About Kate Sandman
My husband and I bought Mar'TEE'ni Dreams for our future retirement and have spent many hours renovating it and adding the touches that we would want to see in a vacation home. We love the desert because it is filled with friendly people, has sunshine year round and is a wonderful escape from Big City life. We love it so much here that we purchased a second home, which we are currently renovating.
Kate Sandman purchased this House in 2009
Why Kate Sandman chose Magnesia Falls Cove
Everyone loves our pool and lush desert landscaping. The views from the garden spa are terrific -- especially at Happy Hour -- and we love watching the wild birds who frequent our newly landscaped desert garden and bird baths. The location cannot be beat -- we are 3-5 minutes from all conveniences, including restaurants, groceries, pharmacies, Target.
What makes this House unique
Everyone remarks on our beautiful ocotillos, which are a type of tall desert cactus which bloom in orange red flowers during the year. Our gardeners say they are the largest they have ever seen, at least 50 years old! Oh, and our location is awesome!

Nice house in a quiet neighborhood
This house fit our needs pretty well. It's in a very nice, quiet neighborhood. If you're looking to party (which we were not thanks to our kids lol), you should look somewhere else. The property was well kept and clean and both the pool and hot tub were clean and warm. They even had some baby gear, which was a welcome bonus for us. I'd say the only down side was a mattress which was somewhat worn and bowed into the middle. Otherwise, we'd stay here again!
Nice place but NO music allowed
This place is very clean and comfortable enough for a couple of families with kids to have their own space. Great location, close to "the River" mall and 5-10 min from the strip. The owner was very nice and booking was easy. However, she also lives next door so you may not have the privacy you came for. The BIGGEST problem was not allowing music even at a low level, and sending texts saying she can hear it. There werent even people staying in other houses next to us. My wife was stressing the whole time that we would get evicted if I turned my small speaker on, even on low. If Rancho Mirage has a "music ordinance", it should be listed clearly before booking, and that shouldnt mean you cant listen to comfortable level in your own backyard during the afternoon. We found out the day before leaving so it was too late to book something else. We didn't come out to Palm Springs to stay inside of the house and not listen to music by the pool. Secondly, I found it curious that the first morning we received a call letting us know the HVAC repair person was coming by on a Saturday during Memorial Day Weekend? Uh, can’t that wait until Monday after 11am when we leave? We still had a nice time and just wish we could listen to music at the pool.
I am glad that Michelle's family liked the house. They were excited to come, as it was a last minute booking for a holiday weekend. I believe it was my fault that they didn't get the rental agreement which outlines in detail all of the house rules, including the City's noise ordinance. However, Michelle and I had a conversation immediately after she booked in which she asked if their friends could come over to the pool during the day. I told her yes, what the maximum number of people on property is and then reinforced the noise ordinance details in particular because there would be more people around the pool. She tried to obtain my permission for her husband's speakers, and I made clear that I couldn't tell her to violate City Ordinance. Unfortunately they ignored the rule and tried to ignore me until I finally went over to deal with it face to face. Our guests only see us when they invite us or when it is required . . .
Regarding the HVAC maintenance: we had been on a list to get a defective part replaced under warranty, and the contractor finally called to say he was coming over. We would rather know that our guests will have reliable AC on a hot summer day than put it off and have a problem. We will always do our utmost to ensure our guests have a great experience, and as you can see from other reviews, 99.9% of our guests love us, our house and can't wait to come back!
Perfect property for our family holiday. Great location, lots of space, clean & very comfortable.
We spent 5 nights at the house...and didn't want to leave! Perfect central location in the valley. Quiet area. We loved the stunning views from the back, watching the sunrise...beautiful. our 3 children, 10, 10 & 9 loved the pool and outside area. Kate, the owner was very helpful and welcoming. Visiting from Northern Ireland we just wish the Mar'Ten'ni house was a little bit closer to home. Kids loved Pieology Pizza at The Rivers and Lulu California in Palm Springs. Would also recommend Smoke Tree Stables and Thousand Palms Oasis. Amazing trip...hope to return someday.
Paradise in the Desert
We can't make enough positive comments about this fabulous vacation home! It was exactly as pictured, clean, equipped with everything we needed and more! We thoroughly enjoyed the pool and hot tub, as well as the lovely backyard landscaping. The location is convenient to good restaurants and shopping and we were easily able to walk to The River from the house. The owners are very responsive and accessible, making for a worry-free vacation.
peaceful and gracious accommodations!
The house has plenty of space, is super clean, and has a great pool area with a hot tub. The owner is friendly and available for questions. The kitchen has everything you might need, and there is a bright breakfast area right off the kitchen.
The area is PERFECT for a quiet family retreat. It is in a nice mid century neighborhood right off the 111 and very close to shops like Whole Foods, the River mall and Target.
Great location, attentive owners, well managed property in a quiet close in area.
Overall we enjoyed the peace and quiet of a nice family neighborhood, that was close in and easy to find your way around. The pool was great, the yard well maintained and a real attempt by the owners to help make your stay a pleasant one.
The desert has so many activities year round -- everything from food and wine and music festivals to professional golf and tennis tournaments. We are also well known for film festivals and the annual Modernism Week, showcasing the best of modern design, architecture, clothing and jewelry. So many choices, so little time!!
