The house is a 4 bedroom, two bath, turn of the century, farm house with a wraparound porch (half of which is screened in) and a small entry porch. The screened in section is set up for dining and lounging. The unscreened portion of the porch has lounges and chairs . It is a very informal, comfortable house. It is so close to the ocean and bay that it has a nice breeze and no mosquitoes! You can even hear the ocean. The yard is big and perfect for boules, badminton or croquet.
It is very quiet because it is on a dead end street (that ends in the bay). The bay is beautiful, clean and a wonderful place to swim and hang out. I often go down with coffee in the mornings or a cocktail at night.
The house is surrounded by 100 year old uncut boxwood which gives it great privacy. It is one house away from the bay and around the corner from the ocean. The ocean beach in Hampton Bays is unique because, unlike all the other Hamptons, is public land and there is no building allowed on the beach side. As a result, it is a beautiful untouched sand bar with the exception of a small public beach with a building and parking lot. This section has food, bathrooms and lifeguards. The rest of the beach is untouched with 3 small parking lots that fit around 20 cars so it is never crowded on those beaches. On the bay side of the sandbar are a few restaurants and a dock for commercial fishing boats. The fisherman provide fresh fish for the local fish store that attracts people from all over the Hamptons.
The best part is Hampton Bays is only 1 1/2 hours from New York and right between West Hampton and Southampton.
I rented the house for 25 years before buying. I am involved in the arts many artists and dealers have stayed here over the years. Everyone flocks here for dinners at the big oak table in the kitchen or at the table on the screened in porch. It has been the scene of many happy times
Gracie Mansion purchased this house in 2008
After renting for 25 years, I was lucky enough to buy it from the owner. It was a dream come true. This is the place I come to forget all the worries of the city and completely relax. Mornings at the Green Door for omelets or walk to the ocean to have breakfast on the picnic tables overlooking the ocean. I love to spend afternoons on the hammock.
It is on a quiet dead end street. When you get to the top of the street and see the bay, all cares disappear. It is the perfect beach house but a big lawn for games and a big porch for playing scrabble, reading or napping
Great location very short walk to bay beach. Old farmhouse oozes charm and personality with multiple places to socialize or keep personal private space Both screened porch and open air. Owner could not have been more hospitable and accommodating. Water pressure and temp of shower was great. Perfect place to take bikes.
We stayed here for 17 days, this place is like home away from home, but with our own beach and huge yard for dog and kids.
Hampton Bays is a great village only 1 1/2 hours from New York City with the most beautiful ocean beaches in the Hamptons and two large bays. It also has extensive park lands.
