Overview

About the property

This lovely, three bedroom, two bath home is a wonderful choice for your Adirondack vacation. The furnishings are mostly new and the house is well-maintained and modern. The house is really nice inside and much larger than it looks from the outside!

The home has beach and dock rights on Upper Saranac Lake (a short walk from the house), one of the finest lakes in the region. A canoe and kayak are provided. Saranac Inn boasts an 18-hole golf course (500' from our front door!), and many trails and waterways to explore beyond Upper Saranac Lake. A few restaurants, including the Lodge at Lake Clear, are only a few minutes away. Also, Saranac Inn is centrally located 15 to 30 minutes from many popular Adirondack tourist destinations in Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, Long Lake, and Paul Smiths. These towns feature fine gift and antique shops, numerous dining choices (too many to even mention), and fun attractions -- including the Olympic venues in Lake Placid, the Wild Center (Natural History Museum) in Tupper Lake, charming Main Street in Saranac Lake, the Adirondack Museum in Long Lake, and the Adirondack Visitor's Center in Paul Smiths. Unique old-time movie theatres are available in both Tupper Lake and Lake Placid.

This vacation rental home is attractively furnished and can comfortably accommodate 8 to 10 people. Most furnishings are new and everything is modern and clean. Sleeping accommodations include a king size bed in the downstairs bedroom, two queen size beds in a large bedroom on the second floor, and two full beds in another bedroom on the second floor. There is a large, modern, clean bathroom on each floor. The kitchen is large, inviting and a chef's delight because it fully stocked with new or like-new appliances (including dishwasher), high quality cooking gear (pots, pans, dishes, etc.) and many extras that you usually don't find in rental properties such as blender, food chopper, several good cookbooks, and much more! A large deck extends across the front of the house with picnic table and chairs, a gas grill and a nice amount of yard space and privacy.

Other amenities include full size washer and dryer in separate laundry/mud room, two televisions, VCR/DVD, cable TV, excellent movie library, board games and puzzles, outdoor fire pit (wood is not provided), upstairs home office (small separate room) with a desk/chair and with wireless high speed internet access (no printer provided), telephone, fans, toys for the kids, gas fireplace, and for winter guests we even provide snowshoes and sleds. If you have small children - we have all the gear, so you don't need to haul yours from home ! We have a full-size crib, porta-crib, high chair, booster seat, stroller, children's dishes, etc. We also provide files full of tourist information and brochures, and an Adirondack library, including coffee-table books about the Adirondacks and a number of local guide books so that you can find the perfect hike, paddle or ski tour.

All linens (sheets, towels, blankets, dishtowels) are provided except for beach towels.

SUMMER AND AUTUMN:

It is an easy, five-minute walk from our front door to our dock, our canoe, our kayak, and our association beach on pristine Upper Saranac Lake. The water at the association beach is shallow at the start, with a sandy bottom, making it ideal for younger children. It then becomes deeper, and a water trampoline is provided for older children and fun-seeking adults. We have many beach toys available for your use, and a beach buggy to use to transport your gear to the beach. Adults and children 7 and older (who are proficient swimmers and agree to wear life vests) will enjoy using our canoe and beginners-type open kayak, both of which are stored on racks right at the lake at our association dock area. If you plan to bring a motor boat, our dock space will accommodate a 16' to 18' motor boat. ( If your boat is too large to use our dock, you can still use the public boat launch next door, but will have to put in and take out with each use.) Please note that you cannot see the lake, dock or beach from our house -- it is a short walk. Upper Saranac Lake truly is one of the finest lakes in the Adirondack Park, about ix miles long with 37 miles of shoreline. Golfers will love having the Saranac Inn Golf Club within easy walking distance -- just 500 feet from our front door! Hikers and paddlers will enjoy the close proximity to many of the Adirondack's finest trails, lakes and ponds.

WINTER AND SPRING:

This is a peaceful and affordable winter rental for those looking to get away and enjoy the peace and solitude of an Adirondack winter. You can cross-country ski on many nearby trails. You will find a book listing these at the house. This is also the heart of northern Adirondack snowmobile territory. We have direct access to the snowmobile trail system (no trailer required). Downhill skiing is available at Whiteface near Lake Placid or Titus Mountain near Malone. Both are about a 45 minute drive from the property. Special winter amenities include snowshoes and sleds!

Beautiful setting... Much nicer than the photos

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The home is very comfortable, cozy and clean. It is nicely located within a short drive to Lake Placid and the High Peaks. We were a small group of four, but hope to come back next summer with more family. Thank you to Kathy for accommodating us on short notice.

Great Autumn Getaway

  • 4 of 5

Pros: The cottage was in a great location for Autumn leaf-peeping. It's in a quiet setting that is a reasonable drive from local attractions. The owner generously allows use of their canoe & kayak on the lake, which is a short walk away from the cottage. The house is clean and fully equipped/stocked.

Cons: The checkout procedures are a bit stringent...wash/dry/put back all linens, clean dishes, vacuum, dust, take trash to the landfill, etc. Normally, I expect to leave clean linens and dishes at a rental house. The additional requirements to vacuum, dust, and drop the trash at the landfill made it difficult to get everything done (along with packing our own things) in time for the 10 AM checkout.

Something for everyone

  • 5 of 5

Lots of room, very clean and neat. Something for everyone: large front porch for reading or eating, short walk to the lake for swimming, boating, etc, and tv if you just want to hang out on the couch. Very nice home!

Camp Algonquin

  • 4 of 5

The house had everything we needed. Nicely decorated in the Adirondack theme. We enjoyed a campfire every night. Adults and grandkids alike enjoyed the lake and canoe every day. We love this area of our country and plan to return.

Perfect cottage for a family or a friends' reunion

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is exactly as described: comfortable, roomy, and generously-stocked with amenities like plush bath towels and ample cookware. Kathy was extremely helpful and made things easy for our group throughout the booking process, including when we decided to rent for an additional night, close to our arrival date. We appreciated that she was always available to answer our questions, and that she took the trouble to email with various members of our group. Our group consisted of 5 people, all but two unrelated. The cottage had plenty of room for the five of us, who in the 3 bedrooms. Everyone felt he or she had both enough privacy and enough opportunities to get together in the dining room/kitchen/living room. Our only complaint: because we were attending a conference at Paul Smiths College (itself an easy drive away), we didn't have enough time to go out canoeing or kayaking on the lake. Next time! We would each definitely stay here again, and will recommend this property to friends and colleagues.
