About Mike and Jo Bailey

We live in Wisconsin on the south shore of Lake Superior. We owned and rented a cottage on Madeline Island for 17 years, so we know what you like. We have 7 of 14 grandchildren in KY so wish to visit, but are more than willing to share the cabin with you when we are not there.

Mike and Jo Bailey purchased this house in 2014

Why Mike and Jo Bailey chose Lake Malone

We looked for a wilderness lake near our children and found a perfect kayak spot with wildlife and awesome views. This home is fully equipped with all the necessities available in city life, plus the seclusion, quiet, and privacy found only in a wilderness setting. Each of the 3 decks looks out on the finger cove. Sunrises and sunsets are spectacular.

What makes this house unique

Our cabin provides solitude and luxury in a natural setting. The lake contains a wilderness reserve, with a scattering of private residences. Fishing, boating, sailing, and kayaking are primary visitor preoccupations. Eagles, deer, turkeys, squirrels, and birds of all kinds share the beauty of the area. Lake Malone is within a half hour of larger communities and city activities. Parks, Bike trails, museums, and historical sites are all within easy travel distance. A restaurant/resort is ten minutes away for local dining at a reasonable price. Residents are welcoming and friendly.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Loved the house and the views, especially waking up to the sunrise and seeing the sunset. The house was equipped with everything we needed.

The owners were very friendly and answered all our questions.

Beautiful veiw!

  • 4 of 5

I really enjoyed the home. It is cozy and I loved the enclosed porch overlooking the lake.

If you sleep in the loft you better be an early riser (sunlight) but the view is awesome.

Everything is clean and kept up.😁

It would be nice to have a row boat to explore. 😪

Owner's Response: Donna, We placed the sleep masks nect to the bed for keeping the morning light out. We cannot lut a rowboat or any boat there, due to insurance. That is why we recommend renting a boat from Shady Cliff.

Beautiful home. Perfect getaway for my family!

  • 5 of 5

Had a great long weekend with my family. My girls loved that there were even movies in their room. They really did try to think of everything to make you feel at home. The only downside was there were no steps down to the dock. We were able to use the neighbors dock one late afternoon, and the lake was perfect for swimming. Although you did get some wake from passing boats, it was not enough to be worried about. Overall, it was the prefect weekend for our family. Thank you.

Amazing place

  • 4 of 5

First I want to explain that this would easily have been 5 stars if there were a couple of very minor things addressed. The cabin is absolutely beautiful. The cleaning lady was there when we arrived and was very nice and helpful. The cabin was spotless top to bottom. If you are traveling from a great distance, you can leave about half of what you think you need at home. We brought way too much stuff. Most everything you need will already be there, from washing detergent to fabric softener, paper towels, spices, coffee's all there for you. The area is very secluded and peaceful. There are about 5-6 cabins around you but there was only one that was occupied when we were there. The waterfall next to the cabin can be heard running day and night and gives the area a very tranquil feel. The views are spectacular. My only two complaints are the same as all the other reviews. I made my way down to the dock and only made it back up because someone tied a rope to the back of the cabin. The stairs simply have to be the #1 priority for the home owners. We were thinking of renting a boat but quickly decided not to due to the lack of dock accessibility. The only other minor complaint is the lack of a couch or any type of area to "cuddle up" and enjoy the views or a movie/TV show. I know that you can do that at home, but this is such a nice secluded place and so peaceful. A nice "cuddle" and nap would have been very welcome. This being said, we liked it so much that we are inquiring with the developer to possibly purchase our own cabin in the area. I would recommend this to anyone and be confident that you will thoroughly enjoy this cabin. Thank you Baileys for opening your home up to us.
