About Marcella Franklin

Our family has dreamed of a vacation hideaway where we could enjoy our family time in the cool Prescott pines. We love seeing our children and grandchildren exploring the surrounding forests and making special memories.

Marcella Franklin purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Marcella Franklin chose Prescott

The Prescott area is rich in history and recreational activities. Although we are in the forest, shopping, dining and other attractions are just minutes away.

What makes this cabin unique

We love sitting on the deck in all weather watching squirrels play, listing to the birds or the wind through the Ponderosa pines. Catching a glimpse of the deer is a special treat.

Relaxing in the whispering pines

  • 5 of 5

The pictures do not really show the relaxing feeling you get when you walk in the door.

We drove 5days from Ontario Canada to come back to our favorite city of Prescott AZ.

We have rented in the city before but decided to rent in the hills. This was the right choice. The quiet, the wild life and the comfort of a beautiful home was what we all needed.

The kitchen is very well equipped. We cook all our meals due to a wheat allergy.

Everything was within a 15min drive. The woman joined the YMCA for aqua fit and the men were out on their ATVs exploring the many trails. Even went up to Thumb Butte for an afternoon walk

We travel with a dog who loved the place as well, a fenced in back yard kept her safe.

After dinner we had a pool table and pin ball machine to try your luck at.

The two main bedrooms gave both couples privacy We had a private deck each but unfortunately it was early spring so morning coffee in March was not going to happen. A good book in the afternoon in the sunshine was perfect

We went to live shows at the elks club each Friday and to high tea on the 4th Sunday of the month in the peacock room

We are looking forward to coming back to Prescott .This will be our choice of rental

Did I mention a herd of mule deer are seen daily around the house. One day we counted 20 as they walked by.

Thank you for sharing your home with us

VERY DANGEROUS HOUSE ON DANGEROUS ROAD, PRESCOTT, AZ

  • 1 of 5

I STAYED 2 FULL MONTHS IN THIS HOUSE, APRIL 4 THRU JUNE 1, 2017. THIS HOUSE IS INFESTED WITH MITES AND DANGEROUS ORGANISMS, WHICH IS WHY LANDLORD CALLS HER PROCESS OF CLEANING OF HOUSE IN-BETWEEN TENANTS....."MANDATORY DE-GERMING/DISINFECTION OF PREMISES". LANDLORD VERBALLY STATED THIS TO ME, WHILE I WAS ATTEMPTNG OVER COURSE OF MY EXTENDED STAY TO HAVE HER INSTALL A FIRE ESCAPE LADDER FROM VERY DANGEROUS 3RD FLOOR MASTER BEDROOM/BATH/BUNK BED AREA...WHICH HAS A 75 FOOT STRAIGHT DROP DOWN TO ROCKY RIVER BED AREA OUT BEDROOM WINDOW. THE 3RD FLOOR BALCONY IN THIS MASTER BEDROOM HAS A 65 FOOT STRAIGHT DROP DOWN ONTO MASSIVE HEAVY CONCRETE ROUND PATIO TABLE. LOCAL FIRE MARSHAL SAID HOUSE SHOULD DEFINITELY HAVE ATTACHED 3RD FLOOR FIRE ESCAPE LADDER....LANDLORD BLATANTLY REFUSED TO INSTALL FIRE ESCAPE LADDER!!! I COULD NOT SAFELY SLEEP IN 3RD FLOOR MASTER BEDROOM WITH MY DOG DURING MY ENTIRE STAY OF 2 MONTHS!! THEREFORE I AM SUEING LANDLORD FOR BLATANT, DIRECT, AND INTENTIONAL BREACH OF CONTRACT.

LANDLORD VERBALLY TRIED TO COERCE ME INTO STOPPING MY INQUIRIES ON WHY NO FIRE ESCAPE LADDER, WHEN I KEPT CALLING LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT

TO COME CHECK/CHANGE OUT CHIRPING FIRE SMOKE ALARMS....ONE OF WHICH HAD SPIDER COBWEBS BLOCKING IT'S FUNCTION ABOVE QUEEN BED. LANDLORD NEVER KEPT ANY RECORDS OF 9 VOLT BATTERY CHANGES IN HOUSE LOG WHICH I COULD LOCATE, SO THEREFORE I WAS FORCED TO CALL FIRE DEPARTMENT. PLUS OAK COVE ROAD SPEED LIMITS ARE NOT, REPEAT NOT, ENFORCED BY LOCAL SHERIFF'S OFFICE.... ALL CHILDREN PLAY AT GREAT RISK

ON THIS PRIVATE ROAD, IN PRIVATE HOA COMMUNITY. TO MAKE MATTERS EVEN WORSE, THIS AREA IS SURROUNDED BY PINE TREES WHICH HARBOR MILLIONS OF SPIDERS EACH YEAR.....WHICH COME DIRECTLY INTO THIS HOUSE BY THE HUNDREDS. IN CLOSING, BOTH DOG AND I RETURNED HOME VERY ILL INDEED FROM MASSIVE MITE INFESTATION IN AND AROUND THIS RENTAL HOUSE ON VRBO.COM

Owner's Response: We did everything possible to provide this guest with a positive experience. We answered every question, responded to her texts/phone calls, walked her through how to use the TV, replaced the TV remote after her dog chewed it and tried to accommodate her every need. We quickly realized that we were faced with a guest with unrealistic expectations and wouldn't be satisfied no matter what was done. Once her unrealistic demands and questions weren't met or answered to her liking, she became very upset and bombarded us with complaints about the neighborhood (noise, barking dogs, speeding cars) slippery wood floors, excessive pollen outside, lack of a fire escape ladder, smoke alarm questions, concerns with the balcony heights, and cell phone reception. Over a two month period this guest sent over 550 texts, 15 e-mails, left 32 voice mails, and 25 phone calls all at various times of the day including in the middle of the night (12am-3am). Her communication turned into a daily barrage of harassing texts, e-mails and voice mails containing many personal derogatory statements, threatening lawsuits, calling us ignorant and cursing our family out. What's interesting about this guest is she requested multiple times to rent our place again and repeatedly told us how much she loved our house. She even apologized multiple times about her rude comments ("And truly I apologize deeply for any rude remarks to you!") Regarding this guest's review: We always conduct a "deep cleaning" of the house before our next guest. We do not have an infestation of mites and dangerous organisms. Our property is treated regularly between guests. Our smoke alarms are regularly tested and the batteries in the 2 chirping smoke alarms were replaced by the fire department because our guest called them to do so. We contacted the Fire Marshall who responded to her call and he told the guest that a fire escape ladder was not needed on a residential home with an upstairs. The Fire Marshall told us that she didn't like his answer and continued to complain about it and is still threatening to sue us over it. The house is not a 75ft drop, maybe closer to 35ft off the highest point. Yes the area is surrounded by beautiful tall Ponderosa pines which we love. Since we are in a forest there will be bugs, nothing we can do about that one. Future guests: We hope you can see how unreasonable this guest has been and disregard her review. Please see our previous reviews for a more accurate representation.

We thoroughly enjoyed our sunny, serene, quiet month of March in this beautiful cabin in the pines.

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful home in a peaceful setting only 15 minutes from downtown Prescott. A fabulous deck out back is perfect for relaxing or having a meal. All the comforts of home and a well-equipped kitchen. Super clean. Quiet neighborhood with fun hikes up & down the hills of Highland Pines. Owner was very prompt answering any questions we had. Prescott hiking is diverse. We hiked Thumb Butte, Granite Mountain & around Watson Lake, which was so much fun! All within 20-30 minutes from this property! We hope to return soon.

The best cabin in the pines

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying in this wonderful home for the month of February. We live in Illinois and we wanted to get away from the winter weather and enjoy Prescott for a month to consider possibly moving there after retirement. We had fantastic weather, I couldn’t wait to get up in the morning and go hiking.

We hiked in the neighborhood, Thumb Butte, Watson, Willow, Goldwater and Lynx lakes and many more.

The owner is so responsive and helpful, she found a set of golf clubs that she allowed us to borrow. We golfed 4 different courses. The owner also left oranges in the refrigerator for us (homegrown from trees in her yard)

We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner.

We saw javelinas, deer and a coyote in the neighborhood. Everyone waves to each other. We found Prescott to be a very friendly town.

The house is so lovely, warm and inviting. All the furniture is comfortable, the kitchen is well stocked with anything you may need. The washer and dryer are great, there’s a large window in the laundry area that makes doing laundry a treat. The ride to this house is awesome, the views are spectacular.

If I could give this house ten stars, I would! Our whole Arizona vacation was wonderful……the weather, people we met (including the owner), hiking, golfing and restaurants. Thank you for wonderful memories!

The best VRBO we have had to pleasure of renting!!

  • 5 of 5

This property was absolutely the best experience we have had with a VRBO! The location, conditions of property, assistance of owner to have what we needed, things to do in the area - everything - just perfect! We would love to come back - although the enforcement of renting for minimum of a month will probably exclude us from doing so - until we retire perhaps!!

Owner's Response: Chris It was great having you and your family as guests. We're happy we could provide a home like setting for your Thanksgiving visit. As you mentioned, we have moved from doing the shorter term rentals to more long term of 30 or more days. We wish you and your family the best and have a wonderful holiday.

Charming Cabin in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

My family had a wonderful time at this cabin! The owners have thought of everything! It was relaxing and cozy, yet had all of the modern amenities of home. We loved the tri-level, including game room with pool table. Grilling and sitting on the patio was a needed break from our regular busy lives. Even just sinking into the comfy couch and relaxing while chatting with others cooking in the kitchen. It was a short drive from downtown Prescott. The owners provided great directions and the house was stocked with everything we needed. Just bring food and you will be set!
