About the property

4 Bedroom, 2 1/2 baths, Sleeps 15, Lake Waterfront, On the Water, New Braunfels

Adorable river cottage with rustic touches. We are a new rental in a cute antique cabin, but we have made several new upgrades with always something new in progress!

This is our third year of renting, and each summer we have been completely booked! Be sure to book early to be able to stay at this great property!

The water is yours! We are waterfront, lakefront, a short and easy walk from the house, down to the water and hop in and play!

New paint inside (majority of the house) and out, wood floors, Front deck with patio, back deck with patio, Recently updated kitchen with granite countertops, new cabinets, built in Kitchen Aid refrigerator, Kitchen aid stainless steel range, and stainless steel oven, nice array of dishes, cooking utensils, pots and pans, bedding and towels, laundry area available for use, Large flat screen tv with DSL cable, wireless high speed internet downstairs and in 1 bedroom upstairs. Great downstairs and upstairs lake views!

We are located on Lake Dunlap, along a private road that has become a popular place for making memories and falling in love with the Hill Country on Lake Dunlap. Lake Dunlap is part of the Guadalupe river that widens and is designated as a lake after it crosses I-35, so boats and jetski's are allowed. It is a constant level lake designed for skiing, lounging and swimming, but no river floats (these are for up river). Quiet, serene, a great place to decompress and relax away from all the crowds, yet you are still within minutes to get to many Hill Country vacation hot spots. Lots of lush green lawn with many 100 foot tall trees. A great place to fish, swim or just relax. We always have water and no can-ban. We are located within 10-15 minutes of Schlitterbahn, the Comal River, the Guadalupe River and Gruene Hall. A great place for families, reunions, or gatherings. There is a boat launching ramp on the lake so you can bring your jet ski's or boat and tie up on our dock. Boat slips may or may not be available during your stay but there will at least be availability for tie offs.

Please ask any questions you may have! We are happy to help.

Please inform us of the ages of your entire party when booking. Thank you!

About Carla Walker

Homeowners on Lake Dunlap with neighboring property since 2000. We have treasured our home there and the memories made so much. Due to the proximity of homes being close together in this former fishing camp (love the history here!), we purchased this home which is more space than we need at times, so it makes for an ideal location to rent to vacationers. It is a home and memories for us, and not just an investment, so sharing this fun home with others has become quite an enjoyment for us. These are the first rental opportunities for this too cute home. Come enjoy the intoxicating river as we have and fall in love!

Why Carla Walker chose Hill Country

This adorable cabin is quite picturesque. The setting of the river and homes around the area are truly like being in the country. Wake up to hearing birds chirp and be prepared to see lots of stars in the sky that you may not be able to see at home in the city! Keep in mind that lake and country living bring wildlife as we are ON the river. You will see lizards and bugs, as well as other wildlife that may include hawks, ducks, egrets, bats, raccoons, turtles, snakes, etc. But the country air and lake views and breezes are something you can't get out of your mind. Don't miss taking in a river sunset and the calm that comes over the river. It is worth planning your day and night around no doubt!

What makes this house unique

Camp Willow cottages are located on Lake Dunlap, as an old fishing camp of cabins has now become a place for making memories and falling in love with the Hill Country on Lake Dunlap. Lake Dunlap is part of the Guadalupe river that widens and is designated as a lake after it crosses I-35, so boats and jetski's are allowed. It is a constant level lake designed for skiing, lounging and swimming, but no river floats (these are for up river). Quiet, serene, a great place to decompress and relax away from all the crowds. Lots of lush green lawn with many 100 foot tall trees. A great place to fish, swim or just relax. We always have water and no can-ban.

We are located within 5-10 minutes of Schlitterbahn, the Comal River, the Guadalupe River and Gruene Hall.

A great place for families, reunions, or small rustic weddings. There is a boat launching ramp on the lake so you can bring your jet ski's or boat.

Perfect house for any weekend

  • 5 of 5

First of all, Carla was extremely responsive from the beginning. She answered every question I had in a timely and friendly manner. Second, the house was very clean and had everything it said it had on the website. Third, I greatly appreciated the detailed instructions Carla had for us related to arrival and check-out - we knew exactly what we needed to do.

The house was perfect for a weekend with a bunch of college buddies. It has a very nice fire pit and back porch, so we spent most of our time relaxing in the backyard. The lake is beautiful, the neighbors were friendly, and the house was very clean. Overall, we will absolutely stay here again when returning to New Braunfels.

House was old and creaky but well maintained. Nice kitchen and living room area.

  • 4 of 5

House was nice enough, rooms and beds were adequate for our group. Decor and furniture was nice, update kitchen stove top. Enjoyed the kitchen and living area. Lots of low doorways and some trip hazards, floor throughout kitchen was unlevel and creaky, builtin fridge working fine... the floor is so unlevel the door has to be closed all the way... it will hang open... as will a drawer in the opposite side of the kitchen. Yard was not as pretty or spruced up as pictured or advertised. Shoreline and bulkhead were under construction and not easy access. Water was nasty. Fire pit and furniture were dilapidated and not used. Thought the property descriptions included a gas grill but only a charcoal grill available for use and had to provide our own charcoal. Would probably look for another property next time, even though everything was nice enough, would look for a different area of town next time..

Owner's Response: Hi, thank you for your comments. A few notes about your concerns. The house is a lake cabin, unique, and is an older home as I have advertised. In our years of renting and owning the house, we have had no mention of trip hazards nor have we experienced this ourselves, and I am not sure which door you are referring to. I would like to know where you feel that these areas are so they can be addressed. We are not in control of the water quality in this natural river. It changes often! There had been heavy rain around the time of your stay and unfortunately after rains it can change the color and look less than appealing and takes a few days to clear up but this again is out of our control. The yard is maintained every other week by lawn care and has looked much the same the entire time of our ownership though our new dock construction may have the yard and water's edge a little rougher at the moment. Regarding the dock construction, this is something new we are very excited to offer for our guests and I know our repeat guests will be excited about this as well. In all the years of rental we have provided shared access to the dock at our home next door (which is advertised) and upon completion our guests will have a private dock with no sharing next door. I wish that you had contacted me during your stay and I would have made sure that you knew you could use the dock next door if the shared bridge at the water's edge was not there due to construction (details of using the dock was also in the detailed document I sent to you). But seeing the new dock may have confused you into thinking that was for your use but it is still incomplete and hasn't been used by anyone yet. Towards the end of the season I am sure that after our heavy bookings there can be some wear on the fire pit. I do revamp it every year before summer and your stay was toward the end so I am sorry if it was not up to par at that time. The charcoal grill was mentioned in our email communication before your stay, and letting you know to bring charcoal. We have had a problem with keeping propane supplied so unfortunately we felt this was the best option to provide a grill for our guests. I have made sure our listing reflects that. The house is not advertised as flawless or new, but as a charming older home and we hope that it is, but there will for sure always be something we can improve upon. Thank you for taking the time to leave your review and I'm glad there were some highlights to your stay.

Great Location and Home

  • 5 of 5

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this home. Parents, daughter, 2 sons (from Houston, Austin, & Bastrop), and all the grandkids stayed comfortably in the upstairs and down, including the bed in the "foyer"... lots of supplies furnished, great beds, lots of cookware, etc. One refrig. was not real cold, but a substitute refrig. was fine. Handy entrance to the water in back, and great dock which we used a lot... kids used their floats we tied to the dock as well as an inflatable boat... jetski rental was easy with great service to and from the rental place... good backgrounds for family group pictures also. I would recommend this home to friends, and we hope to return. P.S. Nightlights came in handy...we took 4 to use so we wouldn't have to leave on lights during sleeping hours...could have used one more. : )
