Quaint Cottage on a Shared Beachfront Property
We loved our stay at this beautiful beachfront cottage! The property was laid back and very relaxing. Though it is located in a fairly poor part of the island (Waimanalo Beach Park is a few hundred feet up the road, lined with tents for the homeless, and somewhat notorious for car break-ins), the property itself is gated and feels very secure once you drive in.
There are three houses located on the property and this is the middle one / second back from the beach. As far as I could tell, the one furthest away from the water (second story, above the garage) was also a rental, but the one closest to the water is not.
There are a couple privacy dividers by the front and back sliding doors that you can position how you want and a few plants just outside some of the windows, but other than that, there are no window coverings, blinds, or curtains on any of the windows in the main living space, so it does feel a bit open and exposed to the other tenants if they're walking by to go to/from the beach.
There is a small bath house right next to the beach that is also free for renter use. It contains a variety of masks and snorkels that you can borrow and an outdoor shower with both hot and cold water to wash off beach sand. The beach itself is fairly narrow (don't expect much of a dry patch of sand to put your belongings or to sunbathe during high tide), but the water is absolutely gorgeous. There's also a turtle reef just up the beach that can be slightly calmer if you have kids. Trade winds were blowing during our visit, so the water was fairly rough even in the reef.
The appliances and furnishings are not the most up-to-date, but they are functional for the most part (and the outdatedness honestly adds a bit to the charm of the place). We had some difficulty getting our laundry done with the old washer/dryer, but the property manager said that the owner was having newer replacements delivered the week after we checked out. There is a small propane grill on the back porch that we made use of to grill up some fresh fish. There are plenty of sundries available (dish soap, laundry detergent, toilet paper, garbage bags, etc.) and everything is well-organized and labeled. The property manager is also very responsive if you run out of anything or need anything extra.
I would definitely recommend this rental to anyone looking for a nice secluded retreat right on the beach in Oahu!
Everybody was very receptive and helpful.
Great outdoors, super clean and nice set up.
Superb quiet get away.
An awesome private cottage with beach access. Fully stocked, clean and comfortable.
This was a beautiful property on the beach. Tranquil setting with lush gardens. Comfortable beds (2) stocked with many beach towels and linens. The washer and dryer was an added bonus. There were beach chairs, snorkeling gear, and an umbrella available to use. A well equipped kitchen made eating at home a breeze. The gated entrance to the property made us feel safe and secure. Gilles, the property manager, was readily available by phone. I would definitely recommend this to family and friends. This was SO much more a Hawaiian experience than it would have been merely staying in a hotel.
This is a really beautiful property. The cottage is small but lovely, and was beautifully prepared for us by Christina with fresh greens artfully arranged and everything sparkling clean. The beach and property are breathtaking, so peaceful. We were lucky to have the property to ourselves, no renters in the other units which would definitely make a difference for privacy.... We did have a Portuguse Man of War problem on the beach so could not get in the water (which per the neighbors is exceedingly rare). I would definitely go back! The management team were very responsive to our needs and just the best!
Lovely place...we will surely return!
Property manager is super responsive and the property is well maintained and equipped. Very relaxing, comfortable and serene.
The scenery at this location is unique in Hawaii from the beauty of the lagoon with Rabbit Island on the back ground , next to a tidal pool, framed by 500' by 50' stone wall ( Submerged at high tide, but visible at low tide). Although in Magnum P.I., Robin's nest is somewhere in the North Shore. the actual location is in fact on the South east coast of Oahu on Kalanianaole Hwy next to your rental place. The beach has no hotels so is not crowded with tourists like Waikiki, but all within 10 minutes are breathtaking coastal drive with Sea Life Park, Chief's Luau, Golf Course, Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail (whale-watching), Oceanic Institute, Sandy Beach, Hanauma Bay (Snorkeling), Blowhole and arrive in Hawaii Kai with shopping, restaurants, movie theater, grocery stores and all sorts of activities including para-sailing, jet skiing, deep sea fishing, boating, cruises, hang-gliding, scuba-diving, and more! Within 10 minute drive in the other direction are Waimanalo Bellows beach park, another golf course, horseback riding, a polo field, Pali Lookout (historical Hawaiian battleground) and Kailua with lots of shops, restaurants, grocery stores, beaches, etc.. Waimanalo is a local Hawaiian town free of Hotels but only 30-45 minutes of scenic drive to Pearl Harbor, Honolulu and Waikiki. I always like to escape the tourist trap areas but be close to everything I want to do and see. Waimanalo is one of Hawaii's best-kept secrets with awesome beach, great location, less congestion, authentic Hawaiian town feel and lots of local people, and incredible ocean and lava formed mountain views everywhere!
