About Dawn & Courtney Nicolson

The Nicolson Family are Fairhaven residents since 1990. We enjoy biking, discovering funky finds at antique shops and yard sales, gardening, and a good ol' game of wiffleball!

Dawn & Courtney Nicolson purchased this cottage in 1990

Why Dawn & Courtney Nicolson chose Fairhaven

The Nicolson family moved from the Cape to Fairhaven in 1990 and began summering on Wilbur's Point. Once we found this cottage, we knew it was the one. 'Seekhaven' as we call it was one of the original early 1900's cottages in a summer colony developed by Herbert Horatio Wilbur. The cottage is ingrained in the history of the town, and photographs can be found of the home dating back to the hurricane of 1938 when many of the cottages were destroyed but ours withstood. The home has been a place of retreat for the family to unplug, unwind, and enjoy the quiet life by the sea.

What makes this cottage unique

Seekhaven is unique because our home is situated as close to the water as possible behind the safety of a sea wall at the edge of the lawn. Many of the newer homes on the point had new building regulations that required them to be built farther from the water's edge and many raised on stilts. You can watch the sun rise from the living room couches or while laying in bed, allowing the warmth and light to wake you instead of an alarm.

Perfect Cottage including the roses and picket fence

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a lovely week here in July. The area is quiet but easy to access other activities in the area. We enjoyed the restaurants in New Bedford and the other south coast towns. We rented bikes for the week from Yesteryear Cyclery in Dartmouth and bicycled to West Island, Fairhaven Center (breakfast at Simmy's), and Mattapoisett. We loved the outdoor eating areas at the cottage and had our extended family to a lovely, Italian al fresco barbeque. Morning coffee and afternoon cocktails were especially pleasant with that fabulous seascape before us. Dawn and Courtney were gracious and accommodating in handling our special requests. The week went by too quickly.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your delightful review. The Italian barbecue sounds festive, just the kind of gathering we love to see at Seekhaven! It is good information for us to know that Yesteryear was able to provide all that you needed. Courtney and I hope our paths will cross again. Many thanks.

Peaceful and quiet haven!

  • 5 of 5

The perfect place for those who seek a waterfront cottage without the noise and crowd that generally goes with it. Dawn, the owner, has put all the efforts to make our stay as enjoyable as it could be. Very comfortable and well-maintained cottage directly on the beach at the end of a tranquil point only a ten minutes drive to the center of town where you will find good restaurants and stores. The perfect getaway for a couple who seeks peace and quiet.
