Wonderful Winter Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for our first Christmas together this year and we loved it. The cabin was what I expected and what is described, its simple but comfortable. Ron was amazingly helpful and was very good at checking in with us to make sure we had everything we needed. If you are looking for a quiet mountain getaway to escape from the city life, I highly recommend the cabins at Paxton Lodge!

Tranquil -- Ample History

  • 4 of 5

I wasn't entirely sure what to anticipate with this vacation home without any photos of the interior. The interior doesn't leave much to the imagination, very small, studio with the usual 'rustic' décor. However, this really wasn't important compared to the pluses attributed to the property.

Upon arriving I was greeted by the property supervisor who had a cabin within walking distance of my cabin. He was immensely helpful and made suggestions of local hiking trails and where to purchase groceries (Quincy!) the property was well heated and clean. I had my own small front yard with a BBQ -- fantastic!

The location itself is right on the river and near the train tracks. I love trains so being able to watch them roll by was great. The grounds also have an extended history which was outlined in a binder in the cabin. However, the description is dead on. If you want something besides isolation make sure you stop before you get to Paxton.

No frills but everything you need. Would stay again!

Quiet getaway in the mountains.

  • 4 of 5

I stayed at the cabin for a week. The property manager Ronnie was very helpful to all my needs. Cabin was very clean and inviting. I had all the privacy I wanted and a very hospitable neighbor that was a full time resident. Beautiful little beach with chairs and shade provided. Will definitely return next year.

Beautiful location and gracious Hosts

  • 5 of 5

Lots of history in this scenic location. The cabin is rustic and quaint, just what I desired. Enjoyed getting to know the owners and their friends. Recommend a swim in the river. Paxton/Quincy area is a mirror of the Swiss Alps. The owners made sure I enjoyed myself and was part of the conversation. Good people.

Great Area and getaway

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in cabin #5. It was as described. A little bit of bugs and not super clean but i wasn't expecting more. I would stay here again. Nice beach area. Caught some fish and the dogs swam. Everyone we met was nice.

Amazingly wonderful hideaway, complete with pet!

  • 5 of 5

We drove into Paxton/Qunicy, following the directions provided by our hosts, as our GPS seemed to be somewhat confused as to the exact location of the cabin/resort. When we pulled into the Paxton Lodge, we were greeted by the onsite manager, Ronnie, his dogs, and the “resort dog,” who quickly became our fireside companion. Sadly, for him, we are vegan, and he only deigned to share our tortilla chips, politely refusing the grilled mini-squash.

The cabin was exquisitely appointed in all of the essentials, including, to our surprise, a Keurig coffee machine. We ended up grilling most of our meals over the wood-burning fire pit at the front of the cabin. The heat in the cabin was provided by a charming electric fireplace.

Ronnie was an invaluable resource as to the local hiking trails, and we were able to hike trails that were not listed by the Plumas Ranger Station. He was able to guide us to photogenic places such as hidden waterfalls along the Spanish Creek. He enthusiastically met our every need, explained the history of the local area, took us on a tour of the not-yet-fully-renovated Paxton Lodge, and offered to take us panning for gold. He was instrumental in making our trip memorable!

We highly recommend this rental, and we hope to be back next year!
