Come ride in our beautiful mountains at Biltmore Estate or Dupont! Our lovely, farmhouse has the most beautiful mountain views and the constant babble of North Turkey Creek. We can accommodate 2 horses in safely fenced 60' by 200' paddock with a 3 sided shelter. Storage and parking for your truck, trailer and supplies is ample. The house is fully and tastefully furnished and is equipped; just bring your personal items and food for your stay. The cottage is located on the non-profit, Hope for Horses, grounds so you can meet our unwanted, yet rehabbing horses during your stay. There is a lovely deck to grill or relax on and the floor plan is open with lots of light.
My family and I own Hope for Horses which is the local Equine Rescue, Rehab and Adoption facility that operates in WNC.
Whitney Wright and Lee Sullivan purchased this farmhouse in 1994
This was a very nice location in the mountains. Wonderful scenic views from the deck. all along the driveway are horses and corals. The house is nice and clean and well stocked with pots pans, knives and matching dishes. The bathroom had towels and the beds were nice and comfy. Table and chairs on the deck to enjoy your morning coffee over looking all the corals with the horses and a wonderful view of the mountains. Get ready to unplug. There is a large selection of music and movies, but no TV or cell service(only on rare occasions did my phone work on Sprint network, but no one else in our groups phones worked). There is WIFI so you can connect to internet. I brought my tablet, but which I would have brought my laptop as we could have watched the football game on the internet. Otherwise bring your toiletries and your clothes and your all set. It is a great place to really relax and get away from all the hustle and bustle of city life. Thanks Whitney and Lee for a lovely stay.
The pictures on the website don't do it justice . It has a spectacular view and is set in the middle of a horse farm . The owners are in location and very friendly . The house itself is comfy and cheerful . Asheville is about 30 minutes away . The only drawback (and the reason I didn't give this place 5 stars) is that all the windows but one were painted shut so you couldn't get any fresh air. This seems like a very fixable problem and one I alerted the owners to, so expect it will be remedied soon. But overall a great place ..we will be back !
This property was beautiful, relaxing and exactly what we were looking for. Traveling with my fiance, our dog and two friends for a "couples weekend," we couldn't have asked for a better place to enjoy each others company. The house includes a large porch, which my 1 1/2 year old lab puppy enjoyed very much, overlooking the mountains and watching the horses.
The house is cozy, comfortable and perfect if looking for an escape from reality. Downtown Asheville was about 25-30 minutes away, not a bad drive at all. Spent a day exploring the Blue Ridge parkway. There are local grocery stores nearby, if looking for more variety, a larger grocery store is about a 15-20 minute drive.
All I can say is that if you are looking for peace, relaxation and comfort... this is the place to be for a fair price. I loved that I could bring my pup along to enjoy the trip as well.
Top TEN reasons to stay here:
10) The home is comfortable and charming and has everything you need for an overnight or week-long stay (2 bed/1 bath).
9) The mountain and valley views and the bucolic scenery are idyllic and peaceful.
8) There is a great cafe nearby (Turkey Creek Cafe) and Addison Farms Vineyard is 4.8 miles away.
7) It is a great place for kids of all ages.
6) The owners are very friendly and helpful and happy to show visitors around the farm and introduce the horses.
5) The price point is better than you will find anywhere in the area for the quality and space available.
4) It is only about a 25 minute drive into downtown Asheville.
3) The home is part of the Hope for Horses non-profit - a horse rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption program.
2) The area is beautiful enough to warrant two spots on a top 10 list - it's gorgeous!
1) When you sit out on the deck at night, all you hear is the quiet lull of animal noises in the distance and all you see are billions of the brightest stars above you in the dark country night.
We loved our stay - three adults, 1 six-year-old, and 1 five-month-old. We will be returning!
This property was great and the owners could not have been more accommodating. Booking was seamless and we loved sitting out on the deck and watching the rescued horses grazing, along with wild rabbits and turkeys that greeted us on the way in and out as well. The owners were also very accommodating when we had to add a pet to our already confirmed reservation last minute. Just a few things that I would share to make it even better. We came prepared with GPS but there is little to no cellphone service in the area and without an updated GPS this place was pretty difficult to find. There is a fork in the road where you have to keep left (instincts would tell you to keep right to stay on the same road) to get to the property and there is little signage to guide your way. I would suggest maybe providing driving directions off of the main road to get the guests there easily, as once you're in the area you probably won't have phone service/internet to reach out for help and the locals didn't provide much assistance in locating the place for the other part of our party who got lost trying to find the place after dark. Also I wouldn't recommend for families with mobile infants as it is pet friendly, and as such our crawling infant picked up alot of random pet and other hairs crawling on what appeared to the naked eye to be a clean carpet. But even so, the main bedroom shares a wall with the living room (it's a partial wall so does not go all the way to the ceiling) so that limits the noise/light you can have in the main living area while the young ones are trying to fall asleep. All in all though these are small concerns. It's a nice area with civilization/Asheville a short (20/25 minute) drive away and we'd be happy to rent from these owners again if returning to the area.
It takes a second to get to the house from Asheville proper, but it's easy to find after the first trip there. This property was great for my toddler. Instead of being cooped up in a hotel room, he had plenty of room to run, stomp and play inside the house.
We used the kitchen to make an easy supper the first night we were there and found all the kitchen utensils and tools we needed. We did have to keep the little fella out of the lower cabinets where the lighter fluid and charcoal were stored. That one seemed to be his favorite cabinet for some reason.
The house is bright and cheerful. We enjoyed our calm mornings and had the essential cup of coffee on the deck, complete with views of the hills and horses. *some full size coffee mugs would make it even better. Those tiny tea cups only hold a couple of swigs. The little guy enjoyed tasting the mint that was growing up through the deck slats.
It was nice seeing the horses, knowing that they have been saved from lives that weren't great, and are now being cared for.
Tips: Be careful at night, when using the gate keypad! I stuck my hand in the housing to push in the code and a bird flew out of the box and into the car. It was terrifying for all of us, including the bird, but a funny story to remember. Just shine your phone on the keypad before you stick your hand in to enter the code. Take house shoes as the hosts would like to keep the carpet clean and request that you take your shoes off in the entryway. Don't expect to have cell phone service. There is wifi, though. My iPad wouldn't find it, but my husband was able to use it on his laptop.
Overall, it was a nice trip and we're glad we stayed at this house instead of a hotel room for the same price. I only spoke to Whitney, but she was always pleasant.
