There is a stackable washer/dryer in the closet in the hall.

All mattresses in the main house are from Austin Natural Mattress and are about a year old.

The guest room above the garage has a queen bed, TV, VCR, chair with ottoman, small folding table and chair for indoor or outdoor use, microwave, electric kettle, keurig coffee maker, and a small refrigerator. The back porch is completely gated for dogs and small children. The cabin backs to a cliff over the lake and when water levels are high enough you can see the lake from the back yard. There are large oaks and junipers in the back yard and a bird feeder that attracts tufted titmice, cardinals, chickadees, finches, and buntings. There is a stone patio with a propane fire pit (This generally cannot be used due to burn bans), swings, and a hammock.

The yard is xeriscaped and teaming with native plants and wild flowers in season.

The house has hardwoods and tile throughout. No carpeting. Green cleaners and green paper products are provided.

The miles of paved trails and hiking trails make The Hollows a great destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The community also offers 3 beautiful swimming pools overlooking the lake and a hot tub. There is a community fitness center and a restaurant that is open from Spring Break thru Labor Day Fridays and Saturdays. There is a play scape and volleyball court below the pool. The Northshore Marina is walking distance from the pool complex. You can arrange for boat rentals, swim from the dock in the designated swim area, or get ice cream from the marina's store and watch the boats go by. This complex is about a mile from our cabin.

About Germaine Curry

My husband and I moved to Austin from Norway in 1995 to go to graduate school at UT. We have 3 children ages 6, 11, and 14.

Germaine Curry purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Germaine Curry chose Lake Travis

We rented a cabin in the Hollow for several years before we bought this property. We chose this cabin for it's peaceful location. The Hollows is only 45 minutes from downtown Austin. There is usually a breeze, especially at the pool, and fewer mosquitoes. The temperature is generally a few degrees cooler than downtown as well. It's a quick and wonderful escape from our hectic lives in the city.

What makes this cabin unique

The rustic charm of the cabin is refreshing. I especially enjoy relaxing on the back porch. The trails are quiet and easily accessible. You can find most things you need in Lago Vista which is about half a mile from The Hollows entrance on 1431. Flat Creek Winery and the Balcones Conservation Preserve are both a few miles away.

Lovely home by Lake with access to resort pool and playground!

  • 5 of 5

Germaine's home is truly lovely. It is well furnished with tasteful art and top of the line furniture, linens, towels, etc. It was easy to cook and eat here, and easy to get to the development pool and lake front. Best of all for us were the plethora of awesome kids toys, games, dvds, etc. that kept our young'uns occupied for hours! I would stay here again and recommended it others looking for a quiet, peaceful place to hang out in Central Texas.

We all wished we had stayed elsewhere

  • 2 of 5

We stayed several nights & had a less than relaxing stay at this property.

Our biggest problem came with the room above the garage. The internet was extremely problematic (even after resetting the modem), the television was unplugged & they were not able to get it to work, two light bulbs were out and they thought both the AC & the mattress were extremely noisy. Two of our group staying this room did not enjoy their stay.

My wife and I were sleeping on the master mattress when the frame collapsed near our head at 4am. Our heads dropped about 9”. The frame was held together with what appeared to be a broom handle or stick. Proper hardware was not used. See pic.

Our group was planning on grilling and everyone had done some grocery shopping for meals like grilled ribeye, hamburgers, etc. Unfortunately, the grill had not been cleaned in a very long time. After turning it on, it caught on fire…it turned into a nasty grease fire. It’s not safe to use. See pic.

The key for the pool use was not left out for us. We had to call the neighbor/caretaker. The gate to the pool was problematic too, apparently there was a mechanical issue. We were finally able to gain access our 2nd full day there.

The neighbor/caretaker explained that the home had not been rented yet this season & it was not quite ready. At the rate we paid I expected a little more preparation and none of the unpleasant experiences

I contacted the owner expressing these concerns weeks ago. I heard nothing back. We prepaid, so I guess she’s not too worried about it.

Our group all felt they would have been more comfortable staying at another property.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately, I was unable to address Bill's complaints as this is the first time I am hearing many of them. There were some hiccups with Bill's visit. My house manager worked very hard to address all the issues he brought to her attention while he was at the house. At Bill's convenience, she provided him with a new grill, another pool card, and a gate opener. She even came over to change the light bulbs for him despite the fact that there are light bulbs and a step ladder in the closet. He sent her away as the timing was inconvenient. The master bed was damaged by guests. The handyman had repaired it. I am ordering a metal frame to further support the mattress. Guests are supposed to clean the grill after using it; the housekeeper is now performing an additional cleaning of the grill. I'm afraid the air-conditioning in the upstairs unit is not the quietest. Guests have never complained about it or the bed or the TV upstairs before. The wifi is spotty. I do mention this in my house info. This is a rural area and coverage is not the best. I have an extender in the apartment over the garage to improve coverage. I am ordering a new router from Time Warner to try to improve the wifi. No other guest has complained about this. This is my family cabin, and I work hard to ensure an ideal stay for my guests. I am sorry Bill was unhappy.

Very nice place. Clean and well kept. Location is great. Only one thing that was a bit of a disappointment the public pools were a bit chilly for our babies to swim in. But the 2nd day there we found one pool that was warmer. And one more thing was that any alcoholic beverages were not allowed to be brought in and there were a group of ladies that obviously brought their own drinks and beverages to the pool. And there were no officials around to keep an eye on that.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review. In the off season (after Labor Day), the pools are not well supervised when the restaurant is closed. There are spot checks to make sure people aren't bringing in alcohol, but they are not entirely effective. Only the grotto hot tubs on the lower level are heated and only on weekends in the off season. It is very peaceful in the fall but definitely fewer amenities. Thank you for visiting.
