This 200-year old home was renovated in the 1990's, winning a Nova Scotia home award. Three decks, including a private one off the Master suite, overlook stunning gardens and Chester's back harbour. One king bedroom is downstairs and has access to an adjacent bathroom with small shower, perfect for anyone that has trouble with stairs. Upstairs are 3 additional bedrooms - 1 king, 1 queen and one twin (in addition to the Master) and one further bathroom with claw foot tub and separate shower. Both the upstairs and downstairs king beds can be configured as twin beds. The house has two wonderful working fireplaces - in the living room and in the master - and four other decorative ones. Wood is supplied. BBQ, separate laundry with washer and dryer, dishwasher, fridge, stove, microwave, and other small appliances in a fully outfitted kitchen.
The owner is native Nova Scotian, now living in Houston, Texas with her Kiwi husband and their teenage daughter. Growing up in Halifax, her summers were largely spent roaming the south shore of Nova Scotia. Windrose has been bought in anticipation of returning fulltime to NS at some point in the future. In the meantime, they invite you to enjoy the quiet charm of this lovely village
Nicola Hubbard purchased this house in 2012
Chester is one of many charming historic towns along the south shore of Nova Scotia. The village is somewhat unique, however, as it is a compact community removed from the main road. The town itself offers plenty of activities and restaurants and it is central enough to enjoy day outings to areas such as Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, various south shore beaches, as well as the museums, art galleries, medical facilities and nightlife of Halifax. The perfect combination!
When the last owner's renovated the home, they took a lot of trouble to maintain the historic feel, while adding a spectacular 40' long living area toward the back of the house. During the day, the light in this room can be stunning, and at night, the huge fireplace comforts and relaxes. Decks surround the living room and kitchen, and outdoor living on a sunny day is sublime. The master suite has its own private deck and charming fireplace, a perfect retreat.
We spent a wonderful vacation with family in this storybook house in the village of Chester. The setting is magical, with extensive and beautifully landscaped grounds. Two separate decks on the main floor mean having sunny places to have morning coffee or evening drinks while overlooking the calm waters of the back harbour. The house is large enough for everyone in our party to have had plenty of room, but cosy enough to be warm and inviting. It sits at the top of a hill with amazing views, but is just a (literally) two-minute-or-less stroll to the shops in town – especially Nicki's restaurant and the wonderful Kiwi Cafe. The house itself was immaculate and contained everything we needed for a terrific time. Will definitely be back!
