About the property

Welcome! Owls Head is the perfect place to stay for all you want to do on the midcoast. If you want to beach comb, fish, hike, swim, boat, or just explore this beautiful area, this house is an excellent choice. Great restaurants, shopping, art galleries, and museums are within a couple of miles. The Owls Head Transportation Museum is just around the corner and majestic Owls Head Light a few miles away. Close to everything, yet off the beaten path, this house provides it all, peace and solitude, and accessibility to anything you desire.

Completely renovated in 2013 this house exudes peace and tranquility. Located at the end of a private lane, it is close to Birch Point State Park and it's lovely beach. Professionally decorated with a beach vibe, you will instantly feel relaxed when you walk through the door. With all new furniture, kitchen cabinets, and bathrooms, this home is a dream to call your own, even if it is just for a week!

With its open layout, the living area is a wonderful place to relax and plan or talk about your daily adventures. The cook friendly kitchen is fully equipped with new appliances and cookware. There is also a new gas grill just outside the glass doors of the dining room. Pick up some fresh fish or lobster at Jess's Market (just a couple of miles away) to cook for dinner tonight! Just off the kitchen is the sunny dining room. It will invite you to linger over meals, enjoying the view of the lawn and woods beyond. It is common to see deer grazing in the morning and evenings. Just outside the dining room there is a screened gazebo to lengthen your days and outside enjoyment.

The bedroom layout was well thought out with privacy in mind. When you enter the master suite you will feel the calming affect of the decor. A comfortable king bed awaits, and down a private hall with well designed built in closets, you will find the large master bath.

The two other bedrooms are nicely separated from the master suite by a small den. One of the bedrooms features a queen bed, the other twin beds. Both with plenty of storage so you can unpack and make yourself at home. Looking out over the backyard, they offer pretty decor and privacy. You may even glimpse the deer in the morning!

The den with its comfortable couch is a great place for the kids to hang out or as a quiet place to tuck yourself away. The couch has a pullout bed making it a possibility for extra sleeping space.

The second full bath is located down the hall from the living room. It has a lovely tub shower with rain shower head.

The living room and den have new televisions with satellite. The house is equipped with wifi throughout.

The laundry center is located down one flight of stairs.

Leave your cares at home, come to Owls Head, visit a working fishing village and all the beauty the midcoast has to offer. Your vacation will be one you'll remember forever.

Immaculate home, pleasant stay, highly recommended.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay immensely. Tastefully and relaxingly decorated. Everything seems new. Immaculately clean in every respect. Huge living room plus den, both with huge TVs, plus three bedrooms provide plenty of enjoyable space. Also, dining room and gazebo, and deer sited in backyard. Our last day: flock of turkeys ambled through the yard. Convenient laundry in basement. Nor far from all that Rockland has to offer, as well as closer to Owls Head General Store and lighthouse, and 'Keag Store.

Awesome place to stay on a vacation to Down East Maine!

  • 5 of 5

In 2018 we stayed for the second year in a row at this lovely house in Owl's Head. It is located "off the beaten path" resulting in a quiet, relaxing experience, but is also just minutes from downtown Rockland (to the North) and Thomaston (to the South) and the beach at Birch Point State Park (to the East). The house is immaculate, with all the amenities you need for a seamless stay. James is a considerate, responsive host who was very attentive to ensuring our stay was the best it could be. We can't wait to return in 2019!

Beautiful Home!

  • 4 of 5

The pictures do no justice for this home. Everything inside, flooring, furniture, cabinets, paint, fixtures, feels new, clean, and high-end. The property is impeccably maintained, inside and out.

The location is convenient, easy to find, and less than 2 miles from downtown Rockland, which was great, considering our trip coincided with Lobsterfest. We also made several day trips (Bar Harbor, Boothbay, etc.) which were an easy and beautiful drive from this location.

The beds are comfortable, and there were plenty of linens, towels, paper products, etc. The closets are awesome!!

The kitchen is stocked with essential appliances, utensils, plates, etc. We've stayed at other homes that offer a pantry with basic supplies, such as coffee, tea, sugar, creamer, condiments, snacks, etc. which was very convenient. Something like that would be a great addition here.

Lots of knickknacks. We moved several into the cabinets for fear of breaking them, but that was no big deal.

Unfortunately, the weather was unseasonably hot during our visit, and the home has no air conditioning or central air circulation (nor is it advertised to have them). Despite opening the windows and running all 3 stand fans, it was uncomfortably warm most of the time. I know this is a rare circumstance in coastal Maine and we were just unlucky with the weather. Hopefully, the airflow can be improved with some low-cost additions such as bedroom ceilings fans, and/or a whole-house attic fan.

During our stay, the owners stayed on the property in a camper that is set up behind a detached garage about 50 feet away from the house. We were not aware of this until the day we arrived, and to be honest, it really impacted the privacy and the relaxation we were expecting from the description in the listing. On a few occasions, the owner opened and entered the attached garage and the basement (through a separate stairway from the attached garage) unannounced, while we were inside. We also noticed that they accessed the basement to do their laundry while we were away. I'm sure it was all innocent, but nonetheless it was unsettling for us and our children. I think a less casual policy for entering the house would be beneficial for everyone.

Bottom line, this is an exceptional property with very good owners. Hopefully, the issues we encountered can be improved for future guests. We wish nothing but the best for the owners' success, and extend our sincere gratitude for their hospitality. Thank you!

Very nice vacation spot

  • 4 of 5

Overall, we had a very good experience at this property and would stay there again. The location is perfect - close to Rte 1 and Rockland, but quiet enough that you feel like you're out in the country. Right around the corner from the Owls Head Transportation Museum & Breakwater Vineyards. House is very bright, clean and modern. Spacious too. We appreciated that the house was well stocked and we did not need to buy spices, paper products, detergent, etc. during our stay. TV & wifi worked great, as did all kitchen appliances. The owner is pretty fastidious and detailed in his instructions (which is probably how the property stays so clean!) Renters with small children should take note that there are many objects throughout the living areas that children are not to touch. Also, a relative of the owner stayed elsewhere on the property during our stay (not in the main house). This person was extremely pleasant and fairly unobtrusive but we found it surprising that this detail was not mentioned in any other reviews. All in all, though, we were happy with our visit.

Duxbury , Mass.

A beautiful home , located 5 minutes from Rockland , Maine.

  • 4 of 5

All wonderful amenities , and all the latest of facilities. Every thing in the house was brand new and it was a pleasure to stay there. There were many beautiful sculptures and arrangements in every room. While nice to look at , I could see there could be a problem with a family with small children. Some lounge chairs for the front patio would be a nice touch. All in all , a wonderful property with a very helpful host.

This is a lovely, quaint home at the end of a cul-de-sac that is adorned with seasonal flowers. The main picture does not do justice to the home. It is surrounded by wooded area and has a gazebo for a fun place to eat, hang out and watch nature. We grilled out and the children enjoyed their private eating area in the gazebo and the massive lawn for yard play. The wild turkeys were fun to watch early in the morning. We were all amazed at how clean the home was. The layout is great for housing more than one generation, as our kids and grandkids stayed off the den while we were in the master, allowing all of us all our own space. Our only wish would be for a king size (rather than the queen size) bed in the secondary bedroom for comfort of all the adults. The main living area is large which allowed plenty of room for the grandkids to play. The location was very convenient to the beach, sightseeing and visiting with our family in Rockland. We hope we are lucky enough for the home to be available when we return in 2 years for our family reunion! James, thank you for everything!
