About Mr. Gene & Jean Ohlmann.
I grew up in Louisville, went to St.Denis,Valley,High School,University of Louisville for a short time after I got out of the United States Marine Corp. Bought a lot on Rough River in 1990,lived in camper and small cabin for a couple of years till I met Jean Marie. Jean loved the lake and after we married , we talked of moving to the lake. When JEAN retired a little while later we made the final decision and in 1999 we moved to the lake.
Mr. Gene & Jean Ohlmann. purchased this Chalet in 1990
Why Mr. Gene & Jean Ohlmann. chose Hudson
Jean and I were married on this property in 1996 on the gazebo I built over looking the lake. I bought this lot our home sits on in 1990 as a place to get away. I met Jean in 1992 at age 57 and we took a drive to the country.Jean loves the country as much as I and I have always had a dream of sharing our property with others. It has been a long time in coming, but GOD is always faithful and for 20 years I have wanted to build a cabin or small house to share with others. In about 2004 Jean and I were blessed to buy the lot next to ours and my dreams and blessings began to take shape. The lot next to our house had a burned out cabin on it and the yard was a boulder field, I mean the size of a refrigerator and up along with an old septic system and too many trees to talk about. After some two and one half years of working with the corp of Engineers my first plan took shape, Cut a road to the lake, but how, three or four people and a couple road people told me it could not be done. Well GOD had a plan and I had a couple of wonderful friends, Larry Mattingly and August Henning who I am so blessed to know. With Larry doing the brain work and August and his son doing the digging, out came the trees, up came the huge rocks and as I watched with tears in my eyes in two days I had a road to the lake. NOW THE REST OF THE STORY! In 2013 I was able to start my dream of 20 years, a guest house to rent and share with our friends.
What makes this Chalet unique
There are several Unique features to our property that I believe are not available any where else on the lake. We can accommodate a couple looking for a quiet romantic get a way, or a large family get together. The Chalet will sleep 6 adults, plus 2 children in the loft. We have 2 campers, each will sleep 2 to 4. Tent area and 20 to 50 amp hook up. The road we have that goes all the way to the edge of the water is a real blessing. NO STEPS to climb, rocks, or trees in your way. The slope is gentle enough for elderly folks,(like us)to walk. The road is from about 8 ft. to 12 ft. wide and we take our golf cart to the turn around at the water's edge. NO OFF ROAD VEHICLES OF ANY TYPE ARE ALLOWED TO BE USED OVER THE HILL. IF YOU BRING A OFF ROAD VEHICLE, IT MUST BE USED ONLY ON PAVED ROADWAYS. PLEASE COMPLY TO HELP US MAINTAIN A GOOD STANDING WITH THE CORP OF ENGINEERS. THANKS GENE AND Jean. Jean and I realize that a lot of people, especially large families can't afford to rent our chalet for a vacation of a few days or more. Our chalet is in a very unique setting, away from the road, and facing the lake, and very private, with its own deck facing the water. The chalet also has a second deck for dining outside. We took great pains to not compromise the privacy of our chalet when we put in a couple of camping trailers and a tent area to accommodate families that could not afford to rent the chalet. Be sure to check our photo section to view the covered picnic pavilion with sink and hot and cold water to help our campers and those in tents to enjoy their stay. There is also a laundry room with FREE washer and dryer for all our guest. [Please bring your own soap powder] The laundry room also has a shower room for our campers. Jean and I are family people, and we try to do our best to make your stay with us a relaxing, exciting and memorable occasion. Please feel free to call us. 270 257 0584

Very accommodating! Loved it!
Incredible View, Great Owner
We booked 2 places for the weekend, and they ended up being a little farther apart than we would have liked, so we didn't spend a ton of time at this location. We did get to spend time on the patio (which has enough space for a whole big group of people) and the view is outrageously beautiful and the owner Gene was a great great man to deal with. He has built this place with his bare hands and it is just so picturesque and exactly what you are looking for when you head to the lake. Will definitely be back with friends. Thanks for everything, Gene!
This weekend was absolutely amazing! Gene and Jean were so friendly and so helpful. My family can't wait to return! We were truly blessed and humbled to be around such loving and inviting people. Thanks for an awesome and memorable family weekend.
Jewell and Tina Radford
Hi Jewell and Tina, Been busy here, have not forgotten you. Thanks again for a wonderful weekend. I am working on a couple of dates. Gene.
Great cabin! Great host!
The cabin was just as described. Kids enjoyed kayaking and canoeing. Gene was very welcoming and helpful. We hope to go back.
Great rental experience!
The location is beautiful and the rental property is lovely. A group of 8 of us stayed for 2 nights and had a great time. Gene ensured that we were taken care of at all points during our visit and was a great host. This is a great getaway for anyone!
My husband and I stayed in the cabin while some friends of ours rented the camper space. The cabin was wonderful and had everything you could need! The property was beautiful, provided a lot of privacy, and the patio was a great place to hang out with friends (especially during the rain). We rented the kayaks and canoes for the weekend and several in our group took them out on the river and had a fun time. I cannot say enough about the owners Gene & Jean. They are some of the best people I have had the pleasure of meeting. They were so accommodating and kind! Thank you Gene & Jene for all your hospitality!! We very much appreciate you sharing your beautiful place with us and we look forward to staying with you again!
Jessica & Nathan
Thanks Jessica and Nathan for coming to stay with Jean and I at Serenity Gardens. "WE MISS YOU". We have lots of fun watching our guest enjoy themselves on the grounds rain or shine. The kayaks and canoes are a nice touch to our setting here on the water, the river is quiet and easy to navigate. I remember your group taking the kayaks to the main lake for the day. We are so blessed to have a large covered, lighted pavilion for rainy days. The covered area is 18 by 42ft. Say hello to your friends and God Bless all of you. Maybe, just maybe, one day you may come our way again. Love to all, Gene and Jean.
