The miles of paved trails and hiking trails make The Hollows a great destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The community also offers 3 beautiful swimming pools overlooking the lake and a hot tub. There is a community fitness center and a restaurant that is open from Spring Break thru Labor Day Fridays and Saturdays. There is a play scape and volleyball court below the pool. The Northshore Marina is walking distance from the pool complex. You can arrange for boat rentals, swim from the dock in the designated swim area, or get ice cream from the marina's store and watch the boats go by. This complex is about a mile from our cabin.
My husband and I moved to Austin from Norway in 1995 to go to graduate school at UT. We have 3 children ages 6, 11, and 14.
Germaine Curry purchased this cabin in 2010
We rented a cabin in the Hollow for several years before we bought this property. We chose this cabin for it's peaceful location. The Hollows is only 45 minutes from downtown Austin. There is usually a breeze, especially at the pool, and fewer mosquitoes. The temperature is generally a few degrees cooler than downtown as well. It's a quick and wonderful escape from our hectic lives in the city.
The rustic charm of the cabin is refreshing. I especially enjoy relaxing on the back porch. The trails are quiet and easily accessible. You can find most things you need in Lago Vista which is about half a mile from The Hollows entrance on 1431. Flat Creek Winery and the Balcones Conservation Preserve are both a few miles away.
Germaine's home is truly lovely. It is well furnished with tasteful art and top of the line furniture, linens, towels, etc. It was easy to cook and eat here, and easy to get to the development pool and lake front. Best of all for us were the plethora of awesome kids toys, games, dvds, etc. that kept our young'uns occupied for hours! I would stay here again and recommended it others looking for a quiet, peaceful place to hang out in Central Texas.
We stayed several nights & had a less than relaxing stay at this property.
Our biggest problem came with the room above the garage. The internet was extremely problematic (even after resetting the modem), the television was unplugged & they were not able to get it to work, two light bulbs were out and they thought both the AC & the mattress were extremely noisy. Two of our group staying this room did not enjoy their stay.
My wife and I were sleeping on the master mattress when the frame collapsed near our head at 4am. Our heads dropped about 9”. The frame was held together with what appeared to be a broom handle or stick. Proper hardware was not used. See pic.
Our group was planning on grilling and everyone had done some grocery shopping for meals like grilled ribeye, hamburgers, etc. Unfortunately, the grill had not been cleaned in a very long time. After turning it on, it caught on fire…it turned into a nasty grease fire. It’s not safe to use. See pic.
The key for the pool use was not left out for us. We had to call the neighbor/caretaker. The gate to the pool was problematic too, apparently there was a mechanical issue. We were finally able to gain access our 2nd full day there.
The neighbor/caretaker explained that the home had not been rented yet this season & it was not quite ready. At the rate we paid I expected a little more preparation and none of the unpleasant experiences
I contacted the owner expressing these concerns weeks ago. I heard nothing back. We prepaid, so I guess she’s not too worried about it.
Our group all felt they would have been more comfortable staying at another property.
It was great. The house was very comfortable for our family of 8. We will stay there again.
Very nice place. Clean and well kept. Location is great. Only one thing that was a bit of a disappointment the public pools were a bit chilly for our babies to swim in. But the 2nd day there we found one pool that was warmer. And one more thing was that any alcoholic beverages were not allowed to be brought in and there were a group of ladies that obviously brought their own drinks and beverages to the pool. And there were no officials around to keep an eye on that.
We stayed 2 night at this awesome Property, very clean and well organized. We are planning to go back soon.
The house was perfect for our group. We were 4 adults, 4 children between ages 4-7 and two dogs. The kids (and dogs) spent many hours playing outside during the daytime and the adults enjoyed the porch even more after the kids were in bed! The kitchen was well equipped and we ended up preparing all of our own meals after a day on the lake, or after time at the pool. The Beach club was also lovely with several swimming pools and offering a drinks and food service. A really successful family vacation.
