About the property

The Convent is a classic Bahamian coral stone home, constructed in 1834, and restored by interior designer Tom Scheer with recent updates by Margaret Naeve, antique dealer and designer from Houston, Texas. The Convent once served as a home to the nuns teaching at the Catholic school. It's conveniently located in the heart of Dunmore town, one block from the bay, steps from the Rock House and the Landing, and a short walk from Harbor Island's famous three mile pink sands beach.

Accommodations include four bedrooms (three above, and one at ground level), each with an en suite bath. The master bedroom, with king size bed, has a beautiful white-washed peck cypress cathedral ceiling, and access to the spacious wrap-around porch. Two guest rooms are located on either side of the master bedroom. One is fitted with a queen-size bed, and the second with twin beds. Both rooms have views to the garden, and open to the porch. A study alcove with writing desk is located adjacent to the upstairs bedrooms.

The balcony/porch overlooks the garden and pool. Two daybeds make this a perfect place for outdoor lounging.

A fourth bedroom is located on the ground floor, situated off the garden and courtyard. This bedroom has its own private entrance.

The entry to the home leads to open living and dining areas. Ideal for family enjoyment, the living space is furnished with comfortable seating by Janus et Cie, blended with a mixture of French and Swedish antiques.

The kitchen features peck cypress cabinets and stainless steel appliances. Open upper shelves showcase the beautiful old blue and white Cuban tiles.

The outdoor space is as inviting as the interior of this lovely home - accentuated by one of the largest pools on the island. A large covered porch with a dining table and spacious couches is adjacent to the pool and garden.

The convent has air conditioning, television, phone and internet access. The attentive housekeeper can arrange anything needed to make your Harbor Island stay enjoyable.

What makes this house unique

After several vacation trips to Harbor island, I set my heart on finding my own house on the island. By good fortune, the Covent became available, and I fell in love with it at first sight. You will too!

I have recently returned from my first trip to Harbour Island for a relaxing beach vacation. The house was gorgeous and had plenty of space (more than we needed) for two families with 3 young children. The house is located centrally in town with a close walk to the bay side restaurants, stores and resorts. We rented golf carts that were at the house when we arrived and enjoyed cruising around to explore and head down to the beach. The pool was a wonderful addition for us after a long day at the beach, the children loved coming back to jump in the pool. The outside dining space was great for dinners and late nights playing games and enjoying each others company. The homeowner Vivien was an absolute pleasure to work with. She responded to phone calls and emails within minutes and even kept in contact with us as our trip was getting near to discuss the weather, where to rent golf carts & who to call for help if anything was needed while we were there. I would highly recommend this house for its comfort, convenience and amenities.

Classic, clean and stunning

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the house for our wedding on Harbour Island with some of our closest friends. We selected the house because it had the right number of bedrooms, bathrooms and the best layout for our group. The house turned out to be perfect, especially once we located the hidden bathroom upstairs so every room had its own bathroom. The house is well decorated and had plenty of space for relaxing. We got married at the Ocean View Club, so the house was convenient to town (and the Bahamas Coffee Roasters, where we got coffee every morning), the beach and the hotel where the rest of our guests were staying; we had golf carts, but we still could have easily gotten around by walking. We had one issue with the air-conditioning in the guest house, but Vivian made sure that someone was there to fix it as soon as possible. All and all it was exactly what we were looking for!

The property was absolutely everything we needed. I was staying there for my wedding on Harbour Island and found the house to be perfectly central to everything we needed. The quality and comfort of the house was outstanding. The housekeeping and maintenance staff was courteous, punctual and ridiculously friendly. The ownership was very responsive in the few instances where we had questions. I would highly recommend this property and visiting Harbour Island.

You must stay here! It is in the perfect spot and the house could not be more lovely. My friends and I stayed for a wedding on the island and it fit all 8 of us comfortably. When you come in from the water taxis, it's a 2 min walk to the house or to grab your gold car rental. There is an amazing coffee spot down the way called Bahamas coffee roasters and the owner Kirk is great. All the locals know where the convent is so if you are ever lost they will get you back home.

Vivien was so great! She answered my every question promptly and responding quickly to all requests. She made it so easy from the booking through our entire stay. I will say the cleaning daily was a great touch and you will appreciate it.

We are all planning out next trip to the island and there is no doubt I would be thrilled to stay here again. Stop thinking about it and book this spot.

Great house central to everything

  • 5 of 5

Everything at The Convent was great. The house is nicely decorated, air-conditioned and well stocked with towels, beach chairs, etc. The pool was great and the water temperature was perfect. The house is ideally located to shops, the harbor and the beach. You can walk or drive your golf cart everywhere. The owner, Vivien, responds promptly with any inquiries and the cleaning, gardening, pool and maintenance staff were all very helpful. We would absolutely go back.

Doesn't get any better!

The Convent is FABULOUS!!! It is a gorgeous home outfitted with everything you might need. The pool and yard out back really made our vacation! Our children, ages 13 and 10, were entertained all week! The water was warm and the yard lovely. Also, their were numerous porches and patios to enjoy the weather! The house is in a great location... close to restaurants, shopping, town, ... And, you can easily get anywhere on the island with a golf cart. Finally, the managers were superb. They were available to help with all tasks and answer our questions. I can't recommend the Convent enough!
