About Claudia Hart

My dad purchased this land when he returned to the U.S. after serving in WWII. His dad and brother thought he was crazy for wanting to buy property 25 miles from home (Marquette) - keep in mind this was in the late 1940's! Thank goodness my dad didn't listen to them! When I was a child, all we had was an outhouse and a picnic table on the property. How we loved to get in the car on hot summer nights and take pasties to Big Bay to sit on the beach and have our supper. It wasn't until the 1960's when my dad built a small camp. By that time, I was in junior high and all my friends loved coming to my camp for the weekend. We would waterski all day and my parents welcomed all of my friends. Dad spent most of the day back then in our small boat pulling us around the lake on waterskiis - how he loved that we all loved his beloved Squaw Beach property. The small camp was added on as the years went by. As my parents aged, they deeded the property to me (my sister moved to the East coast and chose not to have ownership). By 2007, a major remodel or I should say, complete rebuild, took place. I practically leveled the place with my dad's blessing and built what is now our 2-story vacation home that you see in the pictures. This is where my two children enjoyed their summers and weekends with grandma and grandpa. In fact, my 25-year old daughter, who now lives in Seattle, has such special memories here and love for her grandfather, she will be getting married on the front lawn on what would be her grandpa's 89th birthday in September 2015. Our family celebrates Christmas there every year with our 15' tree. I am so thankful that my wonderful dad had 3 awesome years enjoying the new home before he passed. This was his pride and joy throughout the years and he would be so happy that we are able to share it with all of our guests from around the country. I know you will enjoy it as much as our family has for the past 65+ years.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had such a great time at Big Bay this past week. Our family of 7 was overwhelmingly happy with the accommodations! The property was immaculate, well stocked, updated and more than comfortable. Two big sectional couches with 4 built in recliners and one "Ubercliner" that only the most deserving was allowed to be in! Everyone was relaxed and happy from the moment we walked in. The beach was easily accessible and clean, the views were beautiful from all angles. The back deck and area around the fire pit was where we spent most of our time taking in the breathtaking views of Big Bay. The kitchen was fully functional and very well stocked with pots pans small appliances etc. Bathrooms with towels provided and plenty of hot water. The house felt like a home and not a "rental". Our host, Claudia, was accessible, responsive and very helpful. You really could feel there was a lot of tradition here. We didn't use the sauna this time around but will next year. What a great place to stay! If you can't relax here you don't deserve a vacation!

What a great week, this home offered lots of views and great areas for a large family!

  • 5 of 5

Our first family vacation with all 3 families was perfectly hosted by the space provided. We loved kayaking on the sunny days, and sight-seeing on the not so sunny days. Loved the beach, deck, and fire pit. Marquette was close by for anything we forgot and there were lots of trails for 4-wheeling. The beds were comfortable, and with 6 kids along we appreciated the laundry available. Loved the historical pamphlets to learn about the area. Thank you.

We really enjoyed our stay at your house in Aug. 2016. With our group of 13 we felt we had plenty of room. The property was clean and inviting. We usually camp so we really enjoyed all the comforts of home along with the beautiful view of Lake Superior and great sandy beach. We enjoyed sitting on the deck to watch the beautiful sunsets and sitting around the campfire long into the night. We appreciated your hospitality. You have a beautiful home. We definitely recommend your house to anyone wanting to get away from city life

Beautiful, spacious home on a private and gorgeous sandy beach

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this Big Bay beach house. The house was very spacious and bright, the kitchen was big, clean and very functional, the bedrooms were large and the beds were VERY comfortable. The home is even more beautiful than the pictures show. The best part, though, was the gorgeous and very private sandy beach. Our kids (1 and 3) loved playing in the water and sand and it was so convenient to be able to just walk up a small set of stairs back to the house for a snack or a break from the sun. We are already thinking about our next trip to Big Bay!

Perfect week in a perfect house!

  • 5 of 5

We just loved our stay at this house!! It was beautiful! The house is light and open and has an outstanding view of Lake Superior! The beach is sandy, no rocks like on many other beaches. We rent a house every year with our family and this was the best we had! The picture don't do the house and property justice, it's much prettier. This was a perfect stay 😃

Perfect Place for our family get away.

  • 5 of 5

Loved this place and it was perfect for our family. The Lake Superior beach was amazing and right off the deck. We had beautiful weather and few bugs. The house was clean and large but intimate with a great kitchen and multiple gathering areas. The kitchen was perfect. We were very close to dining, hiking, and other northwoods recreational fun. Claudia was extremely hospitable and we are considering going again next year. 5 stars!

Well-maintained. Wonderful beds. Kitchen had excellent appliances and everything needed.

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful beach, decks and seating. House had comfortable furniture and ample room for a group of nine. Kayaks were a bonus. Proximity to waterfalls and hiking, shopping in Marquette a plus. If you don't mind a 2 1/2 hr trip/lunch, would suggest Quincy Mine tour and lunch at fish shanty and market across road from mine. Beautiful sunrises/sunsets for photographers from the home's beach. Would recommend this property.
