Mix and match your skiing and winter fun and avoid the high price of slope side lodging. Now throw in a sunset lake view and a fireplace for Mom and the less avid skiers. You can be right in the middle of the northern Michigan ski resort area. 30 minutes southeast to Shanty Creek and Schuss Mountain, 45 minutes east to Boyne Mountain, an hour north to Nub Knob and Boyne Highlands, 40 minutes south to Traverse City's Holiday Mountain and only 30 minutes from quaint Charlevoix and Mt McSauba.

Stunning sunsets, sandy beach, surrounded by trees! Enjoy the natural beauty of Lake Michigan. You can walk the beach forever - something you can't do on inland lakes.

The cottage is located on Grand Traverse Bay just 20 minutes south of Charlevoix and a few miles north of Torch Lake (Eastport). It provides a dramatic view from a bluff about 20' above the water. The house views the Leelanau Peninsula across the bay with Lake Michigan to the north and Grand Traverse Bay to the south. A large partially covered deck overlooks the lake. You can enjoy the view and the sunset from the beach, the bluff or even the master bedroom balcony (or from the kayaks out on the bay).

Enjoy a fire during the cool nights in the fireplace or in the fire pit on the overlooking bluff. Just down the “switchback” pathway is your own private beach with plenty of sand to enjoy. The beach has sand and smooth rocks. The bay is shallow which makes it great for young children.

The cottage has been completely painted and refreshed with 1,300'+ square feet of living space. The kitchen has quality white appliances including refrigerator with icemaker, stove/oven, dishwasher, microwave and disposal. Unique concrete countertops with native stones and a deep stainless steel sink give the kitchen a modern look with the feeling of “camp”. The kitchen gives you a lake view even when you are cooking.

The cottage has three private bedrooms plus a large sleeper sofa. There are two bathrooms, one with tub and one with shower. The master bedroom upstairs has a large balcony that overlooks the lake. The second upstairs bedroom has a queen bed and a convertible lounger. It also has TV, games and bean bag chairs to serve as the “game” room. A modern bathroom with a bathtub is located between the upstairs bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king bed and the other bedrooms have queen beds. The sleeper sofa is a “short” queen. The main floor bedroom is smaller and private for sleeping. The main floor bath has a shower and washer/dryer.

High speed internet is provided along with Netflix and streaming movies. Cable TV is available (during the summer and fall only). Tivo systems are provided for the flat panel TVs and there are blu-ray players as well. There’s board games and video games for rainy days or just fun game time.

There are two kayaks and bikes that can be used to enjoy the bay.

To keep you cool there are three ceiling fans and a 1-ton wall air conditioner (no central air conditioning).

There is a small grocery store with a great deli (and delicious summer BBQ) only 5 minutes away.

A wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We (my wife, our 9 year old twins, our 4 year old and me) had a great time at this property. The accommodations were roomy and comfortable with plenty of things -- the kayaks, board games, movies, etc. -- to keep all interested.

The location was great. It was easy to get to Charlevoix or Traverse City, although looking for Petoskey Stones on the property's and surrounding beaches kept us at the house most of the time. The beach at the Antrim Preserve (2.5 miles north on Old Dixie Highway) was another bonus.

The service from Shelley was very good and the house itself was clean and welcoming. We appreciated the s'mores ingredients waiting in the kitchen for us and enjoyed making them at the fire pit on our second night at the house.

All in all, a great trip. I'd recommend it for others, with or without children, and I know my family would gladly return.

Amazing house on the water!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great time this weekend at Bayfront Beach Sunset Cottage! The house was very roomy and had everything that we needed and more! The cottage is centrally located for trips to Petoskey, Charlevoix and Traverse City.

Bob was very quick with supplying all the information and Shelley went over and above with any questions we had!

Great house and beach, enjoyed our stay

  • 5 of 5

The house and beach are great, they are just as shown in the pictures. It was like having a private beach -- in a whole week during September we saw a grand total of maybe five people within sight on the beach. Petoskey stones were easy to find, the kayaks were fun to use, the beach is a great usable beach -- some nice soft sand to enjoy and the lake is fairly shallow quite a ways out from shore. The house was clean and well kept, the fire pit and fireplace well stocked with wood and the kids enjoyed playing the yard games (cornhole and ladder toss). Lots of chairs for sitting on the bluff and down on the beach and a nice deck on the back of the house. The view and location were great. All in all, it was a perfect size and place for our family of five.

Wonderful cottage

  • 5 of 5

The sunset cedar cabin more than exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. There was even a special treat waiting on the table for our young kids. The home was nicely equipped, and I always appreciate when small conveniences are thought of - salt, cooking spray, coffee filters- for the kitchen. The fire pit had split wood stacked and ready to go. There were fun yard games available to us, spare water shoes, and extra beach toys. We had planned to explore the area for the week, but we were so content at the cabin that we only ended up leaving once! The beach was a mix of sand and stones which made a nice balance for building sand castles and searching for Petoskey stones (which we found a dozen or more of). The kayaks were a highlight for me as well. We were even fortunate enough to see a bald eagle circling and roosting! Bob was excellent to work with, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here!

A great family get-away!

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed a wonderful week in this beautiful and well-maintained home in August 2015. It was perfect for our family of 5 (kids aged 15,12 and 10). Gorgeous views and away from the crowds (we saw about 10 people on the beach during our entire stay) with great amenities: 2 sit on top kayaks (life vests included) , beach floats, beach chairs, fully equipped kitchen and grill, lots of sleeping room, gorgeous outdoor fire pit with plenty of firewood, excellent laundry, fast wifi, flat screens and an x-box for rainy days and/or teens going through tech withdrawal. The house sits on a high bluff with an easy switch-back down to the beach. (for families with younger kids, there are beach chairs on the beach as well, so you can keep an eye on the kids and still relax). When we arrived the house was spotless, with a s'mores set up waiting on the counter for our first night's campfire.

As for things to do, the list is endless! In addition to the beach, lots of great day trips only a short drive away. Check out Charlevoix (1/2 hour drive past the "world biggest cherry pan" ) with lots of cute shops and restaurants. Sleeping Bear Dunes is about an hour or so drive away and is a great one day outing. The Jordan river valley (1/2 hour drive) has a state park with gorgeous hiking and the Jordan river (trout fishing and/or a very challenging canoe trip (fast water and lots of obstacles -- not for small children or inexperienced paddlers!).

Also agree with other reviewers, the owner does a great job providing information and is very helpful and welcoming. We've rented a lot of houses over the years and this is one of the best.

We had a wonderful time!

Wonderful break in a great home.

  • 5 of 5

We both enjoyed this stay very much. Relaxing and like "come out of your daily Life". Excactly what we needed. 30 min. fare from a nice ski resort. And the Bob took care of everything…. like delivering of wood for the fireplace…. Thank you very much. We will come back to this place!
