Sunset House is a 2 bedroom, 1,800 square foot house in the Russian River Valley AVA.
It sits on nearly 1/2 acre in a semi-rural setting in the Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club subdivision; right off Occidental Road and minutes from downtown Sebastopol and Santa Rosa, Highways 12 and 101.
Vast western sky views paint a different portrait every night as the sun goes down over mountains that grace the Pacific coastline. Sometimes a soft watercolor. Sometimes the bold, thick colors of oil on canvas.
Inside you’ll find unique and inviting open-plan architecture - a balance between public and private spaces. Where arching beams, cathedral ceilings, and golden skylights enfold a mixture of Family Furnishings, Asian Antiques, and Original Art reflective of life in Northern California. The large Great Room provides a comfy gathering place.
During the day, enjoy a meal on the Patio or in the Great Room, overlooking the lush rolling grass and trees that dot the golf course. Listen for and watch the hummingbirds who dine at Sunset House feeders year-round.
As dusk turns to night, listen to Great Horned and Barn owls as darkness deepens under a star-studded sky and the air grows crisp among oak, redwood and cypress trees.
Sunset House is steps away from vineyards and farms, ranches and forests, historic towns and cities with many specialty shops carrying irresistible, locally made food, wine, beer, cider, and incredible art.
With easy access to Highways 12, 116 and 101, it is an ideal spot from which to see what the region has to offer. San Francisco is an hour's drive south down Highway 101, with many interesting stops along the way, including Petaluma, Tiburon, Sausalito, Muir Woods, Stinson Beach and Mill Valley. Kayaks and canoes can be rented at the Monte Rio beach on the Russian River during the summer months. Or take the scenic drive to Bodega Bay. Enjoy its good seafood restaurants, and see where Alfred Hitchcock's 'The Birds' was filmed.
An ideal location for those attending events at the private Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club -- weddings, parties, and tournaments.
“This is the chosen spot of all the earth as far as nature is concerned” wrote Luther Burbank.

It is an ideal spot for those attending events at the Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club, and for touring the wine country, the Russian River or simply to relax, unwind and regenerate.
Stunning western views day and night.
Inspiring open plan architecture with arching beams and cathedral ceilings.
Family furnishings, local art, and antiques.
Centrally located for wine country exploration.
Private and peaceful -- situated on nearly 1/2 acre.
Near the private Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club; the perfect place to stay when attending club events.
Well-tended gardens full of roses and other perennials. They include David Austin's Abraham Darby, Tamora, and Benjamin Britten, in addition to About Face, Distant Drums, Julia Child, Pope John Paul, Marilyn Monroe,
Barbra Streisand, Queen Elizabeth and Hot Cocoa.
Home to hummingbirds year-round who dine at Sunset House feeders. According to Tim Stewart from Wild Birds Unlimited in Santa Rosa, they are most likely 'Anna's Hummingbirds and from their coloring the two photos on this listing indicate that they are female Anna's. Anna's hummingbirds are not migratory, so they live here year-round. When you get familiar with their chirp you will hear them in the trees when feeding time nears. If you are quiet, don't move and are lucky, you will see them feed. They can be a few feet away from you, suspended in mid-air by the fast beating of wings and are facinating to watch.
Our 6 night stay at the Sunset House was absolutely wonderful. The house is so cute and very comfortable. It was so neat and clean. The house was set in a beautiful and quiet neighborhood. I loved sitting on the porch overlooking a golf course and watching all the hummingbirds play. We enjoyed walking through the neighborhood seeing the many farms, beautiful homes and vineyards. The owner was great to work with and provided information about where to go and what to do. We can't wait to go back!
Sunset house is a beautiful, quiet retreat. It is set in a quiet neighborhood where you can enjoy walking and getting away from it all. The artwork and furnishings inside are beautiful. The back patio is comfortable and the garden is very well kept. There is plenty of seating to enjoy hummingbirds, squirrels, and other birds outside. It was immaculate inside and very well kept. The owner is very responsive to your requests and will help you with any questions you have. I would highly recommend this property to friends, family or anyone looking for a great place. I plan to return with my own friends and family when I can.
This is a great place to stay while in Sonoma. It is in a quiet neighborhood overlooking the golf course with a nice view, plenty of room to stretch out and Anne and Laurie have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. Easy access (short drive) to great wineries, restaurants, Sebastopol, Santa Rosa, roughly 20 ish minutes to Healdsburg. Loved it- hopefully we will be back.
We had an outstanding time at Sunset House. It was very clean, had all the cooking supplies that you would need and it is perfectly located.
Our stayed with a beautiful sunset and the next morning we took a wonderful walk in the neighborhood. We live in the Central Valley, so waking up to a chilly morning was incredible.
We tell my friends if they a little getaway I know a great place to stay!
Thank you again Anne,
We enjoyed our stay and are going back for another one. Nice and quiet, attractive neighborhood. You have the entire house, so it's as if you live there while you are there. The only extra noise you hear is the occasional beating of the wings of the hummingbirds.
This was our second visit to the area, having visited one year prior for the same local race and some fun. We had previously stayed in a hotel but decided to try the local rentals. Of course we poured over a large amount of rentals and this one stuck out to us due the location and pictures. I must say, it was an absolutely perfect choice! The owner gave great communication throughout and all instructions were clear and helpful. Upon arrival, we were impressed with the curb appeal, privacy, and peacefulness. When we entered the home, again, we were impressed with how beautiful the home is and how well maintained it is. We were also greeted with freshly cut roses from the garden in the back as well as a wonderful basket filled with fruit, candy, bread, etc. It was truly welcoming and made us feel right at home. Having stayed at a number of rental homes through VRBO, I loved that this home allows you to leave whatever groceries or supplies you have bought while there instead of just throwing away everything. In my opinion, this allows new guests the opportunity to have access to things like water or whatever upon arrival instead of running right out to get items as well as not being wasteful of perfectly good items. Love this! The home itself, well let me just say, the pictures, although lovely, simply don't do justice to the actual home. All amenities we could need were there including towels, toiletries, linens, etc. The beds were comfortable and each room was inviting. I had a tiny bit of concern about no central air being from south Texas but I needn't have worried. We followed the instructions of opening the windows in the evening around 6 or so and utilized the provided fans and found ourselves chilly at night and in the mornings and quite comfortable during the day with everything closed up. Although I must admit to not spending a lot of time in the home during the day since there were so many activities to do nearby including the numerous wineries. It was nice to return after a day of activity and find ourselves in such a comfortable and peaceful environment without the hustle and bustle of a hotel or any exterior noise to disturb us. Although it seems to sit in its own little oasis, it is like 5 miles from the 101 with easy access to all of the activities. We enjoyed the back patio. The hummingbird feeder, view, flowers, and fresh tomatoes were a bonus. Love this place! You can't go wrong staying here! I recommended it highly!
