About Christy Rowe

We are excited to offer our Loft House to vacationers to enjoy our 'little peace of heaven' that we are enjoying in our semi-retirement. Our family has had vacation property in Mason County since the 60's so we are very familiar with the area. We have had lake property and then moved to saltwater property on Pickering Passage as a family in 1989. We originally lived and grew up in West Seattle but after the kids leaving home and semi-retirement we decided to build a home in Mason County moving here permanently in 2013. We are loving the community and the people we've met. The setting is serene, quite and peaceful. We look forward to having others enjoy this special spot exploring the South South and the Olympic Peninsula.

Christy Rowe purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Christy Rowe chose Puget Sound South

Many people don't know much about South Sound. Once they visit by boat or car people are amazed how quiet and beautiful this area is and by how close to hiking and exploring they are. We talked about moving out of Seattle for several years and finally made the move permanently April 2013 and we LOVE it here!

What makes this cottage unique

Benefits? Close to hiking, the Olympic National Forest, the salt water, Hood Canal. Birds, deer, otters and eagles galore. Unique get-away in an area of the Northwest that many people don't even know exist - South Sound.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Written review and responses between Homeowners and Guest:

Homeowner: "What did you especially enjoy about your stay?"

Guest: "Really enjoyed the quietness. Beautiful spot. I was there for golf and it met my needs perfectly."

Homeowner: "Is there anything we could have done to make your stay more enjoyable?"

Guest: "No, everything was very nice."

Homeowner: "Do you have suggestions we might consider adding or changing - either in The Loft unit itself or to the outdoor spaces?"

Guest: "It was perfect for me and more than I expected. I don't think you should change anything."

Thank-you Devin ~ we are glad your eight nights here were enjoyable.

Cozy, Modern, Lovely and Welcoming

We loved staying here. A perfect place to easily launch kayaks with kids. The home had everything we needed to make delicious meals. The grounds surrounding were fun to explore--you never need to leave. Hugh front yard for the kids to run around. A perfect place for a romantic get away. The hosts are incredibly kind and thoughtful and helpful.

Beautiful home, amazing beach access

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our time at the Guest Home on Pickering Passage. Highlights for us were:

- a yard for our son to enjoy

- beach access and water views just beyond the main house

- a dock that provided fun family fishing during high tide

- picking blackberries

- seeing deer

The owners were incredibly accommodating and the home itself is absolutely gorgeous and well stocked (great kitchen space, extra pillows, games). The wi-fi is also excellent. It was a great stay and would recommend!

The perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

It was awesome. It's been a while since our last family vacation and this was the perfect place. The loft is not a big place but it has everything you will need from wi-fi to toothpaste. Beds were comfortable. The ladder to the loft was pretty steep so you do have to watch your step going up or down. The owners were very friendly and courteous. Quiet surrounding and beautifully landscaped yard. Beach access from owner's back yard which we have full access to. Did not have a chance to use the kayak during this visit but it's available for guests to use. The information binder at the loft has lots of info on nearby restaurants and activities if you are not familiar with south sound. All in all, an excellent place. Will definitely return in the future. Highly recommended.

Owner's Response: Thank-you for your very positive review. It was a pleasure to meet your family and hope you will return - winter break as your son said? This response describes our setting very well. This is the first summer we have advertised our Loft house as a vacation rental and it has been a wonderful experience. From each guest and their comments we learn something, add something, change something to continue to improve our get-away. One point to clarify is the use of the kayaks. Originally we were not going to offer them to guests because of the liability involved. We are researching how to best offer the kayaks for use and what type of liability release forms and/or insurance we may need to have. Pickering Passage is such a great place to boat and kayak, it would be a plus to have the kayaks available. Stay tuned! But if you have your own kayaks, bring them down. There also is a public boat ramp 1.5 miles north of us to launch your own boat for the day. We are encouraged by our guests and their comments and we are so glad to be able to share our little bit of peace and quiet in a beautiful setting with others. Thank-you. ***UPDATE: We now have a Hold Harmless Agreement to offer if renters would like to use our kayaks. Thank-you!

Great family friendly property off the beaten path

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four (2 adults, 2 school-age children) thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Everything was absolutely as advertised - quiet, scenic, new/modern ameneties, very well kept, abundant opportunities for recreation/sightseeing, etc. Although somewhat secluded (which is what we were looking for), the location was an ideal gateway for our day trips around the South Sound area and to Olympic National Park. The guest home was definitely cozy for the four of us, but not cramped. The best part of our stay was the owners; Christy and David were very welcoming, helpful and gracious hosts. We would ABSOLUTELY recommend them and their property to others. We loved our time at the Loft so much, we would have stayed longer if we could have!

Owner's Response: Thank-you for your review and highlighting the features that we enjoy about our property. The Loft property is quiet and secluded and off the beaten path. Yet it is the perfect location near the Olympic National Forest for a day of hiking and exploring, forty minutes from Olympia which offers numerous restaurants and shops and a wonderful Farmer's Market. The Loft is a great 'get out of the city' spot to relax, read your book or bring your kayak and get out on the water. The best part of starting our VRBO has been meeting wonderful people and sharing the beauty of South Sound with them.

Beautifully appointed cabin, modern cabin

  • 4 of 5

Wife and I had a lovely golf weekend on Pickering Passage. "The Loft" is a small but richly and tastefully appointed cabin with all the amenities we could possibly need. The owners are friendly and helpful and respected our privacy.

It's a twenty minute drive into the small town of Shelton, WA. Shelton offers a few restaurants (We enjoyed The Strip Steakhouse), and a couple of supermarkets. Salish Cliffs golf course is thirty minutes away. Great golf courses in Bremerton and around Olympia too.

Note that this cabin does not overlook the water. Read the description closely... this is a cabin in the owners back yard. There is access to the beach and dock by walking past the owners house. Based on the photos, I made an assumption that we'd have views of the water. The text makes it clear this isn't the case... the mistake was entirely my own, but don't make the same assumption I made. The house is part of a small waterfront community, and although you can see many other houses from the cabin, we found it to be quiet and private.

Its a but tough to find, so be sure to contact the owners before setting out.

I recommend this property highly.

Owner's Response: Thank-your for your very thoughtful and positive review of our new VRBO. We also appreciate your information about local golf courses visited during your stay. Because we are not golfers it is nice to hear from someone who is and to find out what courses are available in our area. Thank-you also for pointing out that The Loft does not sit directly on the water but there is a private sitting area for guests on the water side of our home and access to the boat launch for kayaking (bringing your own of course) and walking on the beach. The one theme all of our guests have mentioned is the quiet and relaxing time they have had. We have had guests bring their own kayaks, some who just want to read and sit in the sun, others who used this site as a jump off point for hiking in the Olympic National Forest and even one family who went to Hurricane Ridge for a day long hike and adventure. Other guests have enjoyed a day trip into Olympia for exploring, eating at a variety of restaurants or picking up fresh food at the Farmer's Market to bring back to grill and cook. We are also 30 minutes from a casino with gambling and restaurants. Lots to do here - be on the go or sit and relax and we are adaptable to provide privacy or conversation for our guests as they request. Please contact us if you have any questions and we are happy to assist you in your get-away vacation.
