The Convent is a classic Bahamian coral stone home, constructed in 1834, and restored by interior designer Tom Scheer with recent updates by Margaret Naeve, antique dealer and designer from Houston, Texas. The Convent once served as a home to the nuns teaching at the Catholic school. It's conveniently located in the heart of Dunmore town, one block from the bay, steps from the Rock House and the Landing, and a short walk from Harbor Island's famous three mile pink sands beach.
Accommodations include four bedrooms (three above, and one at ground level), each with an en suite bath. The master bedroom, with king size bed, has a beautiful white-washed peck cypress cathedral ceiling, and access to the spacious wrap-around porch. Two guest rooms are located on either side of the master bedroom. One is fitted with a queen-size bed, and the second with twin beds. Both rooms have views to the garden, and open to the porch. A study alcove with writing desk is located adjacent to the upstairs bedrooms.
The balcony/porch overlooks the garden and pool. Two daybeds make this a perfect place for outdoor lounging.
A fourth bedroom is located on the ground floor, situated off the garden and courtyard. This bedroom has its own private entrance.
The entry to the home leads to open living and dining areas. Ideal for family enjoyment, the living space is furnished with comfortable seating by Janus et Cie, blended with a mixture of French and Swedish antiques.
The kitchen features peck cypress cabinets and stainless steel appliances. Open upper shelves showcase the beautiful old blue and white Cuban tiles.
The outdoor space is as inviting as the interior of this lovely home - accentuated by one of the largest pools on the island. A large covered porch with a dining table and spacious couches is adjacent to the pool and garden.
The convent has air conditioning, television, and internet access. The attentive housekeeper can arrange anything needed to make your Harbor Island stay enjoyable.
