About Mary Coburn
Maura, Shirley and I (Mary) purchased this property together. Shirley was retired and lived here full time. I would visit every other month or so. Each visit Shirley had made a list of 'honey do's' for me to complete. It wasn't a burden but a joy to do for her. Shirley would often sit nearby and watch whatever task I was tackling, with childlike amazement and curiosity. Shirley had varied and eclectic taste in decorating which is evident from her Oriental room divider in the green room (guest room) to Humphrey (her 4 foot tall camel which is standing in the master bedroom), to the 12 foot by 6 foot oil on canvas painting of the Canary Islands which she commissioned in 1994, depicting one of her favorite places she, and her husband Fred, would often visit. I love being at Shirley's Place. Shirley lived ever minute and lived those minutes in color. Come and enjoy 'Shirley's Place' as we have. Enjoy hours of effortless conversation while dining on the patio, swim in the clear blue water of the community pool (I was only able to get her in the pool once!) while being in the presence of color, joy and the love of life.
Mary Coburn purchased this Condo in 2007
Why Mary Coburn chose Alta Mesa Community Association
For the first five years we owned the property, Shirley's 'honey do' lists were so long that I never had the time to travel beyond the 'Home Depot.' But after finishing most of the projects, and not too long before she passed, Shirley and I took drives around this beautiful country. We discovered Tonto National Forest, Canyon Lake, Saguaro Lake; we went to a couple of San Diego Padre spring training games in Peoria and even a couple of Diamondback's games. It was wonderful. Even at her age of 84, she had such wonderment of life which gave me so much pleasure to experience these things with her. She taught me to live in color and to rediscover that childlike wonderment.
What makes this Condo unique
Just beyond the patio on the common green belt area there are several large trees. Song birds populate the trees and put on a concert of song each night at dusk. At different times during the year, you can close your eyes and be transported to the middle of the jungle because of all of the different sounds! I think I love 'Shirley's Place' the most because of all the colors; green and white kitchen cabinets, blue and periwinkle in the master bedroom, green in the guest room and gray and Sedona orange in the guest bedroom. Color is life, and Shirley sure had that. Her niece Tina, an artist, painted a mural on an entry wall in the theme of the Cannery Island painting. The mural complements her painting so well. That mural greets you as you enter the front door and sets the mood of 'vacation' when you first enter her home. Enjoy!

Shirley's Place was found to be exactly as described. It was very clean and well stocked. I was pleased to find the garage large enough for my Honda Van with room to spare. The community was very clean and the neighbors friendly. The pool was only a few steps away from our gated patio. Fry's, Safeway, Albertson's and Basha's were only a few minutes away; as well as Home Depot and many restaurants. Shirley's Place and the patio were just the right size [not too big, not too small] and it made for a very comfortable surrounding. We enjoyed our stay very much and thank Mary for letting us experience Shirley's Place.

Feb/Mar 2018 - Perfect!
This was the second year that we stayed in this beautiful townhouse. Everything is within walking distance, including Kohl's, fry's grocery, and city parks. Many fantastic restaurants are close, as well as several golf courses. All of the neighbors are extremely friendly and easy-going. The townhouse is furnished with everything that you need. Most of the 'staples', are already on there, so all you need is to buy your groceries. The back yard patio is to die for, as it faces lots of green grass, with the pool only a few steps away. This property is a fantastic property that has it all. We would recommend this to anyone.
Thanks for letting us rent this property.

Truly a lovely desert Paradise
After only a few days at "Shirley's Place" we felt right at Home. Everything about this home brings you to your happy place. We spent our time enjoying the patio, riding bikes, swimming in the pool and meeting folks in the neighborhood. After only a week, my husband and myself decided to return next year. Thank you to Mary for bringing "Shirley's Place" to outsiders so we could experience a slice of heaven.
Perfect winter retreat for 2017
As the title suggest, this property meets and beats everything that we expected with rental property. Beautiful neighborhood, with very friendly neighbors, close to everything in the east Mesa area. Groceries are within walking distant, as well as kohls, any many other stores. We brought along our British lab, and she also loved it. Lots of room to run, and lots of other people with dogs. If you like being outside, you will love the patio, with cactus, flowers, and an orange tree. Beginning in March the patio has some sunshine, but no need to worry, as the heated pool is a few short steps from the patio gate. We absolutely loved it his place, as we have already rented it for February and March of 2018. Thanks Mary, and especially Shirley for letting us share this beautiful home, meeting the wonderful neighbors, and being part of this quiet community.

The winter of 2016 at Shirley's Place
Those of you who have used VRBO to find a place to vacation know the routine. You search diligently by looking at scores of pictures, descriptions and prices of all the places that could provide that special trip. Finally you have found it. You complete the reservation protocol, make a file and wait for the day to start the best trip ever. That was pretty much the plan for our 2016 winter trip to Shirley's Place. After a long road trip from the Chicago area, the anticipation was at a crescendo when we turned on Mclellan Road to Alta Mesa. We recognized the exterior of the villas from the pictures we had studied several months before. It was a neat and tidy neighborhood... just like those pictures had hinted it would be. Upon entering Shirley's Place, we were sure this was indeed going to be the trip we had hoped for. The kitchen was more than clean, it glimmered. The dining area and the family room contained all of the intricate things that make Shirley's Place unique including the wall mural above the couch and the Spanish style wood burning fireplace. The master bedroom had all the room we needed including more than adequate closet space. The second bedroom was perfect for our spring breakers. The whole place was clean plus. I saved the best for last. The patio in back was indeed a slice of paradise. It has an orange tree with oranges the size of grapefruits. It has both cacti and a palm tree capped off with shade that makes it comfortable even in those AZ 90 degree afternoons. It is a perfect place to read your book or even nod off for a few minutes. All of this in full view of the community pool which is so close it appears to be your private pool. Everything is close... you can even walk to the Fry's grocery store. We absolutely enjoyed our stay at Shirley's Place and will hopefully be able to stay here again.
Wonderful eclectic decor
This truly felt like home away from home. We were made to feel welcome from the very beginning by Mary, the owner. When we arrived we were totally blown away by the thoughtful gifts she had awaiting us.
Mary provided us with lists of nearby restaurants, grocery stores etc. A binder full of "things to do" assured us that we would not be bored. Enjoyed hiking and biking on the brand new bikes, complete with helmets and water bottles.
The home was spotless and stocked with everything one could possibly need.
We enjoyed the beautifully shaded patio, the close proximity of the pool, the comfortable bed, the fruit brought over by friendly neighbors, I could go on and on.
Thank you Mary for making our first visit to Arizona definitely not our last.
I would, and have, recommended this property to others,
