About Gina Russo & Brent & Dru Hall

This house was built in 1954 as a 2 bedroom, 1 bath summer residence. In the 1970’s, our uncle purchased it for his parents, our grandparents, who had often vacationed at the beach, and loved the sea breezes and quiet lifestyle of San Clemente.

After they moved in our uncle and his brother, our Papa, got busy with some remodeling. They added the master bath, dining room (now the game room), and loft. And a covered patio was enclosed creating a laundry area and nook.

Before our grandparents passed, our Papa moved in to help care for them and the house. After their passing, our father lived here, welcoming family and friends, creating delicious meals, and sharing his love for great music.

When our Papa passed he left this house for us, his children. He wanted us to keep it in the family and continue the tradition of gathering, enjoying good food, music and each other.

We’ve upgraded some things, but kept the original charm of this beach home. The kitchen was original, and needed major updating, so that’s where we started. What we have now is all new, including the kitchen door for easy access to the herb garden and fruit trees. Dining space was another issue. Whenever we visited as children, the nook was the place where we gathered for meals. Everyone would just squeeze in on the window benches to make room for one more, so it made sense to make that our dedicated dining area, and eliminate the formal dining room. We toyed with ideas for the now empty dining room space and decided we needed something for entertainment when the beach wasn’t beckoning and the pool table kind of fell into our lap. The fun part was choosing cabinets, paint, flooring,

… And putting it all together!

We hope you’ll sign the guest register and let us know what you think, and return to see our progress as new projects unfold.

Excellent Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Much needed family getaway that was a perfect location and place for us!

Very peaceful, relaxing, comfortable and had everything we needed! The short hike to the beach brought us down at least twice a day for a beautiful walk or bike ride. Played several games of pool and watched a movie every evening! Owners and Cesar were very accommodating and extremely to work with! We look forward to another getaway sometime!

Thank you so much! Dianne, Adrian and Daniel

Perfect location and accommodations for our needs

  • 5 of 5

Our family (6 adults) found this vacation home to be perfect for our 7-night stay in late December and early January. We were in California for three family gatherings taking place in Carlsbad and Newport Beach and this home in San Clemente was nicely positioned for fairly short drives to both cities. The home itself really fitted us "to a T". There was a loft area which accommodated 2 of our group comfortably and privately. My husband and I won the draw for the beautiful Master Bedroom with ensuite bath/shower! Everyone enjoyed the "gathering places" including a very cozy living room with comfortable seating that encouraged conversation, a "sun room" that we used primarily for breakfast gatherings and reading on the benches next to the windows, and a "playroom" with a pool table for those interested in a game or two! We found the kitchen well appointed and enjoyed the little counter area with the bar stools very convenient! It was fairly chilly while we were there (we're from Hawaii) but we still enjoyed sitting on the front and side patios in the sunshine and caught a few beautiful sunsets too!

The home is located only a very short walk to the steps down to the beach walk. We really enjoyed walking to the pier and some of the surfing beaches from there. There are also some great restaurants in San Clemente town...our favorite for breakfast was Antoine's!

Lastly, Cesar Acosta, the property concierge was great to work with. He answered all of my many questions and made sure to be there when we arrived and check up on us via text during our stay to make sure everything was ok. Our security deposit was refunded promptly per the rental agreement. Mahalo Cesar!

GREAT VRBO!!

  • 5 of 5

Just stayed here for 3 weeks and it was incredible. The owners have thought this one out very well and the house had everything except my clothes and toothbrush which I brought with me. It even had fresh tomatoes and fruit (orange, figs, kumquat, pomegranate, herbs) to enjoy daily growing all around the property. The front patio has a peaceful view of the ocean- perfect for morning coffee and meals, the back patio was great for privacy or escaping the sun in the front patio. The house was quite cozy and very clean throughout and the management company was quick to respond to being out of propane for the grill.

The only knocks I can give the house is there are a lot of stairs from the street to get in the house, the driveway is very short and inclined so our cars were sticking in to the street but it was never an issue. Street parking was never an issue on this quiet street which was great, and the gas range seemed (but wasn't) dangerous as the burners were designed very oddly by Miele to be sticking up very high for just the pot to stand on- maybe some grates were missing or maybe that is the design- not sure, never saw that model before. None of these knocks would prevent me from renting this home again- it was a peaceful and relaxing long vacation getaway and we had no issues with the house which has been rare for all the vrbo's we have stayed in lately.

Awesome place to stay

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for a week with our nieces, and it was great. The place is very clean and comfortable, and the outside space with the garden is great. Because of when we came, it got pretty toasty in the afternoon, but opening all the window and doors provided a breeze that made it manageable. The only real knock on the place (and this certainly is no fault of the owners) was that the beach access was closed for construction, so you had to walk an couple hundred yards to the other stairs. I know, huge tragedy. Awesome town, beautiful house, best vacation ever.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the 5-star review Matt! We are happy to report that the beach access stairs will be completed in December!

Lovely Home

  • 4 of 5

This house had lots of space for our family of 4, including a great kitchen. The loft is especially cozy, and was a great place to relax after a long day. Note that it's also the only place you can safely play with an infant on the floor.

We felt very welcomed here. We also had an opportunity to meet one of the owners, who was very nice. I would recommend this rental to others.
