North Admiral two bedroom penthouse apartment with great city view and 700 sq foot roof top deck. This is a great apartment with two levels of living space. It has a private Master Bedroom with a queen bed and a separate bedroom with a set of bunk beds and living space with a hide-a-bed couch (full bed) and view of the city.
The kitchenette has a 2 burner cooktop, microwave oven, fridge and freezer as well as a full washer/dryer. There is an extra mini fridge on the roof level. This apartment has a lot of space. Apartment is on the 4th and 5th floors with no elevator, so you need to be okay with stairs...but the view is more than worth it.
Modern bathroom has large walk-in shower with dual heads and upscale finishes. Small dogs okay with a deposit.
Wi-Fi is in the building as well as an art gallery, organic coffee shop and beer & wine lounge. This is a premier location, close to awesome local shops, upscale grocery stores like Metropolitan Market and PCC, Alki Beach. It is only a short drive or bus ride to Downtown Seattle and Airport.
Within one block of an Aveda Spa, Anytime Fitness and only a few miles from West Seattle Golf Course and Alki Tours for paddle boarding and kayaking.
We are both working artists.
J Conrad Nivens is originally from Wisconsin and moved out West to attend Cornish College of the Arts and pursue his career in fine art.
Krystal Kelley is a writer and an artist originally from Seattle. A University of Washington grad, Krystal spent her early career in video production then transitioned into real estate and interior design. She now solely works on art and writing while raising our two daughters.
Together, J and Krystal have founded a non-profit foundation that works to get art back into education. The Mind Unwind Foundation works with local schools as well as community art projects.
Krystal Kelley purchased this apartment in 2011
We love this property for its unique location at the very North end of West Seattle. It is perched above Alki Beach for optimum views and the roof top deck really captivated us.
The roof deck does not get any better and the modern amenities make it very efficient. It is a 4-star energy building and because sustainability is very important to us as well as a welcoming community, this is a beautiful apartment to visit or live :)
Perfect for what we needed in Seattle! Awesome views from the deck, very cool art throughout the house, and great neighborhood. Small shops and cafe's close by!
There's a lot about this place that would make it lovely in the summertime. The deck is clearly nice and has a grill and a dining area, and the view is great. I'd imagine in good weather it would be a pleasure. But the description of the space is somewhat unclear, and the outside deck turned out to be the ONLY common space, and the only table. As we were there in the winter, we had no idea going in that there was nowhere to sit for meals of any sort.
Other issues also came up because of the description, which describes this as an apartment. It's not, really. It's two rooms and a bathroom (nice bathroom, to be sure). It DOESN'T have a "two burner cooktop and a convection oven," it has a hotplate and a microwave, and if you run them together it blows a fuse. The Wifi broke down and the fuse blew over the time we were there. The owners were helpful in getting those things fixed, but they were a sizeable hassle.
Also, there's a hidden charge for parking - ten bucks a day if you want to park in the space by the building. When we got home and asked to be discounted this cost for our stay due to the Wifi breaking down and the fuse blowing, the response I got was that we "should have asked for that before checking out" and the owner didn't see how asking for the discount was related to the problems and issues we had while we were there.
Initially, I thought the owners were quite nice, and they own and operate a lovely organization over there. But they aren't really at all open to the fact that they are unclear in their description of the space, nor are they thoughtful about the experience of their guests.
This is a great place. We really enjoyed it. It is close to the airport, close to downtown, and we liked Admiral so much we didn't go downtown. The neighbourhood is full of restaurants and is a nice place to walk or run. There is a cool coffee shop/bar/bistro on the first floor of the building so that is nice as well. Great local coffee shop next door. There is a whole foods type grocery store around the corner and two blocks away is a Safeway. The rooftop deck has two gas grills, a picnic table, and chairs. It also has great views of downtown Seattle across the bay. There is a water taxi at the bottom of the hill (about 1.5k) which in the winter only runs a limited schedule to downtown (morning and evening). In the summer, it runs more often.
Apparently, there are buses to downtown as well but I have a bus thing so I didn't try it (and we had a car). It took us about 20 minutes to drive to the Sheraton Downtown for my presentation. Same coming back. Rush hour we avoided as it appeared difficult. SEA airport was about 25 minutes off peak. It took 35 when we left at rush hour in the morning.
The roof deck has room for a huge party if you are so inclined.
The location was quiet and private. Two TVs with cable and a huge DVD collection were also available.
The Bad: (and none of this is BAD, just details)
The apartment has "two" bedrooms but only one is a bedroom. The other is a living room/kitchen access with two bunk beds and a sleeper sofa. There was a roll away bed on the stairs going up to the deck that I guess two people could sleep on ok in the stairway?
There is only one bathroom, so if you are planning to put 6-8 people here, it may get a little crowded.
The kitchen has a hotplate, a mini fridge, and a sink. It is a galley kitchen, so massive cooking projects may be difficult (there are lots of places to get food just by walking). My only actual complaint with the whole place was that they only had one tiny (think Barbie house) ice tray but I don't really use ice very often so again, no big deal.
You have to walk up two flights of stairs from the private entrance. There is no lift, so it would not be a good choice for someone who is challenged by stairs. They are not steep or difficult though and my friend, who is a bit infirm, had no problem with it.
They have a parking space that is reserved (you want it if you have a car) for 10$. It is just behind the building and very convenient.
Great location with a beautiful rooftop patio. We really enjoyed our stay! The only thing I would say is that it was very tight for 5 people.
I enjoyed my stay at the North Admiral Penthouse. This was a very quiet and convenient space. It is marvelous for rest and rehabilitation and just "hanging out." Krystal was exceptionally helpful in responding to all of my questions. The view from the deck was just great. The immediate neighborhood was great. Within 3 short blocks were two supermarkets with at least one having a great deli. There was a nice Starbucks. Overall all, I greatly enjoyed this space and would love to do it again on my next visit to Seattle.
though the apartment is small, it is well equipped. the rooftop saved the day with providing a breeze through out the house during a heat wave and an awesome view after sunset. It could use more comfortable chairs and an umbrella on the roof so it can be used even more! Krystal was helpful when we had questions and we happened on to the best bartender ever at the Treehouse while we were there.
We are located in the historical Admiral District in West Seattle. We have many restaurants, a historical theater, walk to Alki Beach, close to all amenities and we offer a private rooftop deck that has a premier 360 degree view from Mount Rainier, to Downtown Seattle all the way to the Olympic Mountains.
