About Patricia Ann Murfin
I, Pam Murfin, and my life partner of 45 years, Don Gardner, are both Texas natives who have lived on Horseshoe Bend Ranch, full time, for over 35 years. During the course of this time we have raised two magnificent daughters, hundreds of animals and spent a good portion of our lives stewarding this land. Don is a certified consulting arborist with over 40 years experience. Our interests run far and wide, but we are happiest when sitting on the porch with a glass of ice tea surrounded by our loved ones.
Patricia Ann Murfin purchased this House in 1951
Why Patricia Ann Murfin chose Austin
Horseshoe Bend Ranch was purchased by William Minor Murfin, my father (Pam), when I was six. Since that time it has been a piece of my heart. I grew up riding horses over these hills and water skiing on this sparkling lake. When I was a child we would drink water straight from the lake! This beautiful hillside, overlooking the Colorado River (Lake Austin), was once a camp for Comanche natives and countless unnamed tribes before them. We have found hundreds of arrow heads and artifacts in evidence of this. The creek, a breathtaking natural limestone waterway that runs the length of the property, was once home to hundreds of honeybee colonies. Hence the name Honey Creek. Ancient native live oaks, pecans and junipers tower overhead, offering shade on this ranch named after the unique geographical location in which it is found. At one time our land was used for farming cattle, turkeys and Angora goats. Now our focus has turned to wildlife preservation. We are allowing the native vegetation to return, creating natural habitats for local fauna. This has helped foster an already amazing refuge for birdlife, making the property a perfect place for birdwatching. We are home to the endangered Golden Cheeked Warbler. This 260 acre, 4 generation property, is a one of a kind, true gem, amongst some of the last undeveloped Texas hill country.
What makes this House unique
First and foremost...beautiful Lake Austin, which is always cool and fresh. The perfect getaway for boating, swimming and fishing. Also, Horseshoe Bend Ranch has a stunning natural secluded cove, perfect for swimming, which leads up to the quintessential hill country limestone creek. Picnic under ancient live oaks. Enjoy the wildlife and excellent birdwatching among native plants and abundant wildflowers in spring. The entire house has a breathtaking view of Lake Austin, the bend in the river for which our ranch was named and the 1000 plus acre natural preserve that borders our property. In the heat of the day rest in the cool house and at night cozy up by the fire place. You can enjoy the full front balconies with epic daytime views and unparalleled star gazing at night. We are but minutes from all amenities and only 20 miles from downtown Austin, but you will feel like you are on your own private piece of Hill Country paradise.

Beautiful old home
Lovely home right on Lake Michigan and great hospitality exhibited by our host.
My wife and I are both in our 70s. We were staying at a vrbo on Lake Austin for a month. The third night we were there we experienced a plumbing leak that would require us to move out in less than 24 hours. We found this place on Lake Austin after a frantic search. The owner was extremely accommodating and made the place ready on very short notice. It is a beautiful spot sitting high up above the river. We spent many days reading while looking out over the lovely hill country and boats going by in the river. Our daughters both came to visit while we were there and it was very comfortable for all of us as well as one hyperactive pooch. Great gathering room with a large fireplace perfect for a family gathering. The only negative was the sporadic tv reception and sparse number of channels. On the other hand the peace and quiet that resulted was an added bonus. If you are looking for peace and quiet and a beautiful place to enjoy it. This is it.
Located only five miles away, is the major recreational mecca of Lakeway, on Lake Travis. Offering everything from scuba diving, boating, water skiing and sailing to golf, tennis and health spas. Austin, the live music capital of the world, is only 20 miles away. Here you'll find world renowned festivals such as South by Southwest and Austin City Limits Festival. As well as hundreds of excellent restaurants and live music every day of the week.
