We loved staying here!!! Hated to leave it. It was peaceful. It was very pet and kid friendly. It was a last minute get away and we couldn't have been more pleased. Wish we could rent it long term for the summer!!!!!!
Two seniors + dog stayed here for a week mid February. This is great for pets. It's not as fancy as the condos, but nicely decorated and comfortable. There are 15 stairs to enter the home. The door opens to a large open living space with a good size kitchen, a dining area, a sitting area, and two sofas for TV watching. One sofa is also a bed but we didn't use it. The furniture was comfortable. The refrigerator is a side by side with a water and ice dispenser. Appliances were nice and everything worked. It took us a while to figure out the main TV because it was set to the wrong input and had multiple remotes. Two bedrooms are separated by a bath. Nothing fancy but comfortable, plenty of hot water and fulfilled our needs. We only used one bedroom, the king. Floors are all tile. Plenty of towels but the sheets weren't great...that's the rental company's issue. The laundry is in a small room off the driveway and has nice large capacity appliances, with a second bath/shower in that room. It worked for the two of us but could be an issue for more people or if bad weather. There were plenty of electrical outlets. Had a flat screen TV in each bedroom and the living area w/DVD players. Has wifi that always worked (we streamed movies with the Amazonfire we brought with us). Nice view of the bay facing south so you get sun in the winter. The deck is nice size and wraps around three sides of the house so you can find a place in sun or shade. Seating was 3 loungers, three plastic chairs and a picnic table. There is an empty lot on each side of the house and the houses on the other side of the lots were both vacant. It's all residential with little traffic. We saw great blue herons almost daily. We didn't see any dolphins but saw ducks and other birds. The south deck steps abutt the deck to the dock so walking is easy. The yard is mostly sand with wild vegetation. If you walk two blocks west there is a short sandy access road that goes to a bench facing the big bridge over the pass. It's a great place to sit and watch the boats. Just a few blocks E on Canal Rd is a nice dog park next to Ships Harbor marina. Here are my recommendation for what to bring that wasn't provided:
Hair dryer, blanket or throw (there wasn't a blanket for the sofa bed), beach towels (nice for deck chairs), baby gate for entry door so you can leave it open and pet or children can't exit. The rental company was great to work with. We got free DVDs and other perks. Would stay here again.
Although. It on the Gulf the iew was very nice. We had issue with the AC on arrival and my husband couldn't figure out the TV but the agency was there in minutes to attend to the problems.
Nice, quiet street on the bay with beautiful view. The main house was nice, very roomy. Info was misleading regarding second bath. It was downstairs with no ac, not an actual part of the house. Close to everything we wanted to do but out if the traffic. The rental company was great at check in.
I thought I had submitted my review of this property right after we returned, but today as I was planning another trip to the beach, I didn't see it.
Great spot on water
Open living, dining & kitchen area
The yard is just depressing to look at
The pier is in terrible shape
No cleats or bumper to dock boat - ours got terribly scratched up after we rigged it to dock
The downstairs bathroom has no air that I could see, making a shower in August pretty miserable
One comfortable chair in the whole place
Floor just inside door rotting.
No decent deck furniture. Couple of plastic chairs & strap loungers with no cushions.
Not very clean. Cobweb on hanging light over table, windowsills had dead bugs, dust on top of fridge. These things weren't a big deal but they did make me wonder what other corners were being cut while cleaning.
All of that being said, would I return? Probably, simply because of the location...land & water wise. Since we know there is no outdoor furniture, I would bring something. Since we know the pier/dock situation, we would bring things to make it workable. Would I stay here if we didn't have a boat? No way, the yard is just too depressing to have to look at all day. The other issues are things I can live with, again simply because of the location. Here is the kicker...Would I pay what they are asking for peak summer rental fees? No way in this world!! Entirely too high for the condition of the property.
We stayed in the last of May, it was quiet neiborhood. With friendly neighbors. The view is entertaining with the different boating and dolphins. We had a flock of Geese to visit us. It is a very relaxing atmosphere.
