WE'VE LOWERED OUR RATES!!! For the up-coming months we are offering an incentive for everyone to experience this incredible city. It is truly one of the wonders of the world. Seemingly isolated from the hustle and bustle of todays rat race. Many of our guests have said, " I feel like I'm living back in the " 50's" again. You have see it to believe it.......So we welcome you to our Large beautiful light filled apartment nestled at the foot of the majestic Mount Bufa natural preserve. It has a fully equipped kitchen with private patio. Free parking right in front of your door with open access laundry facilities and its own secured private entrances. The habitat is classic mexican colonial style....... There are tile floors throughout, brightly colored contrasting walls, colonial styled ceilings, private bathroom with an individual shower covered in handmade talavera tile, with very hot water. It is fully furnished with beautiful new artisan hand carved furniture and a strong Fibre-Optic Wi-Fi signal 20 MG's Internet speed. It is ideal for couples and single’s who wish to stay and work on long or short term projects. It also comes with a task desk, executive chair and study corner. The view from the private patio is not only breathe taking but inspirational.Enjoy living in the country while being just only minutes away from the very heart of downtown Guanajuato.
This Historic Colonial Mexican, refuge has a panoramic view of the colorful European like town of Guanajuato on one side and the natural, pristine Mountain Bufa Preserve and on the other. Our place is brand new, very clean and quiet, and is also in the safest neighborhood of the city. Speaking of safety, we're ranked one of the top 3 safest cities in the entire country. ( You will even feel safe walking the streets at night.) That's no joke.......
What makes this location so unique is it's peaceful, natural surroundings. Our guests always comment on the tranquility of our location... especially when you can walk right out your back door and hike right up to the impressive rock formations of Mount Bufa . If you love to hike, run, or bike , this is the perfect place with mountain trails at every turn , clean unpolluted air and plenty of sunshine. Many sporting events are popular here, foot, and bike races, along with countless other activities that always keeps you on the go. Plus you're surrounded by an incredible array of many excellent restaurants, shops, and art galleries clubs and bistros that are only minutes away;
So you can choose to be rejuvenated and refreshed by the ambiance of our natural surroundings. Or take a 5-10 minute bus or taxi ride to the center of town for theaters, restaurants, museums, nightclubs, coffee houses and the many other fun things to do. There is a literal revolving calendar of activities each and every month of the year....Guanajuato is the main vacation attraction not only for native Mexican and Latin americans. but also for Canadians, Amerians, Europeans, Japanese, Koreans, Chinese, Australians, love it here because it's a city frozen in time. There's only two stop lights in the whole city and basically the buildings have remained the same for the past 400 years.( Member of UNESCO). Most of the native people have been here for generations which make them so fascinating to get to know. So if you want a taste of the real Mexico you'll get your fill and still keep coming back for more.... Which is our greatest complaint........We frequently hear at the end of our guests visits, " But I don't want to go".
During your stay you can arrange for local or more extensive sight seeing tours, hot spring outings, hikes to local forested mountains, culinary, art or cultural tours. Just let us know ahead of time.
If you enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, then simply take a stroll into town passing tranquil streets, ancient plazas, callejons, and outdoor markets, that will literally transport you back to the colonial days of Old Mexico. Alfredo's Market, Hamburger stand and groceries are located just a few blocks away with many nearby street side vendors selling the freshest foods at the best prices......and if you like coffee, our next door neighbor is an award winning roaster with a variety of coffees and teas that will hook you at first sip. He personally stands there with a stop watch when it's roasting time. And his famous Beso Negro is a must do.....What we offer is unlike any place else in Guanajuato. Our goal is to make Guanajuato feel like home to you. We love getting to know our guests and doing what it takes to put a big smile on their face. So please if there's any questions, just see what our previous guests have said after their stay with us in the reviews . For one of the best vacations you'll ever have, there's no place like it on earth come stay with us and experience the enchantment of Beautiful Guanajuato. We are here to serve you!!! So, call us or write us now, why wait any longer ...........rest and relaxation is awaiting you........... we speak English, Spanish, Italian and fluent body language.
As a couple we love to combine our talents to make the perfect experience.
Buzz being a San Diego California born native understands the wants and needs of foreign vacationers and Maria a born native of Mexico who speaks perfect english, both enjoy pampering their guests and individualizing care for each one according to their needs. We love people and find it fascinating to get to know each one. We are both dedicated to making your experience one you'll love and want to extend or repeat again.
Buzz and Maria Rodriguez purchased this villa in 2009
This place is like a dream come true...Maria and I wanted to live in Mexico, because there is so much about it to love. The people, the land, the natural beauty and tranquility, the easy going pace of life. The only problem was we couldn't make our minds up as to what part of Mexico we wanted to live. We traveled to many different places and loved them all. But when we came to Guanajuato. It was love at first sight. I was immediately captivated by it's pervading peace and tranquility, it's character shaped after 500 + years of history where buildings are original and preserved , the same way they were during the days before the Revolution......Its clean air, land and water. At times I have to look at the calendar to make sure I'm not in the 50's. The longer we live here the more I want to stay an never leave......
Our neighborhood is a highly secured area with security patrols regularly monitoring the area several times daily. It is located in the exclusive area of the city where professors, doctors and professionals live. We are within a 25 min. walk or a 5 minute ride to the center of town yet far enough away that you hear no irritating street traffic, or loud noise of any sort. Our location is right at the foot of the Majestic Mount Bufa, a natural nature preserve, so you get the serenity and tranquility of a country setting, along with the peace and quiet so important for our vacationers to rest, relax and recuperate....Our only problem is once people check out they don't want to leave
We enjoyed our stay at Buzz and Maria's place. The apartment was clean, well furnished and the brick ceiling was amazing! It was large and had a nice kitchen that was separated by a partially enclosed patio with an excellent view of the city and the mountains. When we arrived and checked in with Buzz he was nice enough to drive us from the apartment into town and point out some of the good restaurants and coffee shops we should try out. We really enjoyed a few of his recommendations and went back to them more than once during our stay. Their place is at the edge of town and it is a bit of a walk to get to the downtown area but we did do the walk a number of times and it wasn't too bad. There are options for the bus or cab's too and on the days when we were tired from walking all day we would opt for public transportation to get back up the hill. They truly have a unique place! Buzz got a chance to show me around and they actually have three separate apartments in their house... a large one that we stayed in, a medium sized studio unit and a small unit for one person. If you're planning a trip to Guanajuato I would definitely recommend checking out all of their listings, it's a great place to stay. January 2014
Let me start off by saying that Buzz was very accommodating and a great host overall. Buzz let my boyfriend and I check in early since we were on a red eye and arrived to Guanajuato very early in the morning. We took a taxi from BJX to Guanajuato. Once in Guanajuato, we took Uber everywhere! Very easy to use, safe, reliable, and you know exactly how much your paying. Unfortunately, you are not able to take Uber from BJX to Guanajuato because of taxi politics, since Uber is recently new in the area. Taxi was from BJX to Guanajuato was $23-25 US. The apartment was just as described. Right next to Mt. Bufa, an amazing view of the city and mountain sides. We loved the set up of the apartment especially the the separate kitchen. Everything we needed was available. We also had access to washer and dyer. Hot water, wifi, TV. Bed was comfortable. Patio was lovely. We also loved the fact that inside the apartment was cooler in temperature, great after a long day of walking. It was an easy walk down to town, Buzz was nice enough to provide us a simple map to get there. A 5-10 min walk to get into town, right across the way is Cafe Taz, look for the upstairs patio. Great coffee and easy breakfast. If you go to the right you will find a lovely garden and if you keep heading past the garden you will see the small lake after the bridge where you can take a small boat out or have dinner at the restaurant next to it. Right in front of the Cafe is a bus stop. For 5 pesos you can take the bus anywhere in town. Just look at their windows to see if it stops where your headed. We would catch the bus to Embajadoras then to the Centro. Some days we would walk down from the apartment and just take an Uber into downtown. We fell in love with the city. We visited all major cites, Jardin de la Union, lots restaurants, University, mercado, and even watched a musical show at the Treatro Principal. Days were spent getting lost in the city, alleyways, plazas, shops. The city is very safe, police everywhere protecting the tourism and locals. There is a place in el centro where you can purchase bus passes if you wanted to visit cities near by and you can purchase there. Buzz thanks you for a great place to stay and experience Guanajuato we will be back!
We had an amazing time exploring Guanajuato from Buzz and Maria’s beautiful apartment. Early mornings were spent sitting on the terrace watching various birds that frequent the yard: hummingbirds, finches, sparrows, and vermillion flycatchers. We are avid hikers and with a preserve right in the backyard, we could hike Mt. Bufa in the morning continuing on trails and roads to other bluffs. It was easy to get in a 10 mile hike out and back. After hiking, we’d spend our afternoons and evenings wandering around town and sometimes stopping for an early dinner. Nights we’d open the windows and listen to the sounds of crickets and the city below.
The apartment is exactly as described in the overview; we found nothing lacking. The wifi was super speedy and we appreciated having a desk where we could work. We found the kitchen perfectly outfitted for meals at home; it was stocked with staples such as tea, coffee, sugar, salt, oil, and some spices. We liked the separation between the kitchen and the living area with patio in between.
Buzz and Maria are most excellent hosts! Buzz picked us up from the bus station and gave us a tour of the neighborhood-pointing out great restaurants, cafes, nearby mini-supers (convenience stores) and landmarks so we’d have our bearings. Our hosts made sure we had everything needed to be comfortable in their home. We’d bump into them in the city and they’d introduce us to their friends. If this were AirBnB Buzz and Maria would rate as super hosts.
We chose Guanajuato over other colonial cities because it is a traditional Mexican city with a lively, youthful vibe as it’s a university town. We were not disappointed. This a city best explored by walking. We enjoyed wandering the callejons and calles passing colorful colonial casas, lovely tree-lined parks, sculptures (Leonora Carrington has a few around town), and arte urbano.
All in all, we loved the clean, beautiful apartment; enjoyed being on the edge of the city with country in our backyard; and staying with locals who treated us like family. We definitely recommend Buzz and Maria’s apartment; we will be back.
A few favorites: Stop by Café Tal for un beso negro (a warm cup of thick decadent dark chocolate) and a cappuccino. For an upscale meal in a casual atmosphere, check out Los Campos. For a more traditional meal, walk down to Mexico Lindo y Sabroso in Presa, we really liked their mole and their posole was pretty good too.
Buzz and Maria made us very welcome in Guanajuato - they offered plenty of help and tips on restaurants etc. and Buzz even met the taxi on the way from the airport to make sure we got in OK! Our apartment in their home was clean, comfortable and had a homey, cozy ambiance. I loved having my tea on our private terrace overlooking the mountain top on one side and the Presa area on the other. We had an equipped kitchen and seating area which was great for making snacks and keeping beverages cold but with so many excellent and reasonable food options it was just easier eating out. The area is safe and friendly - by the second day the family at the taco vapour stand (excellent street food!) knew what we liked and the great girls at Cafe Tal knew our order. Cafe Tal offered a pleasant upper terrace to have an outstanding morning coffee while watching the view. Our home away from home was a bit of a steep hike up the mountain (easy walk going down) so we compromised on the way home occasionally by taking the very available and reasonable taxis from the historical district (about $3.00). The walk to the historical area is an easy 20 min. and takes you by schools and through typical neighbourhoods. We understand why so many retire to this visually beautiful, friendly, comfortable Mexican town. We highly recommend a stay with Buzz and Maria.
Our stay in a word? Perfect!
We stayed with Buzz and Maria for a week and loved it. The apartment was clean and comfortable, with a great patio and wonderful views of the colorful city of Guanajuato. We enjoyed having our own private space to relax after a long day of exploring the city.
The location of the apartment was good. It's outside of the center of town which made for a quieter, more peaceful stay. However, it was close enough that getting anywhere in town is pretty easy. You could walk to the center in about 30 minutes, but we opted for buses and taxis since we planned on walking around a lot already. We usually caught the bus in the morning - it showed up every 15 minutes or so and only cost 5 pesos. Coming back at night, we'd grab a taxi - they were easy to catch and cost around 40-50 pesos. It was the perfect combo of convenience and comfort.
And finally, I could not finish this review without mentioning how great Buzz and Maria were. They helped us get to and from the apartment, making our arrival and departure stress-free. But they didn't stop there. From tips on what to check out and where to go, to even driving us around one day to a few places that were not as easily accessed by foot, Buzz and Maria went above and beyond to ensure we had an awesome trip.
I highly recommend booking your stay in Guanajuato with Buzz and Maria. We had a great time, and I'm confident you will too!
We had a splendid time in Guanajuato and staying at Buzz and Maria's made all the difference in the world. Everything was perfect; flowers on the dresser, a comfortable bed, a kitchen just right for cooking the foods we picked up at the local markets, and a patio perfect for relaxing after a long day exploring the city and surrounding areas.
Buzz and Mare excellent hosts. We had spent 12 hours traveling with a very tight connection in Atlanta so we never got lunch and by the time we got to Guanajuato we were famished. To top it all off, we had a huge rental car snafu upon arrival and Maria kindly drove to the airport and brought us "home" and fed us a steaming bowls of homemade soup.
You don't need a car in Guanajuato, as a matter of fact, I would discourage it. Guanajuato is a walking town. If you want/need a ride there are the buses, (10 pesos) as well as plenty of cabs. The cabs are inexpensive, (40-50 pesos from the center of town or the Mega supermarket) and the drivers extremely courteous. We generally took cabs home rather than walk up the hill, (very steep, think San Francisco with cobblestones). If you are interested in visiting areas outside of Guanajuato, such as Dolores Hidalgo or San Miguel de Allende you can take a 1st class bus from the Central de Autobuses for about 25.00 rt. You get a comfy seat with leg rest, a snack and can watch a video if you like, (far better than any coach class airplane seat to be sure).
We were in Guanajuato for during the Cervantino Festival and highly recommend the Cervantino if you love music, dance, cinema and more. Guanajuato is a university town so there are plenty is a wealth of visual and performing arts and lectures year around. There are a ton of restaurants of every kind and price range...Do lunch, 2 pm or later, it's the big meal of the day, and you can walk it off afterward!
If you are mobility impaired Guanajuato is probably not a city you would enjoy. The city itself is very hilly throughout, walking streets are cobblestone, most sidewalks are very narrow and will not accommodate a wheelchair or scooter. Crutches and canes would be extremely difficult. Guanajuato is at 6587 feet which was not a problem for us because we live at 6700 feet, but be aware of the altitude and adjust accordingly; drink plenty of water.
We truly loved our visit and look forward to returning to Guanajuato and when we do we will stay with Buzz and Maria!
My wife and I were travelling with our 8 month old daughter and had a wonderful stay (5 nights) here with Buzz. Buzz picked us up at the airport and since we did had'nt had dinner yet - Buzz offered to stop at a local restaurant, so we could pick up some take away. Buzz was very warm and hospitable and made us feel at home. The apartment was all as advertised and overlooking the beautiful city of Guanajato. We in particular enjoyed the fresh mountain air in the mornings on the beautiful patio, the walks downtown and up to mount bufa and the sounds of crickets at night time. We would love to be back here one day and can highly recommend this place.
Our guests have access to things that make a vacation.........a vacation.. They have complete privacy, peace and quiet, and a good nights sleep.. And an atmosphere conducive for concentration, reflection, and meditation. Easy access to all the necessary amenities, private kitchen, local groceries, in house laundry, complete privacy, places to eat, drink, like Starbucks, along with many other home grown gourmet coffee shops and cafes, restaurants and bistros serving local and international foods from around the world. We will personally show you the best places to eat and drink. There's one of a kind museums, festivals, fiestas local and international artists performing night and day in theaters and on the streets. The city literally blossoms in the month of October, with so many attractions from performers who come from all over the world for the Cervantino Festival. The sights and sounds you will experience at that time are things you'll always remember and treasure for a lifetime. Guanajuato is known as the most colonial and european like city in all Mexico. It also has a reputation for being one of the three most safest and most people friendly cities of all. There's easy and economical access to public transportation along with helpful, attentive and cooperative hosts, always ready to attend to your particular needs. Plus any thing else that would require us going above and beyond the call of duty. We personally have lived here for 4 years and love the ambience, peace and tranquility and the friendly people you meet, wherever you go you can always see a smile.
