Property was nice - floors dirty.

  • 1 of 5

Thanks to my family we had a wonderful weekend. The place was nice and the lake was beautiful!! It wasn't until I received an message from Michelle, the owner, that things began to turn bad. Fortunately we decided to take pictures of the 12 items that were wrong with the cottage, including the duct taped oven door, because Michelle tried to charge us for 3 items that were damaged prior to our arrival. It wasn't until I told her we had pictures, that she changed her mind and refunded our deposit. I just hope the duct taped oven door, refrigerator crisper drawer, leaking refrigerator freezer, broken dining area blind, sliding door, to name a few, washing machine handle (we never used the washing machine, to name a few, are fixed before the next renter arrives and has to go through what we did.

Owner's Response: We have a cleaning service that has been with us for years, and the service is the one that reports the damages to property. Said damages were not present before this guest's stay. As a matter of fact, I forwarded texts sent to us from this guest telling us how nice our place was to VRBO for the record...and not once was there any mention of broken items. Only compliments. Also no mention of dirty floors in texts, guests threatening complaint via phone when I asked for payment for damages or to VRBO. It is easy to take pictures of the items the guest broke after they broke them, and then claim it was that way when they got there. I would not recommend renting to these folks. Neighbors also pointed out that there seemed to be more guests staying at house than permitted, but I have no proof, except for the wear and tear on our home.

Think twice before you rent this cottage!

  • 2 of 5

In all the years of renting from VRBO this is the first negative review I have ever written. The cottage itself was very clean and beautiful. We knew that we needed to bring our own linens, and towels. I asked about pillows and Michelle said they had plenty of pillows. I failed to ask about blankets and there were none. Both bathrooms had a small roll of toilet paper with no additional. We rented from Friday to Sunday and Monday I received an e-mail from Michelle stating that the alarm clock was missing from one of the bedrooms. I told her that I didn't recall seeing the clock and she said "Well it is missing and we will have to charge you for it'! I received my deposit minus the $76.00 she charged us for the Soundspa Clock Radio. We did Not take her alarm clock and there is no recourse if she decides not to return your deposit.

Owner's Response: We have a cleaning service that we have used for years and trust implicitly. When home is cleaned after guest leave, all items are cataloged. When I texted this guest about the missing alarm clock, guest said she never saw it and her sister-in-law stayed in the room that it was missing from. Her sister-in-law put her suitcase on the dresser and never saw alarm clock. This is funny, because I never told her the alarm clock was on the dresser...but somehow she knew that's where it was missing from. I sent her a screenshot of the exact purchase of alarm clock from Amazon that we ordered and let her know she was responsible for it's replacement. Two of the bedrooms have this alarm clock, and one was gone after their departure. The house was also left in a complete mess, including vomit all over the downstairs powder room. Also in the rental agreement, it clearly states that we do not provide any linens. We also do not provide paper goods. This is also in the Hopitality Tab on the VRBO website, which owner had access to before arrival.

Wonderful cozy vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful time at the Haller home on Big Fish Lake. The home is beautiful, clean, cozy and I love the open concept of the family room and kitchen. This home has everything you need to have an enjoyable vacation. Plus, the beds are so comfortable! Their beach is the best on the lake. Our granddaughter had the best time playing in the sand, and they provide all the beach toys and plenty of chairs to sit around the firepit at night. Their deck off the family room is very spacious and we spent every evening enjoying the amazing sunsets! I also absolutely loved Big Fish lake, especially because it has channels that connects you to Finch and Saddlebag lakes. The Haller house also has the perfect location because it is only steps away from The Rock restaurant on Big Fish lake. Michelle is also so easy to work with and she is very responsive to any questions or concerns you may have.

I would highly recommend the Haller home for your next family vacation!

Summer Family Retreat

  • 5 of 5

The Haller home was both inviting and comfortable for our family of 10. Also plenty of parking space. Their home was very clean and nicely decorated. We enjoyed their open concept living space, quality sound system and spacious deck. The views of the lake were incredible from the house and master bedroom. The beach area was clean and sandy though shallow. We had a great time boating and floating on all three lakes (Finch, Fish and Saddlebag). Neighbors were all very friendly. Michelle was awesome to work with. Very prompt with her email and text responses. We enjoyed our stay and would consider returning if available.

Fun, family home with great beach and fishing!

  • 5 of 5

We rent every summer at a different lake and this by far was one of our favorites! There was plenty of space for sleeping, kitchen was fully stocked, nice open concept main level, and big yard. Not many lake homes have private beaches and this one did. My daughter and son had a great time playing in the sand and were able to walk out and play in the shallow water. The fishing was fantastic! We caught lots of blue gill, perch, croppie, bass - even some nice size ones from right off the end of the peer.

The only thing that wasn't great was the weather. It was warm for June, but cloudy and rainy most of the time we were there. Unfortunately we had no control over that, but we made the best of the time we were there.

Great restaurant right down the street - the Roc. Neighbors were nice and helpful. Michelle was wonderful to work with and answered all of our questions. I would recommend if you rent any boats (we rented a pontoon boat) go with Corey Lake Marina and ask for Ted. He was extremely nice and also great to work with.
