Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Sleeps 2

A unique tropical home located on the edge of the sea with an unrivaled location. At one time this cabana was a bar in the village. It was put on barrels and floated down to this location. The couple who own it converted it into a simple tropical home for windsurfing, fly fishing, kayaking, and yoga. At thirty feet from the waters edge, located in a quiet coconut grove, it is a bird watchers paradise, and appeals to anyone who wants a quiet and peaceful vacation only a short walk (10 minutes) or bike ride into the village. It even has its own pier for fishing or swimming. While the upgrades have made it much more comfortable, it retains the flavor of an authentic Belizean wood frame house. Its furniture and trim are handcrafted from beautiful tropical hardwoods. Its ceiling fans and well equipped kitchen with everything needed to prepare a wonderful meal, the tiled bathroom and shower, and the wonderful outdoor shower, all combine to make a stay here enjoyable and comfortable. The house is fully screened, and as you relax on the veranda, overlooking the sea, the visiting aguanas, wading birds, and osprey are always available for entertainment. Each morning you can watch the sun rise from your comfy bed. The house is ideal for couples, and over the years many have come here to spend their honeymoon and returned year after year! The constant sea breeze with the rustling of the coconut fronds, and the quiet peaceful location make this home a unique treasure!

About Debbie n clark

we purchased this property in 1987 when caye caulker was a small undiscovered spot. It holds a very special spot in our hearts, and although much has changed on the island, we sit on the veranda and look out at the sea and nothing has changed! It is still a tropical dream, our little piece of paradise!

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had an amazing one week stay at Coconut Grove. Location is perfect, just away enough from the main action so we could enjoy quietly the breeze on our balcony, but not too far either (an easy 5-10 minutes bike ride). The kitchen is spacious and has everything you need to cook up full meals, outdoor shower is great, view is amazing and the balcony is great to relax, for birdwatching or simply enjoy the lovely breeze.

Coconut Grove is AWESOME!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 6 days at Coconut Grove and loved every minute! The house is so comfortable and welcoming. We spent lots of time on the deck watching birds and enjoying the ocean view. We absolutely recommend this property for a quiet vacation stay on Caye Caulker.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your positive response.! As much as caye caulker has changed over the years, our little piece of paradise still has so much of its magic. It's always nice to hear from folks who enjoy it as much as we do! It helps us remember how special it really is! Debbie and Clark

Lovely little place

  • 4 of 5

This is a lovely little place situated close to, but out of the fray of Front Street. It is a five minute walk or three minute bicycle ride to the hustle and bustle of the restaurants and shopkeepers. This place is located right where you want to be....just outside the buzz.

Traveler tip - You don't need a taxi. Rather, follow the path from the airport to the east, turn south at the bend, and the house will be just south of the airstrip after the coconut trees start. It is a 200 meter walk from the air terminal to the house. Ask Brenda or Bobbi to meet you there as opposed to dragging all of your baggage several blocks north to "The Split", and then going back south. Also, Brenda and Bobbi were very helpful in lining up bicycles for $5 per day, versus the normal $15 per day rate...and the bike guy even delivered the bikes!

Have no fear about the airstrip, there's no lights - so planes only operate in daylight hours. I enjoyed sitting by the coconut trees and watching the planes take off.

The first of two downsides was some of the less desirable fragrances of Caye Caulker. If there is no breeze, the water by the house smells somewhat brackish. The other issue that is if the breeze is out of the west, the smell of the local workers burning trash at the dump can be quite strong. Both scents were strong in the morning, but quickly disappeared as the day wore on and the breeze kicked up and changed direction.

The second is that this place is secluded, and therefore and easy target for petty theft. Lock your windows and doors while you are gone, and use the safe provided by the owners, and you will have no issues. Don't worry, the place cools down within minutes after opening up the windows again.

Loved the house, loved the island, and I loved the people. Highly recommended!

Secluded paradise!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent 4 nights here and absolutely loved the place! Nightly breezes, far away from everything and so quiet! Bobbi and Heydi were amazingly attentive and prompt with any help we needed. Looking for a quiet retreat on Caye Caulker? This place can't be beat!

A VERY SPECIAL SPOT!!!

  • 5 of 5

It was just what we were looking for, and the description was more than accurate! we only wish we were there for a longer time! Our favorite things-the heritage cruise around the island, snorkeling, the jam session on Friday afternoon in the village. At coconut grove we loved the veranda, the hammock, and the outdoor shower! After seeing the rest of the island, we were convinced we had chosen the best place. we would highly recommend this property

A convenient island hide-away

  • 5 of 5

we would recommend this house to anyone. It was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed! The location was convenient to everything, The bike riding around the island was a fun way to find your way around and meet the locals and there culture. Loved the daily fresh tortillas! As first time snorkelers..we couldnt have felt safer. Sitting on the front porch watching the sunrise, and enjoying a rum punch at the end of the day were both daily activiites that we will remember for a long time. And we had free wifi in the house to keep in touch with our kids, who couldnt believe we took off for central america!

Car: not necessary

caye caulker is a 'laid back' tropical paradise where the theme is 'GO-SLOW'. Located in the worlds second largest barrier reef, water activities abound. Snorkeling and diving are spectacular, fly fishing on the flats is world class, and the tropical breezes make wind surfing and kite boarding a life time memory. The lush vegetation on the caye makes for a bird watchers paradise, and the protection from the reef provides wonderful areas for kayaking and paddleboarding.
