Off the beaten path, but houses close by cabin.

  • 3 of 5

Loved off beaten path. Beautiful river drive on way to Asheville. No fish in stream behind cabin. Needs upgrade in some maintenance and beds.

Owner's Response: Well, successful fishing usually depends on your skills and patience =) Shelton Laurel River is hatchery supported and stocked with trout. Some guests catch more than others. You can also try to find out what tricks locals use to catch fish. If you're nice to them they'll be happy to share. By maintenance I believe the guest means Directv had some channels that didn't work. We called for service immediately but couldn't get a service person to come out until few days later. Apparently the antenna needed adjusting, might have been hit by our lawn service. All good now. Not sure what's wrong with the beds, they're Simmons Beautyrest king size pillow top mattresses that our guests love! There is a house across the river and diagonally off to the side. Its 500 feet away from the cabin and the lady that lives in it is an 80 year old retired school teacher. We have mature 20 foot high Leland cypress trees that we planted as soon as the cabin was built. They provide great privacy, and some of the recent reviews say just that!

Perfectly Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

The little cabin in the woods was exactly as described! We loved sitting on the front porch listening to the water and feeling nestled away in the mountains. The owner responded immediately to any questions I had before the stay and during! Loved it!

Great time!!

  • 5 of 5

This is an awesome cabin! If you want privacy, room to play, light camp fires and be very comfy in a very nicely set up cabin, then this is the choice. We stayed at this cabin before so we knew what to expect. Our first stay was based on a recommendation of a relative who stayed with them more than once also. We love the Asheville area and like to stay in the mountains within a reasonable ride from downtown when visiting. Downtown Hot Springs was really convenient too. We went to dinner there after visiting the Spa. All in all highly recommended.

Remote, but not secluded

  • 3 of 5

The cabin was very nice. But, we were a little disappointed that it was not secluded at all. It shares a driveway with a church and has a house in the back yard. Renter was very helpful and responsive to any questions we had though.

Owner's Response: The "not secluded" part is incorrect. Our closest neighbor is 500 feet away, on the other side of the river and way off to the side. An 82 year retired school teacher lives in it. Not only is it far but we have a 20 foot high row of Leland cypress trees for privacy. The little country church is up on Middle Laurel Church Road, 400 feet before you get to our driveway, and when you turn left into the driveway its another 400 feet to the cabin. We consistently provide top service to our guests and we're always responsive and helpful with all your questions and needs during your stay. Our cabin is located on 8 acres of pristine pasture by Shelton Laurel River which the state stocks with trout! There are pretty views of surrounding mountains and it's a truly amazing mountain getaway with plenty of room to move around and play. Our guests can have camp fires by the river, which other cabins almost never allow, we have a fire ring just for that. We are very close to downtown Hot Springs and the Hot Springs Resort & Spa! White water rafting, skiing, zip lines, gem mining, horseback riding, hot air ballooning and many other outdoor activities are just minutes from the cabin! We look forward to having you as our guests! Please feel free to contact us anytime with any questions.

Nice relaxing family getaway

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this cabin with my wife and kids few months ago in the springs and it was just what we needed. No WIFI yet, but full DirecTV sattelite cable and there's also a land line phone with apparently unlimited domestic long distance, that was nice. Televisions in all rooms. Everything looked just like in the pictures. We enjoyed the movie collection. We got out and did all our outdoor adventure activities, there's a hiking trail 2 minutes away. Check with the owners about WIFI, they said it'll be getting it installed very soon. We had to bring our own firewood for the camp fire, but we found tons laying around along that nearby trail that we hiked. Everyone pitched in and we brought lots of dry firewood back. Overall a great time, looking to book with them again.
