Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom 1 Bath Riverfront Cabin on Cattle Farm, Satellite Internet and TV

This is a small 625 square foot cabin with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath located on the North Fork Holston River in Mendota, VA, just on the north side of Bristol, VA. One bedroom has a bunk bed with a full size bottom bunk and a twin size top bunk. Suitable to sleep three. The other bedroom has a queen sized bed. Suitable to sleep 2. Living room with one couch and chair. Full kitchen with refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, dishware, and cooking utensils. Kitchen table to seat 4. Picnic table on the porch, just outside the kitchen. We now have Directv Television with most of the pay channels, as well as Satellite High Speed Wireless Internet. Currently there is no land line. The only cellular signal that works out here is through Verizon. So if you come, you are coming to RELAX!

There is over a mile of river frontage. You can sit on the front porch and enjoy the sounds of the river, while being secluded on this private farm. Relax and read a book, or break out the swimming gear and rafts or tubes and go for a tube ride from one end of the property to the other.

The property is hidden over a ridge, so when you come up the driveway and crest the hill, you are pleasantly surprised at the phenomenal view. Total privacy since the cabin is just off the river and well off of the road so you will never see a passer-by unless someone passes by in a canoe, raft or kayak.

This is an active cattle farm, so there are cows and care takers on the property. You will probably never see the caretakers, but they are there in a house located at the center of the property. You can not even see their home from your cabin. During the spring, summer and fall, you can enjoy most of the river frontage without being disturbed by the wondering cattle. There are a few areas where the cattle roam free so you will want to drive through those areas. You can drive from one end of the property to the other and have picnics, relax in the river, on the front porch or under a tree. The cattle are fenced off by an electric fence around the cabin to keep them from coming right up to you. They are cattle, not pets, so please do not attempt to pet or feed them. Enjoy their beauty and company from a distance. A majority of the river frontage is free from cattle, so you will be able to enjoy and explore most of the frontage. We will be available for a tour to show you all the areas of the property you can enjoy and explore freely.

The cabin is located in a private location on the property with mountain long range views. The views from all areas of the property are just phenomenal. There is even a 'beach' where you can go and easily lounge around by the river. Have a picnic under the massive trees offering shade. Run around in the hay fields. Or just sit back and listen to the river passing by.

We are located about 45 minutes from the Bristol Motor Speedway and 40 minutes to Abingdon. Downtown Bristol is approximately 35 minutes. The closest mall is about 35 minutes away in Bristol. Bass Pro Shops and Cabelas are about 30 minutes from the cabin. The nearest convenience store is about 15 minutes drive. Walmart and grocery stores are about 30 minutes drive for all your grocery and miscellaneous needs.

This cabin is small and is best suited for 4-5 people to be comfortable. There is a shower (no tub, but the shower head is the removable kind if you need to wash smaller children), sink, vanity in the bathroom. Linens, towels, sheets and blankets are provided. There is a 'micro' sized washer and dryer. The driveway is dirt/gravel off of the main road. I do not recommend sports cars (i.e. Corvette sized vehicles, super low vehicles not recommended) to drive on these roads.

You can feel free to open the windows to enjoy the fresh air, or there is a wall unit air conditioner in the kitchen/living/dining area if it gets too warm. There is a ceiling fan in the queen sized room (not int he bunk bed room). In the winter, there is a gas log fire place in the living room to enjoy and use for heat as well as an electric area heater.

If you have questions, please feel free to call or email.

About Owner/Manager

We currently live in Bristol, VA. This is our cattle farm where we also come to relax and play with our family on the river.

Owner/Manager purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Owner/Manager chose Virginia

We fell in love with this property because of the view as you crest over the ridge from the entrance. It is total privacy and seclusion. Phenomenal views from many areas of the property, all of which are easily accessible. The property had been a cattle farm in the same family for 3 generations when we purchased it. We felt we were purchasing a piece of history as well as a gorgeous place to come and relax and enjoy what this area has to offer while still maintaining it as a working cattle farm. You are out in the mountains for privacy, but not too far from town for when you want to go shopping, out to eat, or need the usual grocery items. The cabin is simple with the necessities for a lovely stay, but we will be adding upgrades as time goes on both inside and out. So, even though you will enjoy your stay, each time you come back, it will get better and better!

What makes this cabin unique

There are rocking chairs and a picnic table on the front porch overlooking the river. Warning: it will put you to sleep! The sound of the river is so relaxing. You can sit in the rocking chairs and just relax and read a book. Open the windows to enjoy the fresh air and hear the sounds of the river from the inside. The best place to visit on the property is the bottom land across the hay fields on the river where we call 'the beach'. There are magnificent shade trees lining the river where you can sit and relax or wade in the river, or bring a blanket to have a picnic.

So peaceful!!!

The river was so nice and it was an added bonus that tubes were provided. We had an issue with a flat tire and the owner was gracious enough to bring us a portable air pump. Very nice weekend!!!

Perfect get away

  • 5 of 5

The cabin and it's surroundings were so wonderful. Enjoyed our meals out on the deck listening to the sounds of the river flowing by and the birds chirping. We toured the area including some of the crooked road venues, Natural Tunnel State Park, Heartwood and just driving around to see all of the beauty of the mountains. We ventured out and went canoeing on the river and we even played cowhands for a couple of days :) Everything we needed was provided and then some. Thanks Teresa for letting us share this beautiful, peaceful spot with you even if it was only for a week. I hope others have the same opportunity we had.

Very quiet and relaxing cabin on the river. The owner was very helpful. Clean, comfortable and well kept and everything worked. It was a good headquarters for fishing the North Fork.

What a great spot that is off the beaten path...

  • 5 of 5

We wish we had more time to enjoy the property than we did but we were there for volunteer work for the Drag Racing Association of Women at the NHRA Thunder Valley race. We did get down to the beach bend on Wednesday afternoon, it was a awesome spot to cool off and enjoy the water. The cabin is great to say the least, right on the water and the perfect size. Glad I own a sport utility and am not bothered by the cows, in fact they were sometimes a source of entertainment when trying to get out of the cottage to the main road. I hope to make it back sometime soon to actually take the time to hang out and enjoy the views. This was our first time to the Bristol area, will not be our last!
