A wide array of activities can be found right in your backyard. The Beaver Lake area is very unique in it's proximity to Whitefish, yet it can feel like you are miles from it all in just a short walk from the house. Murray Lake is the closets lake to the house, about 1 mile, and aside from the resident loons many times you can have the entire lake to yourself. Murray, like all of the other lakes in the area are known for fishing, swimming or just a picnic on the shore. Also within walking distance from the house is the Whitefish Trail system which provides access to 26 miles of natural surface trail covering over 13,000 acres of forested land, scenic overlooks and 6 pristine lakes.
bedroom 1- queen bed (adjoining to room #2)
bedroom 2- two twin beds, full bath
bedroom 3- one full bed with private full bath
18ft tipi can sleep as many as you want to pile in there depending how close you are. Lots of blankets available, but need to provide your own sleeping bags.
Kitchen is open to living and dining area. There is a half bath and laundry off of the kitchen. While the house is a wonderful home base for your stay, the real selling point of this home is the serenity and beauty of the outdoor setting. Biking and hiking trails await you just out your front door. As well as numerous lakes perfect for and afternoon swim or an early morning fishing session. It is far enough from town to feel like you are in the middle of nowhere letting the world go by, but its only a quick 15 minute drive into town to get necessities.
I am an avid outdoor enthusiast, hence the location of the home. I work for Mindful Designs, a continence construction/design company that specializes in 'green' building. I have done all of the work on taking this tiny one room cabin and turning it into the beautiful rustic, modern home it is now.
Great cabin with a well stocked kitchen, nice appliances, comfortable beds and a great shower. This was a very comfortable stay. Wish the fire bans were not in place so we could have had a bonfire and used the grill, but we understand why as it was dry all around Glacier. A clean, adequately equipped cabin with great well water. Close to hiking (10 minutes) at Beaver and Murray lake and well within reach of Glacier National Park (45 minute drive). Secluded enough to be out of the city, close enough to get 2nd Street Pizza home and still be warm. We will definitely stay here if we get back to the area again.
A unique hand-crafted house, extremely cozy and comfortable. Bryan was a great host, very attentive, and helpful.
We stayed at Moonridge retreat at the end of June. We were three adults (myself, my partner, and my brother-in-law) and our two year old. We had an absolutely wonderful week. We spent most days around Lake Macdonald (45min drive to Apgar) and one trip to Two Medicine (2hr drive). We also spent relaxing mornings swimming in Tally lake (30min drive) and Whitefish lake (10min). This is a great house for a family or two families sharing as the bedroom/bathroom set up makes for two very private spaces. Our two year old also thought the outdoor bathtub was fantastic fun. Proximity to town makes for easy dinner's out, and the local supermarket (Safeway, 15min drive) makes for easy grocery runs. A superb, comfortable, and relaxing way to see Glacier national park. Thank you Bryan!
We could not have asked for more from our stay during Christmas at Moonridge Retreat. Danielle and Bryan's home is welcoming and comfortable, and the decor and design, from Danielle's colorful artwork to the open floor plan to the use of wood and other natural materials in the structure, reflect the natural beauty surrounding it. We appreciated that the property felt remote, even though it is only about 15 minutes away from town and there are other properties within walking distance. Danielle and Bryan were excellent hosts, from having a small decorated Christmas tree in the window awaiting our arrival to keeping the driveway cleared for easy access and being a text away to answer questions. The house comfortably slept our family of five, although a friend ended up sleeping on the couch because we could not figure out how to gain access to the loft. We spent our week playing and hiking in the snow and exploring what we could of East Glacier National Park (much of it was closed for the winter). This was a magical place for our Southern California family to spend a white Christmas. Thank you, Danielle and Bryan, for making this possible. After having so enjoyed Whitefish in the snow, we hope next to return to the area, and to Moonridge Retreat, to stay in the Spring.
Although Whitefish draws a lot of skiers, our goal was mostly to get out of our busy urban environment, relax, enjoy each others company, play in the snow, play games, and quietly ring in the new year. Moonridge retreat was a fantastic place for this. The house is clean, well furnished, with a well equipped kitchen (we did lots of cooking), and the owners who live just up the hill were very responsive with questions. The house is situated on a large property with plenty of small country roads nearby which provided opportunity to go meandering through the countryside without having to cross busy roads. If it hadn't been wintery, I would have been interested in exploring further afield, but for the four days we were there, we were completely content.
Since we were mostly staying at the house and not going into town or elsewhere frequently, we took a cab from the train station to the house instead of renting a car. It required a bit of explaining each time on how to get to the house to pick us up, but the folks at glacier taxi were patient and kind. A cab ride from central Whitefish to the house costs about $30 including tip. The town of Whitefish was actually far busier than I had expected, but that's probably because it was the holidays.
Overall, a completely charming stay.
We stayed 4 nights at this unique and lovely rental. We're a couple in our 30's with one child. The price was reasonable and the accommodations excellent. The hosts made us feel at home and even bought a little chair for our 2 year old (which she adored). They were welcoming and available, but we didn't need any help since they had everything set up so well from the outset. There's a nice soaking tub, plus a couple nearby lakes that are good for cooling off in summer. It was a little buggy in the evening but not bad. The road is definitely rough and dusty, so don't bring your pristine German engineering here, but it isn't anything a normal car can't handle. There is no AC so you have to be astute with your blinds and window management so it doesn't become an inferno. That said, it was in the 90's the whole time we were there and the house stayed comfortably in the 70's. We had a couple fires, made smores, and explored the area. We would definitely stay here again if we were in the area.
