The cottage was the guest house was on a beautiful piece of property! The house was in a great location, as we love that part of Reno, and was secluded. It is near the Truckee River and the railroad tracks but the sound of the trains were muffled by the sound of the portable air conditioners running (loud). The hot tub was on the side of the house facing the street, and we would have preferred it to be on the other side of the house for more privacy, so we didn't use it even though we had planned to. Upon entering the house we noticed the floors were quite plain, but we quickly realized that they were heated floors! The kitchen was well-stocked, and had everything we needed. There were several books about Reno in the living room which was a nice touch. The loft bedroom was very large and the king bed was comfortable. The gated front yard had a nice grass area for our two Bichon Frise dogs and a BBQ gas grill. We loved the fact that there was a garage with opener provided so that we could park the car in it and enter the house that way!
We were in town to see the Great Reno Hot Air Balloon Races, so all we had to do was get on McCarran Blvd and drive a few miles. We also liked the proximity to all of the casinos, Idylwild Park for taking the dogs for a walk and Food Truck Fridays, and our favorite coffeehouse, Walden's.
We had a great time celebrating our anniversary weekend!
We are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and your time in Reno.
Perfect Spot for us!
This little private cottage was exactly what we needed for our Labor Day weekend stop over in Reno. Stephanie was extremely accommodating with some of our special needs, as we didn't travel lightly, and our very spoiled cat was traveling with us. Use of the hot tub at any hour was a huge bonus, and the landscaping surrounding the house made for a great deal of privacy despite being located between the main house on the property and a well used and very popular walking/biking/running trail that meanders over and around the Truckee River. My husband kept exclaiming what a great place it was and what a beautiful property the house was located on. The kitchen had everything we needed to make breakfasts and lunches. We ate dinner out each night. We would love to stay here again the next time we have a long stop over in Reno. Thank you, Stephanie and Michael for sharing your Guest House with us!
Had a great time and really enjoyed the grounds and the pool
The cottage was a nice rental property for our vacation. My husband, myself and my mother stayed for 5 nights. I have brothers who live in town who visited during the day and was also able to host a gathering for some out of town guests. The grounds and the pool are beautiful. The cottage is beautiful as well and included a kitchen, garage, gas grill, and washer and dryer which were great. Stephanie was very helpful with anything we needed. There are 3 dogs who roam the property but they are very friendly and we actually grew to like having them around, especially my son who loves dogs. We were there during very hot weather and the loft gets a little warm for sleeping even with the portable air conditioner. But the bed is comfortable and the mornings are nice. The outdoor seating was great and very comfortable. There are stores and restaurants close by. We went to Raleys and a couple of restaurants up the street. The Eclipse Pizza restaurant is very good! We travel to Reno every few years and I would stay here again if it is available.
Gorgeous property and great location, but...
This was a lovely cottage in beautiful condition, but the entire property is for sale and that's always a bit of a red flag. It just indicates that the hosts don't really have the incentive to be welcoming to their guests. We also received no communication from the VRBO site but only to my email, and since it was from someone whose name I didn't recognize, we missed the check in instructions and it was a little embarrassing for us to have to find our way in. We ended up going into the gated community and Stephanie had to come out and guide us back around to the guest house. Stephanie and her husband were friendly enough, even recommending a local garage to get the AC fixed in our car and providing bikes which were really great. But overall, we didn't truly feel all that welcome. It was especially distressing that they knocked on our door ten minutes past the check out time. We were literally on our way out. As a frequent host of our own property, I have never done this to my guests and we felt rushed. Also, 10:30 is not an especially guest friendly check out time, 11 is the industry standard for a reason.
Stephanie also snapped at our daughter about the pool cover, which does not have an auto off feature nor is it intuitive for someone who hasn't had experience with those things. A simple sign or note posted near the switch would have been a great solution. My daughter didn't use the pool again after that. Further, it's very hot there, and there is no proper AC. We were all kept awake every night by the portable AC units which were very loud. Lastly, the pool area is very much shared by the family and that makes the experience a bit odd. We improvised quite a bit to make the space work, but again, given that the owners are selling the property, it was clear that their concern was more for the property than for their guests.
Yes the Estate is for sale and we don’t take bookings further out than 3 months. A personal email is always sent to the given email address 3 days before coming and titled “Cottage VRBO directions and entry” with my name and contact information.
In the email attachment shows a check out time if 10:30. We have never had an issue with a guest before. 10: 30 is also a industry standard in many areas.
Also in the email attachment is an explanation to operate the pool cover, which I also personally explain to our guests. Your daughter was embarrassed, not snapped at.
The AC units work great and are very efficient for the 3 months they are used here in Reno. No louder than a standard AC unit.
As stated in the email, the pool is shared with the family in the main house.
I encourage our guests to print the attachments in the email so they have a good understanding of the directions, pool usage and check out time.
Great location, beautiful grounds, Mountain style cottage.
Dog friendly with fenced yards to play in. Minor distraction is the public trail on the access road in front of the cottage. Lots of bikers, dog walkers and hikers going by.
Gorgeous property, welcoming hosts
The cottage is beautiful and comfortable. I felt like I was in a mountain chalet not all that far from the city. The grounds were lovely and the hosts let us use the facilities for a small BBQ with no qualms. Their dogs interacted well with ours and it was hard for us to walk away from those sweet, fuzzy faces. The private garage, entrance, and little front yard were perfect when we didn't have guests. My only complaint is that the WiFi was a little slow but it shouldn't have mattered because I shouldn't have been working while I was there! We'd go back there in a minute if we have the opportunity to do so.
The rental is located in a gated area with ponds, waterfalls, hot tub and a diving pool.
We have three bikes available to use.
