About Ken Lauderdale

We have been in the hospitality business for ten years. We have a Bed and Breakfast in Athens Ga called Fair Havens Plantation. This has been our get a way cabin for ten years and we have decided to put it on VRBO.

We hope you will enjoy it as much as we have with our children and grand kids.

Ken Lauderdale purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Ken Lauderdale chose Clayton

We have been riding horses in this area for twenty years and love the climate and beauty of the mountains. Rabun County is where spring spends the summer. Our elevation is 2,500 feet and usually 10 degree cooler.

What makes this cabin unique

We have loved this cabin because it is very private with great views. We are close to the national forest. We love the vaulted ceiling and wooded interior, and rock fire place. No drywall with rustic interior.

Great place. Very comfortable beds! Everything we needed for cooking and relaxing.

  • 4 of 5

This cabin is very nice! The beds were obviously considered when the owners decided to offer as a vacation property. There is a ton of space regarding sleeping arrangements and the mattresses are high quality and VERY comfortable. I was worried the window units wouldn’t keep things cool enough but they will freeze you out if you run them on high. There is a shower upstairs and downstairs but not on the main level which was different but not really an issue. There is a large garden tub. We were here to trout fish and the house is very close to the river. We were able to fish in the morning, come back in for meals and go back out in the afternoon. The neighbors dogs come for a visit whenever they smell the grill. They are very friendly although a bit skittish at first. I’m sure some aren’t as happy to have them around as we were but once they realized we were all dog people they were comfortable enough to nap on the deck and visit with us when we were out enjoying the deck area. The only thing I would say needs some consideration is the fire pit area. If someone falls off of it they will get seriously hurt. I’d be very careful with kids and older less balanced folks. There is nothing between you and about a 20 foot drop. All of that said, there was nothing to keep us from coming back again next year. Thanks Ken for a very comfortable and relaxing stay!

Family time

  • 4 of 5

thanks so much Ken and Linda for sharing your cabin. I was so happy there was only 1 tv in the place--that gave us time to play games and do things together. We had a wonderful time at the cabin as well as at Lake Burton and the Dillard House and stables.

Cozy and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This hilltop cabin is cozy and comfortable. There is plenty of parking and the kitchen is very well stocked. Plenty of porches for relaxing! The hall bath on the main floor did not have a shower, but we shared and it was fine. The owner was very accessible and helpful. A great place for a family vacation!

Private Family Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I really enjoyed the views and coziness of this cabin. If it were up to me, I would have sat in the rocking chair on the balcony all day long. Its definitely a place that will bring your family closer while enjoying the fresh breeze or after a day of hiking and Lake Burton. Ken gives great recommendations and makes sure you are well accommodated for your stay.
