About Rose

I am thrilled to welcome new friends to my home. I have been in the travel/tourism business for years. I lived in Santa Fe, NM; Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona; San Diego and Los Angeles California; Racine, Wisconsin and Pensacola, Florida. I found a home in Oregon and moved here in 1997 discovering all of what I enjoyed in other places I've lived. I am an advocate for Oregon through my work and my hobbies. I enjoy seeing others discover the beauties of Oregon, especially of my friendly neighborhood. Sellwood is a great place to walk and discover the quaint Portland antique shops or to dine Al fresco at the neighborhood food carts and a variety of wonderful restaurants. Since I love to travel. I am always looking for great places to visit and I have traveled to many countries over the years. Another reason I welcome people from near and far.

Rose purchased this house in 2000

Why Rose chose Sellwood District

Left on 01/07/2015 for a stay in December 2014

Warm, cozy, comfortable, quiet, clean, well situated close by Sellwood town center (2 blocks), which has a Midwestern small town feel, and very good restaurants (Italian, Japanese, Thai, American, deli, etc.), as well as a great bike rental, an excellent health (organic etc.) food market, Columbia sportswear outlet (great selection, and super prices, which regularly get reduced even further - call before going for sale days - which occur as often as 2 days per week), and banks (Wells Fargo and Bank of America are about 1 mile away).

Directly next to bike and walking / running routs that connect: into, around, and well beyond the Portland city center (which is about 6 miles away).

Full modern kitchen, with bright skylighted dining nook, living room with gas fired fireplace and a comfortable couch and chairs, as well as warm furry blankets. There are also: a great multi-jet shower, laundry facilities, good parking, a front room dining / work table with chairs - and a very nice and helpful landlord.

I can't say enough about how wonderful it was to stay in Rose's cottage in Sellwood. My only concern is that the whole world will discover this house and I'll have to stand in line to stay there again. I think I would stand in line, though. Yes, I would. If you enjoy a wonderful location; a light-filled, sparkling clean, architecturally interesting and beautifully decorated house with every thoughtful amenity one can imagine; and the perfect host, look no further.

What makes this house unique

Staying in the Sellwood neighborhood, only 5 miles from downtown Portland, will take you back in time to those neighborhoods that are reminiscent of the 50s. Easy walking, biking and transit make having a car less a necessity. With a high walking and biking score, this neighborhood will return you to the simple days of yesteryear. Its history goes back to the late 1800s when finely dressed ladies and gentlemen walked to Sellwood Park in their finest, enjoying the fresh air of the second-growth forest and the scenic Wilamette River, only blocks from this 1910 house.

This was the perfect cozy get away!

I loved the welcome to this cute home! It was such a great, cheerful space with fun shops within walking distance, great parks and some fun local restaurants. The best part though was the ecclectic, comfy decor and the impeccable cleanliness and service!

Lovely vintage home

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I chose this house as part of our 40th anniversary trip to Oregon and Washington. The home was clean and comfortable. Plenty of furniture (some might say too much). Very comfortable bed. Very well equipped kitchen, great coffee makers and it was great to have supplies like spices, oil and other supplies at the ready. However, our reason for not giving the home a 5 star is that the description of the rental did not mention that we might be sharing the home with someone in the "basement suite". After the initial shock and potentially difficult situation, it was not a problem with either of the 2 groups that rented the basement. We had just not wanted to be sharing a house for our 40th anniversary. And as a result did not use the hot tub. If you're okay with sharing a house, it is a lovely place and well within walking distances of groceries, restaurants and bars. Also, it does have that old home aroma.

Owner's Response: These guests were expecting a private home for the price of a cheap rental. It is clear that I have two listings for my home. No mention of the bouquet of flowers I purchased as an anniversary gift. This is not a barebones rental but my personal home which is furnished and equipped with many extras This is the first time someone complained about that. They did not pay attention to instructions such as DO NOT LOCK THE DEAD BOLT at the back door so basement guests can enter without disrupting upstairs guests. Instead the basement guests had to knock on the front door at 12:45 to awake them so the back door could be unlocked and then THEY complained.instead of the basement guests . I ask that any food supplies be replaced if used. Instead my personal refrigerated supplies were opened and partially used causing me to dispose of them . I gave them a 5 star review because I wanted to be kind but in hindsight they are only 3 star guests.

Very clean and friendly, but small and cramped for the price.

  • 3 of 5

If you need a clean place to stay with a friendly host, look no further. This is a fully-equipped one-bedroom cottage with a very nice bathroom and a very nice kitchen. A couple can sleep in the one bedroom, on the saggy, old-but-clean mattress, and someone else can sleep on the very wonky pull-out sofa in the tiny living room. Other than the place being small, and the sleeping surfaces being poor, I have only great things to say. Beautiful back porch with hot tub, beautiful front porch, and again, very friendly owner. Many thanks!

This was a Beautiful, Charming, Clean and well kept home with excellent amenities.

  • 5 of 5

A lovely Portland home in a quiet neighborhood with a great location that's easy to get around the Portland area. The house was very clean and fully furnished with everything you could possibly need. Every little detail was absolutely charming, the grape on the grape vine, the roses absolutely beautiful. I would definitely keep this home #1 place to stay when I visit Portland again.
