Overview

About the property

Water-front 3 bedroom, 2 bath cabin as comfortable as home.

Our Creekside Lodge is definitely the favorite large families & groups looking to explore the New River Valley or just relax together and be one with the mountains. With plenty of room inside & out for entertaining, it's proximity to the creek is unparalleled.

**Don't forget to check out our Walker Creek Retreat website for more information on on-site activities and current specials!!**

The Creekside is fully-furnished and has central heat & air. Bed linens & bath towels are provided. The full kitchen includes a dishwasher, coffee maker, microwave, dishes, pots & pans, and utensils. The indoor dining room has a great view of the creek and seats 8. There is additional seating in the game room for 4. The front living room overlooks the deck/creek and the back living area has a gas fireplace & satellite TV/DVD and large sectional sofa & chair. And, we now offer limited WIFI access (meaning basic internet browsing & checking emails, NO live streaming is allowed due to our limited satellite internet data capabilities.)

The Creekside will sleep up to 10 comfortably. Sleeping arrangements include a queen bed in the master bedroom (attached bath), a queen and twin/twin bunk in bedroom 2, and a double/twin bunk and a twin bed in bedroom 3 (share a bath). Please note that our bunk beds are made to sleep adults - no child-sized beds here! :)

While the inside is terrific, the outdoor features are what really make the Creekside Lodge so special. The 1000 sq ft deck overlooking the creek is perfect for outdoor meals and has plenty of seating for gathering, too. There is also a "lovers" swing where you can both face the creek or flip one seat around and gaze into each others' eyes while hardly noticing the babbling brook in the background. While there are 2 other cabins on the property, each has it's very own charcoal grill and fire ring and with over a half-mile of creek frontage, there is plenty of stream for you to explore.

About New River Outdoor Co.

The Stoudenmires opened for business out of the first floor of their home in Pearisburg, VA in the spring of 2004. Initially, they offered canoe and kayak rentals and guided smallmouth trips on the New River, as well as two cabin rentals on their newly purchased 50-acre property on Walker Creek. They soon added to their cabin rental line-up by building the Bear Foot Cabin which opened for rental at the beginning of the 2008. The increasing demand for their guiding, outfitting and lodging services continued to grow so they built another cabin and moved their place of business to its current location in Pembroke, VA for the 2009 season.

Since moving their business to Pembroke, the Stoudenmires have built an additional log cabin (Anglers' Roost) and remodeled two rentals (including the Creekside Lodge). In 2013, they took a winter off from cabin projects and focused on expanding their family with the birth of their daughter, whose presence has since become the highlight of both our long-time & new visitors. In the fall of 2015, they embarked on their latest project, purchasing another 90-acres on Walker Creek, just upstream from their original location, and breaking ground on their Red Pine Cottage. It opened for rentals in June of 2016 and is the first in their new series of high-end vacation rentals they plan to unveil over the course of the next several years. Currently, Walker Creek Retreat encompasses five cabins and cottages offering guests a collection of unique, water-front lodging options in the New River Valley .

Why New River Outdoor Co. chose Virginia

Starting a marriage and business at the same time, from ground zero, was not an easy proposition. But with lots of prayers, patience and hard work, Britt & Leigh Stoudenmire have built their business and reputation in the tourism industry while establishing themselves as one of the top outfitters, guide services, and cabin retreats in Virginia. From the very beginning, the Stoudenmires have modeled their businesses by putting an emphasis on their clients' experience and providing quality services and have even received numerous awards for their work. They are excited about what the future holds and look forward to continuing to provide first-class recreational and lodging opportunities to those visiting the New River Valley.

What makes this cabin unique

The Creekside Lodge was the original house on the property and has undergone 3 remodels in the last 14 years. We love making updates and adding new features and we strive to make it as comfortable as home. A unique benefit of the Creekside Lodge is our ability to provide kayak rentals that are delivered right to your cabin and/or floats on the New River for either guided fishing excursions or self-guided canoe/kayak trips. We've been outfitting folks on the river and lodging families/groups in our cabins for 14 years and we like to think we have a special place that can't help but build lasting memories for you and yours as well.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Could not think of a better place to relax and enjoy family. This cabin is perfect! Everything we needed was at our fingertips. The cleaning lady deserves most of the credit. What a fantastic job she did and does. Hopefully in years to come we will be back. Thanks again for a well needed oasis!

Back again for our 4th time!!!

  • 5 of 5

When our son was attending Virginia Tech, we needed a place to accomodate our large family, and we fell in love with The Creekside Lodge!! Being that it is right on the water, includes use of the tubes so we could tube all week on the creek, and the fact that it is so remote... we couldn't help but come back again and again. Our family of 10 fit comfortably in the lodge and we have also had guests stay in their tents on the huge lawn by the firepit. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and willing to fix any small issues/problems that come up. When we stayed the first time, their was not cell phone service or WIFI available but this time, they had WIFI available...however our family prefers to disconnect from the real world and go off the grid for this precious family time together!!! We all sleep so peacefully when we are at Creekside and have TONS of funny stories and memories each time we stay. I would recommend this Retreat to anyone and everyone. Enjoy!!

Great location and lodge!

  • 4 of 5

Creekside Lodge was a great place for a get-away meetup! Three of us came from different directions and the location was great. A quiet setting along Walker Creek could not have been better and the lodge offered a clean and comfortable stay. The only thing that kept this from being a five-star rating was a series of issues that seem to have resulted from a neglect of common maintenance. The internet did not work the whole time we were there and although I suggested from the very start that it was not a Wi-Fi problem but a problem with obtaining an IP address it was not resolved before we left. After several attempts at changing out wireless equipment they finally agreed that it was an internet problem and not a Wi-Fi issue. Ordinarily, this would not have been a necessity for a get-away however there was no cell service most of the time at the location and internet would have provided a connection to the outside world and an opportunity to check out the area online. Other issues were the shower in the master bath was not functioning properly, the coffee maker needed to be replaced as it could not be programmed and took over 30 minutes to brew manually, and the ice maker in the refrigerator had an "out of order" sign on it. The guest information book had restaurant suggestions and the one we chose the first night turned out to be out of business. The alternative we chose was Palisades which was a great choice. We were able to live with the issues, but to achieve a five star rating, they need attention. I would consider a second chance based upon the location.

Owner's Response: Once again, Dave, thank you for your feedback. We are so glad you enjoyed the Creekside Lodge, the creek, and the area in whole. After 14 years of providing top-notch lodging in our area and since we do not live at the property we do heavily rely on our guests to let us know when common maintenance issues arise, especially during our busy season when turn-arounds are all back-to-back. So, while we wish Dave would have let us know of the issues while he was here, we thanked him for bringing them to our attention – it allowed us to get them corrected for the next guests. Again, we sincerely appreciate our guests’ comments, concerns, and accolades and have always strived to provide all who stay with us a beautiful place where they can feel at home (and the personal attention to be on call when situations do arise). Many Blessings, Britt & Leigh Stoudenmire

Even more amazing than we expected!

  • 5 of 5

Some college friends and I chose this cabin because it was located between us. We couldn't have picked a better place to relax and unwind. The cabin was much bigger than we'd anticipated, and it was well-equipped. The furniture was comfortable, the cabin was clean, and there was nothing to be desired. (If we had been there in warmer weather, I would have missed having a washing machine and dryer to wash towels and bathing suits.) We found the location to be beautiful, but you would definitely need a car to get around. We went three times in three days to the nearby Palisades restaurant. We are planning to return again as soon as possible.

Relaxing getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have stayed at Walker Creek Retreat for over a decade! We have come alone, for quiet retreat and relaxation, and with friends when we wanted to share our slice of heaven! As business owners, we have also taken clients for fishing and college football in the fall. Everyone who has ever visited with us loves it as much as we do! We return time and again, and always leave rested, refreshed and feeling a closer connection to nature. Sharing the beauty of the area with my children is such a treat!

Everything was neat, clean and operable. Having a working ice maker would be an asset, though.

  • 4 of 5

Having made many trips to this facility over the last 10 years it is obvious that it meets all of my needs and those of my fellow fishermen. Dining at the Palisades is always a treat in the evening, and the J&J Grocery provides a real flavor for country cooking. Very comfortable and quiet setting.

The fishing is excellent.
