This 1870 sq. ft., 5 bedroom / 2 bath cabin sleeps 13 comfortably in beds and is only 22 miles from the west entrance of Yellowstone Park. (The wonderfully scenic drive to Yellowstone takes less than 20 minutes.) It’s also only a half mile from ATV and snowmobile rentals and an access point to the famous Island Park trail system. You can ride either ATVs or snowmobiles, depending on the season, directly from our cabin onto the hundreds of miles of intersecting trails traversing this pristine natural wonderland that includes Island Park, ID and West Yellowstone, MT. The entire family will enjoy this location. Within less than 1/4 mile of the cabin you’ll have access (for a fee) to 2 tennis courts plus the beautiful 9-hole golf course of the Island Park Village Resort. A driving range, putting green and basketball courts are also available. Our property backs up to the fairway of hole #2 of the golf course. Deer, squirrels and rabbits can sometimes be seen enjoying the golf course too. Our large pine trees provide a barrier, so you do have privacy from golfers when enjoying the back yard and deck. A few restaurants and a grocery store are located only 1/2 mile away. Within a 5 mile radius you can enjoy fishing or boating on Henry’s Lake or the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River. Rafts, kayaks, canoes and bicycles can also be rented 1/2 mile from the cabin.

You’ll enjoy our redwood deck with comfortable seating and a gas BBQ grill; or stretch out on our hammock in the yard below. Gather the family around our outdoor fire pit at night as you roast marshmallows and plan your next adventure.

Inside, our upstairs living room has a rustic exposed-beam vaulted ceiling and a cozy wood-burning fireplace with stone hearth. (Firewood provided.) Relax and enjoy the comfort of the leather couches as you watch Blu-Ray discs/DVDs from our collection, Numerous Dish Network Satellite TV channels, or free streaming internet video (Netflix, etc.) on the 48” flat screen TV. There is also a Smart TV and DVD player in the larger downstairs bedroom. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you’ll need for cooking and dining, including spices and cooking oil. The comfortable master bedroom has a queen size bed and adjoining bathroom. Two other bedrooms upstairs have queen beds also. Downstairs are two more bedrooms. One with a queen size bed and a queen size sleeper couch; the other with a full size bed with a roll-out twin size trundle bed hidden beneath. Enjoy the convenience of our own laundry room, with detergent and dryer sheets provided.

If you’re looking for a comfortable, well-supplied and very affordable family-friendly home base for exploring Yellowstone and enjoying the great outdoors in Island Park, you’ll love our Gateway to Yellowstone! There are lots of other day trip opportunities to choose from, including Teton National Park, Mesa Falls, Harriman State Park, the Red Rocks Lakes nature preserve (a bird watcher's dream), and more. Enjoy horseback riding, whitewater or scenic rafting, boating, fishing and hiking. We’ll share our favorite spots for soaking in a natural hot spring or swimming in scenic natural splendor.

About Magdalena Beall

This photo shows the managers of Gateway to Yellowstone.

Magdalena Beall purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Magdalena Beall chose Idaho

The owner grew up in Idaho Falls and vacationed in Island Park regularly. She loves the outdoors and adventuring with the children. She wanted to move the family somewhere rural and that is why she decided to move here. She is happy to share this property with you and cleans it herself to maintain a standard of excellence!

What makes this cabin unique

This home has vaulted wood ceilings in the living room and mountain views. It is located on the golf course in the heart of the Island Park Village Resort. You'll enjoy the back deck where the pine trees offer some privacy from the golf course. You'll love the coziness of the awesome wood-burning fireplace in the living room on winter nights. The house is very comfortable throughout. Each room has its own independent electric heating, so everyone can be comfortable, no matter how they like the heat set. The thing that many of our renters like the best is the nearness to snowmobile and ATV rentals (only 1/2 mile away). You can ride right from the equipment rental business onto the extensive groomed trail system. Or, bring your own machines and park the trailer in our driveway. If you have too many trailers there is additional trailer parking nearby, right in our neighborhood.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed it very much.

Very nice large house. Plenty of room for our group. Only negative was house was hot (no AC) and we were not able to take advantage of the cool breezes because window screens need repairs. Also the cleaning crew could clean the blinds. House was nice and we enjoyed our stay.

Island park is a very beautiful place to stay and we enjoyed the beauty of it all. However as far as our stay at this house was ok, don't get me wrong it was clean, BUT when we first arrived, and got lost trying to find the house, the number that we were given, to call if had any problems, well the lady never answered or did she even bother to call back to see if we found the house ok so we drove around for over 20 minutes to find the house, should put in the direction on the side of the golf course pass the club house and tennis courts,,once we found the house the lawn had not been mowed in quite some time, kinda looks abandoned from the out side witch makes you think what does the inside look like, yes like I said it was clean and all, some of the screens are missing off the windows so if you don't want bugs in the house I suggested not opening them windows, really could use wash clothes and some dish clothes as well, the screen door on the deck was broken and has apparently been that way for some time. Also one of the steps that lead to downstairs was very wobbly. And bring your own entertainment because NOTHING WORKS, nope not even Netflix, bring DVD's if you have kids. Like I said internet is very very poor. Not the owners fault on that one just in a crapy service area stuck between a whole lot of mountains. We also thought we had accessibility to the the tennis courts, well you do if you want to pay $15 a hour to play and also thought there was swimming near by, well there hasn't been a pool on site for over two years, kinda disappointed on that one :( The grocery store up in front that you pass when you come in , is ok, plan on not getting much there , much better one in town on the way to Yellowstone. Also we felt we had to do alot of our own cleaning, like wash all the bed sheets and towels before leaving the house, what does the housekeeper do? I get taking care of the dishes and taking care of our own trash we used that morning before leaving but why wash everything?, it's supposed to be a vacation away from home and all the coures you do at your own house not something you do at a vacation spot. We felt like we should of gotten the cleaning fee for doing most the work.

But overall the beds were beds and and a place to come back to, to cook your own meals after a long beautiful day in Yellowstone witch was absolutely beautiful!

Thanks

The Brandt's from Michigan.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and compliments on the cleanliness of this home. I clean it myself, with attention to detail. IMPROVEMENTS SINCE THIS REVIEW WAS WRITTEN: Outside the appearance has been upgraded, with a new front door, new exterior light fixtures, and flower pots in front and back. Inside, I've made some furniture upgrades and bought new pillows. All window screens now fit properly and stay in place, and the screen door to the deck slides and seals correctly. I have added a subscription to Dish Network satellite TV with a large variety of channels. You can also stream Netflix successfully at times, but not always. (Based on local demand.) The Wi-Fi is the fastest available in this area. (If it isn't as fast as you're used to, remember you've come to a rural mountain community with a less developed utility infrastructure.) I now have 2 flat screen TVs (one upstairs and one downstairs) and each has a DVD player. I have a selection of 30+ DVD's at the home to choose from. Plus there are also playing cards, and a handful of board games. Yes, there are tennis courts available close to the home for a fee. Rackets and balls are available (in the coat closet) for your use, free of charge. You can also pay to play golf (9-hole course right here) or to use the driving range, putting green, or basketball courts. I do not advertise that this home has access to a pool. (You may have seen a reference to a pool in an old review. There WAS a pool, years ago.) There is also a hammock in the backyard, and a fire pit. As far as the cleaning goes, yes I do ask the guests (optional) to help me, if they are willing, by starting a load in the washer prior to departure. (We have 5 hours in-between guests to get the whole house in tip top shape. The laundry for 13 guests can be upwards of 4-5 loads.) Regarding finding this home, my booking service always emails to every renter a map and precise driving directions to the home. So I recommend that people rely on those and don't just bring the address; then it's actually quite easy to find. (GPS info can be faulty in rural areas.) Regarding reaching me for questions: There is good cell phone service at this home, but I move around Island Park for my work and some areas have poor or non-existent cell coverage due to the mountains, so I may be out of range at times. As instructed in emails, if there is ever a time when you have difficulty reaching me, please call my booking service (very responsive).

Sleeps 6 adults and 6 children comfortably

The cabin is centrally located to take advantage of golfing, fishing, hiking, Yellowstone Park and West Yellowstone. The kitchen has the essentials: range, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, coffeemaker and is well-stocked with dishes, pots and pans. The gas grill on the deck is a great feature. The beds were all comfortable and there were plenty of extra blankets. Also lots of bath towels. The wifi wasn't adequate to use Netflix but we enjoyed the stock of family-friendly movies. The primary negative is the deferred maintenance. Window screens are missing or damaged. The screen on the patio door fell off the track every time it was opened. Opening the windows for cooling also opened the home to mosquitos so we had to use insect spray in the house. One of the baseboard heaters appeared to have caught fire and no longer worked. Also, the home could be cleaner. The fridge smelled like sour milk, mildew in shower, no vacuuming beyond traffic patterns. Small things that could be corrected.

For other travelers, the golf course is not family friendly even if there is no one else golfing. This isn't the place to take your tweens golfing. The store at the Chevron is well stocked and prices are reasonable. The Playmill Theatre in West Yellowstone is awesome

Felt like home!

  • 4 of 5

This was our first experiencing renting a home for our vacation. From the moment we booked the rental, Trina was extremely friendly and professional.

PROS: Fit 15 people comfortably, clean and tidy, notes around the house for exact directions on housekeeping and clean-up, attentive and friendly house manager (Trina) with prompt responses to calls/texts to our concerns/questions

CONS: no AC or central air (it got really hot some days), the backdoor did not have a lock when we were staying there (which made us feel a little uneasy), the neighbors dog would roam into the yard (unleashed, big husky dog, when we were trying to pack our vehicles to the Park) we paid 2 separate cleaning fee (one through the site, and one left on counter for maid) but we were still asked to wash linens after using them.

Owner's Response: The door is fixed!!! yay!!! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you again. The cabin now has a window ac unit in the master bedroom for summer only. The neighbor's dog is a very old german shepherd which is very friendly. She can be intimidating because of her size. The neighbor is aware of her wanderings and when we have guests tethers her. Most of the time though he takes her to work with him at the Elk Creen Mechanics shop. The backdoor does lock now. New latch in place. Tested. There is now only one cleaning fee. Thanks for your comments. I believe this was your first stay at a vacation rental by owner too. yay!! Glad it was a positive experience. We hope to accomadate you again!
