About the property

Adorable And Welcoming Rental Located In The Heart Of Hope Town

‘Adorable’ and ‘Welcoming’! This quaint home is superbly situated in the heart of the idyllic settlement of ‘Hope Town’ on Elbow Cay, Abaco; renowned for its iconic gas lighted, red and white candy-striped, lighthouse.

“Wee House” is located just steps away from the Post Office Dock, across from the Harbour, and just short walk away from a breathtaking beach. Our charming fully equipped vacation get-a-way space is tucked into the back of the historic “Wee House” cottage, sharing the front portion of the home with the highly reputable office of HG Christie Real Estate.

Situated on the Harbour, renters enjoy direct access to: tie off for loading and unloading a boat (rental boats are available), close proximity to public dock for easy use of ferry service, and tree shaded/seaside picnic area. Kayaking, wind surfing, fishing, boat charters, as well as bicycle and golf cart rentals are all within convenient reach to get you off and exploring the islands and waters of Abaco! This perfect little home provides an affordable and “unplugged” vacation experience without any worries yet, chock-a-block with amenities and options.

This cozy cottage is very clean and has been recently updated with new flooring. It offers sleeping space for 4 people to stay comfortably: with a double size futon in upstairs sitting area and a queen size bed in the adjacent main bedroom.

The 'Wee House' is a great value in this highly sought after vacation destination and comes with all the vacation “must-haves”! Revel in ‘vacation lounge mode’ with 2 flat screen TV's equipped with cable and DVD players (42” in living area and another flat screen in upstairs sitting area), Wi-Fi keeps you connected, local phone service, air-conditioning, automatic backup generator, hair dyer, coffee maker, fully-equipped kitchen with microwave, bottled water dispenser, movies, games, books, cards, beach towels, and small beach cooler all ensure you can make the most of your seaside stay.

In the mornings and evenings, drink in the beautiful view of this picturesque Harbour from the “Wee House” porch. Relax and unwind while you sip your morning coffee, dine al fresco, or enjoy stunning Abaco sunsets with your favorite beverage in hand – make sure to ‘hail’ (wave and greet) locals and visitors passing by on foot in this pedestrian only village.

Delicious and popular ‘Harbour’s Edge’ restaurant is just across the way. There you can dine on scrumptious meals prepared with local flavor and refreshing cocktails. Alluring footpaths lead to several additional nearby restaurants, shops, and a-must-see museum sits next door, all awaiting your discovery.

To make it easy on you, a cooler with bottled drinking water is provided, but make sure to still visit the little ‘convenience’ store known as - ‘Mr. Vernon’s’ - and indulge in some of his world famous fresh baked bread, pies, quotes and wisdom. Coffee from the local coffee shop – they roast it on the island – is a perfect accompaniment.

You will be enthralled with the 5-mile stretch of lovely uninterrupted beach just over the dune. Many fall in love here with the snorkeling, swimming and surfing in crystalline blue waters. Make sure to also take time for shelling and birding, or just relax and rejuvenate to the ‘soundtrack’ of sea.

Come visit Hope Town and enjoy your comfortable ‘Wee home’ in the heart of everything the area has to offer! We have many repeat renters who return year after year.

Island time at Wee House!

  • 5 of 5

Our favorite thing about the Wee House is it is centrally located to everything we like to do while visiting Hope Town. We've stayed on this island before and enjoyed everything about it, yet we were down in the South End which required a golf cart or bikes to get anywhere. You'll be able to walk to grab coffee at Hope Town Coffee House, groceries, fresh bread at Vernons, island libations at Arnold's Liquors, dine out at Sip, Sip Wine Bar, Harbor's Edge or Cap n Jacks, get to the beach, etc. all from here. The front porch (our favorite place) faces the harbor so you can watch the boats. On Saturdays, the farmers market is set up in the side yard of the playground right across the walkway. Staying at Wee House made us feel like we lived on the island. Adorable shops and galleries are in walking distance, too. Take a ferry/shuttle across the harbor and check out the lighthouse!

The home itself is adorable! Decorated with island colors and sayings on walls and pillows its got everything you'll need. Comfortable living space while you are there. Love that they provide beach chairs, towels - even an umbrella! We will definitley make our way back to this place!

Perfect location....needs TLC

  • 3 of 5

The location of this apartment is perfect. Air-conditioning cools the entire place when needed.

The pots and pans need to be replaced...rusted pans. The shower is just acceptable...

A good cleaning and removal of old magazines and brochures would upgrade the place.

In love with wee house!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I went for a romantic get away. We arrived at marsh harbour and found our luggage had been lost 😳 We were met by Patricia at the ferry dock and told her what had happened. She got us settled into the wee house then told us to enjoy our trip she would take care of it all. She went above and beyond spent the following day on the phone finding our luggage organizing getting it to us and even met us at the dock to assure it arrived safe. She was available to help us make reservations suggest fun places to visit! She was the best. The house was charming had everything we needed and the view from the porch each morning while we sipped coffee was perfect. Everything is a walk away. We will be back!!!

Wonderful little getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at the Wee House. It was just the right size for my husband and I and really was in the perfect location. We loved the porch and the view of the bay, and you were only steps away from the beautiful beach, restaurants, shops, and everything else. The house was wonderfully appointed with nice amenities, and the bottled water, wifi, and excellent air conditioning were very nice. The property manager was super helpful and available by phone for questions any time, even on the holiday weekend.

I will say that taller people will want to take extra precautions, as some of the ceilings are quite low. So pay attention or you will definitely bump your head. And I know the description says it sleeps 4, which it will, but it is very tight. A couple with smaller children may be ok, but I would recommend the cottage mostly to couples traveling alone.

And I would like to clarify, because I had some concerns about the property description that said the property shared a porch with HG Christie real estate office. I had the idea that I was going to be sharing that cute little porch with customers coming in and I couldn't find pictures online that made me feel any better. Yes, the Wee Cottage is located in the back half of a larger house. The front half is the real estate office, and the back half is the cottage. But there was nothing awkward about the shared space, as you enter the cottage from the back door, which has the adorable porch and great view. Now, granted, we were there on a holiday weekend, so the office was never open while we were there, but at no point did we feel like we were sharing our vacation home with a business. And since nothing opens early or stays open late in Hope Town, if you're on vacay you shouldn't be in the house during the day while the office would be open anyway. You should be out enjoying the islands!

We recommend renting biked from the shop immediately next door to explore the island, and then renting a boat from folks at Cat Paw boat rentals right across the harbor to explore the rest of the islands.

If we return to Hope Town, we would definitely rent the Wee Cottage again.

Car: not necessary

There are several beaches on Elbow Cay that are all accessible without a boat. The beaches on the island are covered in fine, white and pink sand, and the water is crystal clear.

One of the most popular things to do in the Abacos is hang out on the water. With the convenience of a boat, you can explore all the cays and their coves on your own schedule. You can also explore our underwater sea park; just grab some snorkel equipment and you are set!

Explore the entire island of Elbow Cay by renting a golf cart, or some bicycles. The island is very different from one end to the other. You might even find the perfect place to stay the next time you visit!

Kayaking is another great way to discover Elbow Cay and its surroundings by quietly becoming a part of nature. Abaco Eco offers guided tours, as well as rentals for those wishing to venture out on their own.

Whether you are looking for a Bonefishing Guide, or a Deep Sea Fishing Charter, there are several fishermen in Hope Town who offer these services.

Abaco is home to world-class sailing, and wonderful sailing conditions. Whether you have brought you own sailboat to the islands, or have chartered one locally, sailing through the cays is relaxing and beautiful.

Everyone should always make time to visit the lighthouse, one of Abaco’s most recognizable landmarks, in Hope Town. Located across the harbour, the Elbow Reef Lighthouse is one of the last manual lighthouses in the world.

Almost every night, there is a restaurant having their “bar night.” Generally, they have local DJ’s, live bands, or other fun events that start at around 8:00pm or 9:00pm, and last for a few hours.
