About Ed Wright

My name is Ed Wright, my wife, Julie and I have operated a Real Estate residential sales company in Orange County, California for many years and we have enjoyed this home as our private vacation home. Recently we have decided to convert the home to a vacation rental. You will find the home is very warm and friendly. This is still home to us and we plan to use it when ever available.

Ed Wright purchased this cabin in 2001

Why Ed Wright chose Boulder Bay

We bought this vacation home because of its ideal location. The privacy and the views were very important to us

What makes this cabin unique

The distinctive logged exterior and warm wood interior along with its panoramic lake and mountain views along with the secluded location on a private street made this the ideal choice for our vacation home. The interior has been decorated with leather couches and Deer and Antelope trophies to create the mountain adventure atmosphere.

Note. Due to our current drought, the water level in the lake has gone down and along with that is our lake view.

Guestbook comments from the manager

I greatly appreciate your review and extend our invitation to visit again in the winter. We typically get snow and the roads to our private home are plowed for easy access. Your suggestions are being taken care of. We take great pride in our vacation home and providing a first class retreat for our guests.

Beautiful cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 3 couples and 3 kids under the age of 6 and the set up was perfect for all of us! The cabin itself was beautiful and located in a great spot near the lake. We will definitely be coming back again next year, if not sooner!

Perfect cabin if you know what to expect!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is great if you know what to expect and don't have unrealistic expectations. Are the bedroom TV's dated? Yes. Is the spiral staircase steep? Yes. Is this a luxury cabin? Not quite. But is it clean, comfortable, furnished, and able to provide the perfect deck for morning coffee or a BBQ? 100% yes! And that is what we did. Who goes to the mountains to watch TV anyway?

We loved the view, even with other cabins nearby. You are still in the woods and it feels as such. The kitchen had all the tools we needed for our BBQ dinner, but if you like a sharp knife bring your own set (we did). The spa was clean and hot with a great view of the stars at night if you leave the deck lights off. And for what it is worth, the spiral staircase is actually quite fun and provided for some laughter as we descended to the bedrooms after a few drinks. There is a gate at the top so you can lock it off from the little ones.

The location is a good 5-10 minute drive from the main part of town, but we liked the seclusion. We Ubered into town one night without a problem so we could avoid parking and have a designated driver, it was about a $7 ride.

The only flaw in my mind is not having access to the garage. When we go to the mountains we bring toys. This trip we had mountain bikes with nowhere to really keep them locked up other than locking them to a deck post. Sometimes we bring dirt bikes too, and this would not be suitable for that with no garage to use to lock them in. But I understand the owners like having their own locked space.

Overall we had a great stay and would stay here again for a weekend.

Owner's Response: This is the type of reviews that are appreciated by future guests and myself, the owner! Yes the TV's in the bedrooms are old, but are there for the kids and adults to watch a full assortment of DVDs and VCRs. We even have old Disney VCRs. The spiral staircase is functional and works well. This is used to access the two downstairs bedrooms. They can also be accessed from the outside stairs. We take pride in the interior décor with leather couches along with an actual wood burning fireplace for atmosphere and warmth. Beverly Hills luxury, it is not! Thanks for letting us know about the sharp knives. Next time we are up to enjoy our vacation home and bring out our personal belongings from the garage we will take special care to sharpen all of the knives. Thanks for the great 5 star review. See you soon.

It was ok.

  • 3 of 5

Nice place but causes a lot of stress on what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation. Not sure what to expect of Big Bear rentals after this trip. So we get there and there is broken part of the railing with a nail sticking straight up outside. Broken beer bottles and trash all over the backyard. No lights on the lower deck to use jacuzzi or patio furniture after sunset. BBQ did not work so we hadn’t to cook our burgers and carne inside. Panels were missing from the sliding glass doors so it was impossible to sleep as soon as the sun came up. One door was locked and there was no way to get it open I’m assuming was a fire hazard since there were no windows in the room so we had called it in to be fixed along with everything else except for the grill we were to hungry to wait to see if it could be fixed. I would not say this place is secluded. You can see all neighbors homes and yards as they can you. Windows down stairs in the bar which we did not use thanks to the “use at your own risk” staircase do not have locks on them. Property manager came out day one and corrected everything he could in a timely manner. This place needs new light bulbs as some don’t match or were burnt out. Very dim in the living room and master at night. Lots of room for improvement but decorated nicely.

Owner's Response: Sorry for your disappointments! As the owner that is not local and depends on our local property manager we were very upset by this series of events and inadequacies. Once we came aware of them we immediately spent 4 days at the cabin and inspected/repaired all of the problems mentioned. In addition, we have contracted to have new wood flooring installed throughout the main level and am repainting the exterior of the cabin. This is our vacation home and we take great pride in its appearance and functionality. The previous winter months were very busy at our cabin with multiple vacation guests, some of which were very disrespectful and destructive. Thank you bringing these problems to our attention and we will do a better job in the future to make sure our guests have a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
