Overview

About the property

Sunlit Townhouse--Great for Wedding Guests, Family Getaways, Corporate Retreats

This gorgeous townhouse--just 1 block from downtown Hudson--has served as a home base for many a nearby wedding (Basilica, The Hill, The Falls, Helsinki, Letterbox, Pocketbook Factory), summer festival, restaurant expedition, family reunion, antiquing (Warren St is 1 block away), and fall leaf peeping.

The house has real historic value (built in 1740), but all spaces are newly renovated, freshly painted, delightfully decorated, and clean clean clean!!!

3 bed/3 full baths have cozy bright furnishings and sun-drenched nooks. Shop, hike, antique, host brunch, or just read in front of the fireplace.

* 5 min walk to Amtrak

* 2 min walk to Warren Street

* 5 min drive to hiking trails

* 10-30 min drive to Catskill, Athens, Woodstock, Red Hook, Germantown, Saugerties, Rhinebeck, the Berkshires.

On the first floor: original heart pine flooring. To the left: the fireplace room with cozy seating. Through the doorway are the kitchen, first full bath, and dining and living rooms: each bright and clean. We've got a 50' TV and incredibly comfy sofa, a rustic dining table surrounded by Ligne Roset chairs, shiny new appliances.

Upstairs, the master bedroom faces the quiet backyard. Sink into the firm handmade mattress (we've added a comfy topper), and either shut away the sunlight (curtains are made of blackout velvet), or awaken to morning light. There's a great walk-in closet leading to the master bath, with its curved rod, handheld rain shower, and bathtub. Lay out your things on the provided luggage rack.

The middle bedroom is very special, with a bird theme and a small patio all its own. The queen bed is brand new and very good for your back. Closets are great for keeping the wrinkles out of your dresses and suits, and we provide a luggage rack for your suitcases.

Down the hall is a room fit for kids or adults. Two single adults can comfortably sleep on these ultra-firm handmade XL twin mattresses.

A third full bath sits in between two bedrooms: clean and bright, with new towels and amenities provided.

Please note that this is the owner's second home, and there are a few sparse owner's items that won't impede your space or enjoyment of the home. Additionally, a cat stays on the premises about once every six months--BUT the house is cleaned thoroughly every week.

We’re a four-block walk from the Amtrak station at Hudson (two hours from Penn Station, NYC). Street parking is free, with alternate side of the street parking spots easy to find.

About Jean Tang

Seasoned host excited to welcome you to my new townhouse: a 1740 beauty that's been vibrantly decorated. I'll meet and greet you if possible. I'm also available by phone, and will get back to emails within a few minutes (unless overnight). We're the house that people run away to when the other house they booked doesn't work out!

Why Jean Tang chose Hudson

I love how easy it is for transportation (Amtrak four blocks, free st parking)--and how close it is to downtown Hudson. And I love the town of Hudson, a home to artists and tastemakers far and wide. The town's hipness is, I believe, a few cuts above any other place that could be called Brooklyn on the Hudson.

What makes this house unique

Hudson is marvelous!! Just a taste:

--Shopping is incredible in Hudson, esp if you're into vintage, antiques, and furniture.

--(2 min walk) Wm. Farmer and Sons serves a great dinner and cocktails. Not open on Sundays.

--(2 min walk) Verdigris Tea & Chocolate Bar has a great selection of gourmet chocolates and cookies. In cold weather, the hot chocolate is thick and superb.

--(3 min walk) Check out La Perche for pies and bistro food in the garden.

--(5 min walk) Fish & Game is a multi-course extravaganza meal by celebrity chef Zak Palaccio.

--(8 min walk) Great happy hour at Mexican Radio, at the top of Warren. Top-shelf margaritas are wonderful.

--(8 min walk) Le Gamin is a terrific French bistro: authentic Nicoise salads.

--(10 min walk) Lick ice cream (top of Warren St--open from Memorial Day to Halloween) is creamy and delicious.

--(10 min walk) For brunch, I'd suggest Helsinki or Swoon Kitchenbar! Both delicious. At night, Helsinki has ticketed entertainment--and the food (fresh fish, BBQ, salads) rocks.

--(10 min walk) Grazin' is a grass-fed diner.

--(12 min walk) Lil Deb's Oasis was named by Vogue and Bon Appetit as one of the best restaurants in the nation. Must go: the restaurant is literally an art piece, and the food is superb.

--(5 min drive) Take kids to the Fireman's Firefighting Museum, 117 Harry Howard Avenue. Remarkable--and expansive!

--(8 min drive) Greenport Conservation Area is closer and has great hikes.

--(10 min drive) Olana State Historic Site, former home of a major Hudson River School painter

--(10 min drive) the Village of Catskill, NY for a craft emporium (by the co-founder of Etsy), old-fashioned movie theater, etc.

--(30 min drive) Saugerties, Rhinebeck, Red Hook, Germantown, High Falls, or Woodstock

Great Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This home was beautiful, and just what we needed for a weekend getaway with friends! The house had everything necessary to relax and make meals, and was very central to the downtown area- we were able to walk almost everywhere we wanted to go! Our only issue was the heat, and after asking Jean about it, she had AC units installed within the hour. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely getaway

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely historic row house in a quaint town, convenient to shops, restaurants and sites. My family was very comfortable during our stay. Kids appreciated Netflix! And Jean could not have been more kind or accessible, really a terrific host. Definitely recommend.

Unbelievable location!

  • 4 of 5

Spacious and convenient. Perfect location right in the thick of things near the train, the main drag, shops, and tons of restaurants. Owner is extremely open, responsive and available. Funky, modern and bright. Plenty of room. The six full baths were a huge plus.

Spacious home in a great location

  • 4 of 5

We rented this house for the weekend while in town for my sister's wedding. The home was spacious and well located. The owners were easy to communicate with. There are three full bathrooms which was nice for my family of four.

Upsides--walk to the river. Walk to all the great restaurants and shops in town. Plenty of room to spread out.

Drawbacks--the beds were not very comfortable and the experience of the house would be greatly improved with an upgrade to the towels and linens. There was a lot of personal stuff in the bathrooms and closets which was a little odd (used toothpaste, soap, etc. in the bathrooms). But maybe that's because the other places I have rented have been more pristine upon check in.

I can't comment on the kitchen, as we didn't cook at all. And there is a backyard but no furniture in it. We weren't there to use it anyway but if you think you will want to hang out in the yard bring some lawn chairs with you.

All in all, this was perfect for a weekend but might not have worked for much longer for my family. Also, not the paintings in the kids' room are really creepy, at least they were for my kids. So just be forewarned if you have young kids who aren't used to Keane's artwork!

Owner's Response: Hi Kierra! Oh no! I'm sorry that the Keane paintings were not ideal for your kids. I'm glad you otherwise had a nice time. Thanks for the suggestion on linens--I'll look into that. There shouldn't be used soap sitting around, but it is a home and I use it about 3-4x a year.

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Great location! Attended a wedding with my family and I chose this place because it had 3 full bathrooms!!!! We cooked breakfast in and enjoyed the area restaurants for lunch - all within walking distance. The owner is great to work with and allowed us to check in early with my 88 year old mom which allowed her to take her time getting ready for rehearsal dinner. Owner also seems to want to improve her place by continuing to update with. Ew pull out couches - which will be a real asset because my son was able to stay downstairs on couch and have his own bathroom to get ready. It really was a Great place to stay!!!!

This area is like a sophisticated, cultural Hamptons. You've got intelligent ruralism: a great farmer's market, eco-consciousness, smart design sensibilities. You've got a real sense of history: the area was settled in the mid-18th century. You've got nature: hiking, cycling, and boating as far as the eye can see (and we can recommend great spots for all). And then there's the urban splendor of Warren Street: world-class antiquing, vintage stores, new designers, and food so amazing that I'd pick Hudson over NYC in any restaurant showdown. The people are INCREDIBLY sweet: educated, generous, thoughtful. It's built to be an ideal weekend getaway for New Yorkers, Bostonians, New Englanders, and those from further afield!
