Why Andy Scholl chose Mount Gretna
The cottage was built around 1910 and bought by our parents in the 50s. My 6 siblings and I inherited from them. It is one of many historical cottages in the area where you will find the area to be laid back, relaxing and lots of friendly people.

Sweet nostalgia trip!
We were only there for a couple of days, but we really enjoyed this sweet cottage! We spent most of our time on the pleasant porch, with its gingerbread trim and colorful furniture. My husband and I are both architects, and we're especially fond of the wooden architectural details of this kind of cottage, with its beaded board surfaces and quirky details. I'm recovering from a broken leg, and am still using a crutch to get around, (luckily, I can negotiate steps!) so having the porch gave me a pleasant place to sketch and sit. We enjoyed the Sunday morning music and did a jigsaw puzzle on the big kitchen table and relaxed. The beds were comfortable, and the kitchen, although we ate out most of the time, was charming and functional. We didn't use the tv or sound system, but the place was well outfitted for someone who would want to do that. We especially appreciated being able to bring our dog. We had two old shelties at the time I made the reservation, but we had lost one by the time we actually took our trip. Our remaining dog enjoyed sitting on the porch with me, watched the passing parade of people, often with their dogs. We would love to return, and stay a bit longer, next time. Thank you so much for a nice escape!
Accommodating hosts, vintage charm and 4 large bedrooms.
The 4 bedroom home was just the right size for us to share with our grandchildren. The porch was the children's favorite spot. The boys played legos on the side porch while the girls giggled and sang as they swung in the porch swing. We loved the vintage decor. When we walked in we immediately felt welcomed. Note one bed was nicknamed the "rolly bed" and was a little bit of a challenge for 2 to sleep on (it felt like a water bed). No problem because there were plenty of beds for everyone. The owners were helpful and accommodating. We enjoyed our stay.
This house is decorated so lovely and has everything you would need to stay for a few days or if you are lucky, a much longer stay. The favorite spot was the swinging bed on the porch. Everyone wanted to nap there! Would highly recommend this place. It was clean and comfortable. The air conditioning was so appreciated on the hot days we were visiting.
The cottage has a very homey feeling. I, in particular, loved the feel of the upstairs. Bedrooms are very big. We had four children and the bedrooms had plenty of room for them to play. In addition, there is a playground just down the hill for the children to play. Also, if you go for a walk towards the music center, there is another playground. The community has a few things for everyone. An ice cream shop, a few restaurants, and a souvenir shop. Gorgeous.
When we arrived at the cottage, Matt (Andy's brother) was there to show us around. I found this very helpful as he pointed out things about the home. Matt was friendly, considerate and checked on us to see if we needed anything for our stay. He was never intrusive and got anything we needed for our stay.
We greatly enjoyed our stay and would stay there again!!!
Cottage with a Camp Atmosphere
My friends and I had a great weekend celebrating a 60th Birthday! Relaxing on the porch, and being able to walk to the Playhouse, the Hideaway, and the Jigger Shop all added to the experience. Short drive to the Celtic Festival. The neighbors were very friendly. The house was a prefect location, and provided us with what we needed!
Average Rental Cottage in a Great Getaway Town
We had never been to Mt Gretna. We had never even heard of Mt Gretna, but we needed a house in that general area for our kids travel soccer weekend. It turned out to be a fantastic little town in the woods of Pennsylvania. I've never seen a town quite like it with summer home cottages all stacked on the side of a wooded hill, big porches with artists and writers and dancers all spending their summer in this great hideaway. Lake Gretna is only .5 miles away with a great beach, diving platforms, and a lake swing that the kids absolutely loved. The house itself is what you'd expect from a "cottage". Somewhat rustic (another less offensive word for old), but completely fine for what we needed and clean enough. I have allergies to cats, dogs, and dust, but did just fine in the home. The outdoor porch is great for the warm summer evenings and we all sat outside and had a glass of wine as we listened to the choir singing in the outdoor church amphitheater nearby. We'll definitely be back to Mt. Gretna, our new favorite little town we never heard of. Next time we'll try to breakfast restaurant, the miniature golf, and we hope to catch a show at the outdoor Playhouse.
