We have a natural mountain preserve on one side and a panoramic, birds eye view of the city on the other. Since we’re away from the hustle and bustle of the maddening crowds back home, our guests can easily extinguish stress, burnout and fatigue.

Say the code word, “Frogs" and get 15% off your nightly stay……( Monthly and weekly discounts do not apply)

We welcome you to our beautiful light filled apartment nestled at the foot of the majestic Mount Bufa natural preserve. It has a fully equipped kitchen with private patio. Free parking right at your door with open access laundry facilities and your own secured private entrances. The habitat is classic colonial style....... There are hand made tiles throughout, colonial styled boveda ceiling, private bathroom with individual shower covered in handmade talavera tile, and very hot water. It is fully furnished with beautiful artisan hand carved furniture and a strong Fibre-Optic Wi-Fi signal / 20 MG's High speed Internet. It is ideal for couples and single’s who wish to stay and work on long or short term projects. It has a queen size bed, a task desk, executive chair, futon sofa bed and study corner. The view from the private patio is not only breath taking but inspirational. Enjoy living in the country while being just minutes away from the center of downtown. This, colonial refuge has a panoramic view of the city which is painted in all the colors of the rainbow on one side and the pristine Mount Bufa Preserve on the other. Our place is clean and quiet, and located in one of the safest neighborhoods in town. Speaking of safety, we're ranked among the top 3 safest cities in all of Mexico. ( Our guests have commented feeling safe while walking the streets at night)...The natural wildlife and variety of colorful native birds attract bird watchers. Many are surprised to see at their front doors occasional free range cattle, mules, horses or goats that come from the tops of the mountain to visit. (They love raw vegetables and fruit) You can walk right out your back door and hike up to those impressive rock formations of Mount Bufa & Los Picachos, especially if you love a good place to reflect, study and meditate or even hike, run, or ride a bike , this is the perfect place with mountain trails at every turn . The air up here is clean and unpolluted with plenty of sunshine. Guanajuato also sponsors many sporting events such as car, foot, bike and swimming races, along many other activities that will capture your attention. So you can choose to be rejuvenated and refreshed by enjoying our protected local state parks. Or take a 10-15 minute bus or taxi ride to the center of town for theaters, restaurants, museums, nightclubs, coffee houses and the list goes on and on. There is literally a revolving calendar of live music, concerts , theater performances. along with many street artists , mimes and musicians who entertain passer's by both day and night... Especially during the month of October when we celebrate our International Cervantino Festival. It's the Mardi Gras of Mexico...(Very Exciting) With hosts from all around the world, drawing travelers and curiosity seekers . Yes Guanajuato has been considered an international treasure. It is a UNESCO city that is under constant restoration and preservation. There's only two stop lights in the whole city with cars, people on horseback , festivals and frequent encounters with parades of indigenous Indians in their ancient native costumes that date back to before the days of Cortez and Montezuma. Most of the native people have been here for generations which make them so fascinating to observe and get to know. So if you want a taste of the real Mexico look no further.... W--hich is our greatest complaint........We frequently hear at the end of our guests visits, " But I don't want to leave".................., because of this many have stayed and are now our neighbors . So beware!! You may fall in love! During your stay you can arrange for local or more extensive sight seeing tours, hot spring outings, hikes to local forested mountains, fresh water fishing, culinary, art or cultural tours. Many come here to learn to speak Spanish, since we have many total immersion language schools here. Let us know ahead of time. And we'll recommend several... If you enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, then take a 20 minute stroll into town passing tranquil streets, ancient plazas, callejons, and outdoor markets, that literally transport you back to the colonial days of Old Mexico. Alfredo's Market, Hamburger stand and groceries are located just a few blocks away with many nearby street side vendors selling the freshest foods at the best prices.. If you like coffee, our next door neighbor is an award winning roaster with a variety of coffees and teas that will hook you at first sip. He personally stands there with a stop watch when it's roasting time. And his famous Beso Negro .... will keep you coming back. . We love getting to know our guests and making new friends. So if there's any questions; we can help you fill in the blanks, please don't hesitate to ask . We are here to serve!!! So, call or write us . We only ask when making your reservations to please plan well ahead of time. since we rent on a first come first serve basis. ..................... we speak English, Spanish, Spanglish, some Italian, and fluent body language.

Nice place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Buzz picked me up at the airport (and dropped me off when I left), that was very helpful. He also gave me a tour of the city as we arrived and stopped at a supermarket so I could pick up some groceries. All very helpful. The city is very interesting with much to see and I enjoyed getting to know it. All in all it was a memorable holiday. The only downside, the nights are cold there, thankfully there was a heater to keep warm with.

Quiet, pleasant, attractive, comfortable accommadations

  • 4 of 5

Our accommodations in the apartment of Buzz and Maria Rodriquez were very pleasant. The bedroom/sitting room was attractive and comfortable. A small covered patio was also a pleasnat place to sit. Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of our visit was the pickup service provided by Buzz. Our flight arrived after midnight and we would have been a little challenged to give directions to a taxi to arrive at the apartment located high on the side of the valley leading to La Presa. Buzz was helpful in suggesting restaurants and coffee shops in the area and the Embajador was a short walk. We are avid walkers and enjoyed our 45 minute walk the the Jardin. In addition numerous buses travel from the Jardin to the junction with the road up to the apartment.

Really appreciated Buzz and Maria's hospitality.

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was spotless. The kitchen is separated from the bedroom by a comfortable terrazzo where happy hour can be enjoyed. The walk into town was about 25 minutes. A bit longer on the uphill return! Buses are available in La Pressa although we walked to/from town daily. La Pressa is quite charming. Buzz and Maria are very accommodating and we look forward to returning.

Great location for hiking in nature.

  • 4 of 5

While the apartment was a bit far removed from town (30 minute walk), it was great to be close to nature and the mountains.

There are some good restaurants just down the hill, but the kitchen sufficed for the occasional meal in.

Be forewarned, it seems every house in the area has barking guard dogs. Ear plugs highly recommended!

We didn't see much of Buzz and Maria, but any time we had a question or request, they were quick to respond.

Overall a good visit. Guanajuato is a wonderful town!

Terrific hosts in a wonderful city

  • 5 of 5

Buzz and Maria are excellent ambassadors for this truly amazing Mexican Highlands city-Guanajuato.Their apartment is clean, comfortable and a short distance from the busier tourist area known as centro.I took the bus into centro almost every day to explore and take Spanish language classes.I found the citizens and fellow tourists of this beautiful city to be very friendly and helpful, whenever I needed directions or information.I highly recommend taking a trip to Guanajuato,Mexico and staying awhile to experience many of the offerings this great city holds-contact Buzz and Maria to reserve your safe, comfortable and lovely accomodations away from the more touristy downtown area.I was surprised by how sad I was to end my stay in this wonderful city.

Owner's Response: Thank You Ron,. We we're sad to see you go too. We can't help the natural attraction of making friends with our guests. Which is a hard pill to swallow after you realize you may never see them again once they leave. Well it goes with the territory. ( It's the only thing I don't like about this business). We not only wish our guests would stay longer and they wouldn't be gone so long. Our doors will always be wide open for them to return any time they wish. And that means you. We enjoyed your visit and will look forward to picking up where we left off. Stay safe til we meet again. Thank You, your Friends Buzz and Maria.😂

Guanajuato Mountain Side

  • 5 of 5

Let me start off by saying that Buzz was very accommodating and a great host overall. Buzz let my boyfriend and I check in early since we were on a red eye and arrived to Guanajuato very early in the morning. We took a taxi from BJX to Guanajuato. Once in Guanajuato, we took Uber everywhere! Very easy to use, safe, reliable, and you know exactly how much your paying. Unfortunately, you are not able to take Uber from BJX to Guanajuato because of taxi politics, since Uber is recently new in the area. Taxi was from BJX to Guanajuato was $23-25 US. The apartment was just as described. Right next to Mt. Bufa, an amazing view of the city and mountain sides. We loved the set up of the apartment especially the the separate kitchen. Everything we needed was available. We also had access to washer and dyer. Hot water, wifi, TV. Bed was comfortable. Patio was lovely. We also loved the fact that inside the apartment was cooler in temperature, great after a long day of walking. It was an easy walk down to town, Buzz was nice enough to provide us a simple map to get there. A 5-10 min walk to get into town, right across the way is Cafe Taz, look for the upstairs patio. Great coffee and easy breakfast. If you go to the right you will find a lovely garden and if you keep heading past the garden you will see the small lake after the bridge where you can take a small boat out or have dinner at the restaurant next to it. Right in front of the Cafe is a bus stop. For 5 pesos you can take the bus anywhere in town. Just look at their windows to see if it stops where your headed. We would catch the bus to Embajadoras then to the Centro. Some days we would walk down from the apartment and just take an Uber into downtown. We fell in love with the city. We visited all major cites, Jardin de la Union, lots restaurants, University, mercado, and even watched a musical show at the Treatro Principal. Days were spent getting lost in the city, alleyways, plazas, shops. The city is very safe, police everywhere protecting the tourism and locals. There is a place in el centro where you can purchase bus passes if you wanted to visit cities near by and you can purchase there. Buzz thanks you for a great place to stay and experience Guanajuato we will be back!

About Buzz and Maria Rodriguez

As a couple we love to combine our talents to make the perfect experience.

Buzz being a San Diego California born native understands the wants and needs of foreign vacationers and Maria a born native of Mexico who speaks perfect english, both enjoy pampering their guests and individualizing care for each one according to their needs. We love people and find it fascinating to get to know each one. We are both dedicated to making your experience one you'll love and want to extend or repeat again.

Buzz and Maria Rodriguez purchased this villa in 2009

Why Buzz and Maria Rodriguez chose De La Presa

This place is like a dream come true...Maria and I wanted to live in Mexico, because there is so much about it to love. The people, the land, the natural beauty and tranquility, the easy going pace of life. The only problem was we couldn't make our minds up as to what part of Mexico we wanted to live. We traveled to many different places and loved them all. But when we came to Guanajuato. We were convinced.... it's character shaped after 500 + years of history where buildings are originally preserved, had such a captivating ambiance .....Its clean air, land and water. The people and the charming . ways they interacted with one another...

What makes this villa unique

Our neighborhood is a highly secured area with security patrols regularly monitoring the area several times daily. It is located in the exclusive area of the city where professors, doctors and professionals live. We are within a 25 min. walk or a 5 minute ride to the center of town yet far enough away that you hear no irritating street traffic, or loud noise of any sort. This place is so infectious that once you arrive the natural ambiance of peace and tranquility will be such an attraction you won't want to leave. The location of our villas are perched right on the edge of the city with a breathtaking view of the Mount Bufa Preserve on the left and a panoramic view of the most colorfully decorated city in all of Mexico on your right. The nearness of the parks, plazas, reservoirs, coffee shops, gyms, hiking trails, restaurants, museums, night clubs and Bistros are minutes away by foot or even less by Uber, bus or taxi... The city is literally frozen in time . The native people here welcome visitors and are treated with the greatest dignity and respect. You will have to pinch yourself at times and ask ......Is this a dream. Bring your camera with an extra chip, photo opp's are everywhere.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our stay at Buzz and Maria's place. The apartment was clean, well furnished and the brick ceiling was amazing! It was large and had a nice kitchen that was separated by a partially enclosed patio with an excellent view of the city and the mountains. When we arrived and checked in with Buzz he was nice enough to drive us from the apartment into town and point out some of the good restaurants and coffee shops we should try out. We really enjoyed a few of his recommendations and went back to them more than once during our stay. Their place is at the edge of town and it is a bit of a walk to get to the downtown area but we did do the walk a number of times and it wasn't too bad. There are options for the bus or cab's too and on the days when we were tired from walking all day we would opt for public transportation to get back up the hill. They truly have a unique place! Buzz got a chance to show me around and they actually have three separate apartments in their house... a large one that we stayed in, a medium sized studio unit and a small unit for one person. If you're planning a trip to Guanajuato I would definitely recommend checking out all of their listings, it's a great place to stay. January 2014
