Three months stay at downtown Toronto condo

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I felt that the condo in downtown Toronto worked very well for our three-month stay. Richard was a great host, eager to take care of any small problems that might arise. I'm writing this as the view of an older man who uses a cane. The condo is convenient to just about everything the two of us wanted to do. We could easily walk to several good restaurants even on rainy days. We could also walk the two blocks to Longo's supermarket with our backpacks to buy whatever groceries we needed or for various meals, or to the adjacent bank. The building in which we lived has a medical clinic and pharmacy on the first floor, readily available if needed.. The harbor front, a boardwalk, and a ferry to the Toronto Islands are all nearby, making it easy to get away whenever we wished. We had monthly passes for the subway, streetcars, and buses, making it convenient to get around without a car. If you plan to stay in the city, there's little use for a car. The apartment is well supplied for two people, having two bathrooms and a small kitchen. The Murphy bed in the dining room would be inconvenient to use except perhaps for one or two guests overnight. Thank you, Richard, for providing this centrally located apartment.

FANTASTIC place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed for 6 nights. The condo was immaculate, comfortable, and well equipped with everything we needed. We really enjoyed the balcony overlooking the historic roundhouse (now part museum, part microbrewery), the Rogers stadium (we watched the roof close a couple of times), the aquarium, the entrance to the convention center, and even Lake Ontario! The lake front, which was 2 blocks away, was busy with many fun things to do. The condo is in such a great location which made our stay in Toronto most enjoyable. The building also had good security. Richard, the owner, was very responsive to questions before our arrival and very helpful upon arrival with great suggestions. We didn't need to contact him during our stay as all went well. We would definitely stay here again!

Great Location & Views, Lost Points on Customer Service

  • 3 of 5

While I’d like to give full stars because the location is excellent and the unit is comfortable and has great views, I need to deduct stars because our overall rental experience wasn’t positive and detracted from our vacation.

The good: The location of the rental is great. Very close to the aquarium, CN Tower, Rogers Centre, railroad museum, and ferry.

The bad: The customer service experience. The owner was very pleasant in conversations prior to the trip but when we got there he seemed surprised we had a toddler with us, which I had specified and paid extra for, and did not recall my request for a late checkout. Prior to our trip I had requested a late checkout in writing more than once, including prior to booking. I even provided our flight times. If that wasn't going to be possible I would have booked another rental or a hotel. It wasn't until we checked in that the owner informed us that there was another family coming and we'd need to leave by 12 at the latest. He didn’t recall my requests for late check out and stated that I should have told him ahead of time, which I had. I’m pregnant and we have a toddler so we were counting on a midday nap before heading to the airport. Instead, we had to hustle out with no nap and find parking and activities to do before heading to the airport for our evening flight. It wasn’t ideal and as someone who travels often and has worked in hospitality, I really feel the owner could have done more to at least have us leave smiling, especially since the mix-up was an oversight on his part.

The additional costs. I paid the standard cleaning fee, service charge, and security deposit that come with all rentals as expected. I also paid the parking fee ($50 min) and an additional guest fee ($20/nt) for having a third person. But it got to be excessive when I came home to an email stating that there was damage (a loose toilet handle which was loose when we arrived) and stains on the couch that required steam cleaning. I was very surprised because we left the unit in good condition and prior to this trip, I’ve never not received my full deposit back on a vacation rental. It wasn’t a lot of money but I felt like I was unreasonably being nickeled and dimed after already paying the $110 cleaning fee upfront. In the end, the owner agreed to remove the fee for the toilet but not the steam cleaning.

In summary, we had a wonderful trip to Toronto and the unit was nice but we left with a bad taste in our mouths.

Owner's Response: As you may well see from all the reviews, this is our first and only bad experience with any guests since we started hosting. We do try to accommodate all the requests from our guests, however we do realize there are some guests that should only use hotels. These guests were extremely disrespectful of our suite. They left the entire place in a complete mess with numerous nasty stains all over the suede couch and rugs, broken toilet handles on the floor of the bathroom and rubbish everywhere. This is definitely the worst we have experienced. We hired a professional steam cleaner to remove all the stains and odors left behind. We definitely will not rent to these extremely careless guests ever again.

Perfect place for a stay in Toronto

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at this unit. The location is perfect. Over 4 days we never took our car out of the garage. We did use a cab twice, getting to and from Little Portugal. The condo is very comfortable with everything we needed. We very much enjoyed sitting on the deck, reading and people watching. It was great that Richard met us at the door to the garage, showed us where to park and then walked us up to the unit to show us around. We will definitely be staying here on any return trips to Toronto.

Great value, great view, great host

  • 5 of 5

Our expectations were exceeded. This unit is perfect in so many ways. Location, view, proximity to restaurants, venues etc. Fully equipped, comfortable, clean and well appointed, staying here for four days was an absolute pleasure. The biggest differentiator is Richard. He allowed us to maintain our privacy yet was there in an instant when we required something. We will return without question.

Brilliant stay

  • 5 of 5

I had a brilliant stay at Rich's place in Downtown Toronto. The location is great, the condo is large, well-equipped, clean and comfortable... Rich was attentive with communication, gave great advice about Toronto, and was overall a good bloke.

I won't hesitate in recommending this place to friends and family staying in Toronto!
