About the property

One Bedroom One Bath

Perfect for one or two people to enjoy the country quiet while being close to the beach and all the activities of Harbor Country.

A free-standing, townhouse style condo.

Climb the ladder (or take the private exterior stairway that wraps around the unit) to the top floor loft bedroom (& deck), featuring a queen size bed and terrific third-floor farm views. Walk out onto the sunny deck to read a book, sunbathe or enjoy the evening sunsets. No noisy party rentals or screaming kids here!

Steps away from the farm's picnic area and labyrinth.

If you want peace and quiet, like hiking, biking, and relaxing on a beach, visiting the shops in Harbor Country, or the wineries and breweries, or just hanging out, this is for you. Visit the Tryon Farm, IN, website to learn more about the farm and community.

Totally renovated, Modern Country Hideaway is the perfect get-away for one or two people for a weekend or extended stay. Only 60 miles from Chicago and 1.5 miles to the Lake Michigan beaches.

About scott franzen

Originally from the Midwest, and now living in New Hampshire, we've always enjoyed returning to the Michiana area for a stay by the lake. Here, we're not on top of neighboring houses or noisy family reunions.

scott franzen purchased this condo in 2013

Why scott franzen chose Michigan City

This is our pied-a-terre- just the right size for a week-long quiet, private and restful retreat. Contemporary with quality materials, and our own private deck. Nothing like a walk in the woods on the farm.

What makes this condo unique

Tryon Farm is a one of a kind location- only 1/2 mile from the beach and a mile from parking, yet seemingly miles away from the rowdy noisy beach house rentals right on top of each other.

Quaint Country Loft

  • 5 of 5

The property was clean and modern as described. Arrival instructions were easy and Scott even provided some suggestions on places to eat (loved Bridges!). It was quiet and peaceful. Loved spending the evenings on the deck with some drinks. It's fairly close to the wineries in Michigan, as well as some great restaurants.

Peaceful and comfortable

  • 4 of 5

The house is very modern with quality appliances, fixtures and decor. The farm is quiet and we loved the birdsong all day long. I did find the access to the 2d floor bedroom by ladder to be an minor inconvenience. I tried it once to make sure I could use it if necessary, but I used the outside stairs the remainder of the stay. This is the only reason I do not give this rental 5 stars. The dinner suggestions provided by the hosts were helpful and we particularly liked Brewsters Italian Restaurant in New Buffalo. It is an exceptional find and value. The owners generously provided a bottle of wine from the Shady Creek Winery which is just down the road from the farm. We enjoyed a tasting at this winery and several others in the Baroda area. The home is convenient to Michigan City and New Buffalo attractions.

Amazing, quiet modern hidden getaway for 2!

  • 5 of 5

What a nice place! It was the perfect place for disconnecting from our daily routine. We loved all the natural light, modern amenities, and cozy minimalist feel. Hearing the roosters crowing in the distance was the best part for us. Reminded us of our stays in the country in Puerto Rico. The weather could have been better but the comfy couch, great coffee from the espresso machine, and free Netflix made the indoors a delight. It was fun to go up and down the ladder to get to the bedroom but it was a challenge for my wife when needing the restroom in the middle of the night. Tried two recommended eateries, Panini Panini & Bridges Waterside Grill and they did not disappoint. Great food! We even ordered a pasta to go from Panini Panini for dinner at the condo on Saturday night. Went well with the complimentary bottle of wine Scott left for us. Saturday the power went out in the entire area. We called Scott looking for candles. He mentioned a flashlight that we found. But just a few minutes later he arrived with a bag of candles for us. Very hospitable! It made for a romantic candlelight evening. All in all, we loved our weekend away at this country hideaway and look forward to returning in the future.

located on 170 acre Tryon Farm where you can hike, bike, explore and relax.

Off the farm there's way too much to do here. The beaches, superb restaurants, New Buffalo, the outlet mall, Shady Creek winery- literally hundreds of feet away, great bars entertainment. Visit Three Oaks, MI, with boutique stores, brew pub and distillery and art cinema. Antique stores line the Red Arrow highway, not to mention eating at the Red Arrow Roadhouse. Great beaches include Washington Park, New Buffalo and Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Ask for our secret recommendations.
