About the property

High Bank waterfront cottage in a quiet, high-end setting with 5 star views.

The Beach House is both close to shopping and restaurants and is very quiet and private. The loudest noise is often the sound of a commercial fishing boat netting salmon just off the beach. The master bedroom has a king sized bed and the second bedroom has a queen bed. The third bed is set up in sofa sleeper, which contains a queen mattress. Each of the two bedroom is connected to a bathroom. The bathroom for the second bedroom can also be accessed from the kitchen.

The deck is accessed through double french doors next to the kitchen as well as private entry from the master bedroom. A Weber gas grill is provided on the deck.

The best views in the house are from the master bedroom but you can listen to the waves and watch the sailboats from the deck off the kitchen, or from the living room. The house has a lot of light, with windows lining the East and South walls, which both face the water. As a result the house is cheery (it may sound like a clichee but having lived in this house for 20 years I know it's true). The house is very popular on weekends so I reserve the right to wait to accept single night bookings on Friday and Saturday nights until a week before the booking date.

About Andy Garrett

I moved out to the Seattle area right after college with my wife.We bought this property in 1990 and started building two years later. We raised our two children here and now we live in the area, having started new lives apart. Our children are both in college so the house needs fresh occupants. I still operate the industrial supply business I started twenty some years ago, as well as manage several properties in nearby cities.

Why Andy Garrett chose Gig Harbor

We bought this property when there was only a single house in the neighborhood. I was flying regularly for business and needed a reasonable airport commute and, having just moved from a 44' boat, wanted a home that offered a great water view and privacy. We coudn't have done better. The Beach House is a very unusual, located in a small, upscale neighborhood on a private, unconnected street and yet very private and quiet. The property is 1.5 acres in size and includes 145 ft. of private waterfront and beach.

What makes this cottage unique

No doubt about it, what makes this home special is it's views and access to the water. When the tide is out you can walk the beach all the way into Gig Harbor (about three miles along the shore). From town you can rent a kayak and paddle to the house, have lunch, and paddle back before dark. I've done it many a time. Salmon migrate past the beach and the purse seiners (commercial fishing boats) will actually take turns setting their nets just off the beach. This happens every October and November but the salmon run about five months of the year. If you want to get a license bring your gear and try your luck from shore, or rent a power boat in town and work a wider area.

  • Master bedroom has a king bed and plenty of extra space. You won't feel cramped. It connects on one side to the deck. The other side is connected to a dressing area with a small walk-in closet as well as the bathroom which includes a tub/shower and linen closet. We provide a portable crib for guests upon request and generally the crib will be set up in the master bedroom because there is ample space.

Notes:
Private beach included on property. Because the house is 'high bank' there is a good hike to reach the beach and returning to the house requires an energetic uphill walk. About 400 ft of elevation but that's what makes the view so great.

A Million $ View in a Million $ Neighborhood

We've been on the road for over 2 months, and this place was by far our favorite house. It is located outside Gig Harbor, right on the water, in a small subdivision of of gorgeous houses. It is small, but feels much bigger than its square footage as a result of high ceilings and windows everywhere.

The views are amazing from the bedroom-- and you can spend hours sitting in bed just looking out at the water, and you can do the same from the small balcony on the side of the house. (There are shades on every window in case the sun wakes you).

The kitchen is well stocked and has everything we needed-- even a dishwasher. And, the washer and dryer are large and first class-- a welcome change from the dinky stacked units typically found in rental houses.

The walk to the beach takes about 15 minutes, and while there are some unsteady spots, just about anyone who can climb a hill can do it with no problem. The beach is of the rocky type, but is still great for walking on, shell collecting, and just sitting and watching the boats and the wildlife.

Andy was easy to reach and accommodating-- we had no issues with a last-minute early check in when we hit town earlier than we thought.

Be sure to walk or drive around the little subdivision to see all the really cool houses in your rental neighborhood.

We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Nice but could use a fresh coat of paint on inside.

House was comfortable but it needs a deep overall cleaning. Floors were very dirty. Only one window opened in living room area. Only one window in bedroom opened. Owner needs to provide fans.

Great views, quiet, peaceful, wonderful location. We have been visiting Seattle annually for many years, this was our first stay in Gig Harbour, and it is now our absolute favorite location to stay in the Seattle area. Andy was great...he made sure we had all we needed to enjoy our stay. We will try to return net year!

Perfect getaway!

This house is terrific, even better than the photos suggest! On clear days, there's even a stunning view of Mt. Rainier from the master bedroom and the deck outside the kitchen.

It's located just outside of town, about a 6-8 minute drive, in a gorgeous, very quiet neighborhood with a lot of trees. The house is spacious and comfortable with lots of light and attractive details, especially the beautiful hardwood floors. The master bedroom is large and the bed was very comfy. Plenty of closet space.

The house comes stocked with almost everything that you'll need (note: if you like having bar soap bring your own, though there's plenty of shampoo, shower gel, etc provided). The refrigerator wasn't working during our visit; Andy provided a cooler and we bought ice. It wasn't a big deal since we ate out each night.

If you're traveling with dogs, it's a great choice. We loved walking our pup on the quiet street in the neighborhood and there are several large dog-friendly parks with miles of trails within a 30-60 min drive. One note: there were a few mouse traps in the master bathroom under the cabinets - we saw zero evidence of mice during our stay but moved them out of the way of our pup.

Some of our favorite spots in town: Millville Pizza (eat in or take out) has amazing pizza, salads and enormous, delicious chocolate chip cookies ($1!); the Harbor General Store has great coffee and acai bowls for breakfast; Gertie and the Giant Octopus is a wonderful tapas restaurant in the Safeway complex.

Great place but disappointing experience

I agree with other reviews raving about the view and nice house. I was disappointed in three ways:

1) Andy told us when we were on the way to Gig Harbor that the refrigerator wasn't working properly but he would get a new one in the next day. It was too complicated and so we had to use our ice chest the whole time. It was inconvenient and we lost some of our food.

2) The driveway is quite slick with dust and light gravel. One of our party was badly

injured falling on the driveway and others, myself included, found it slippery.

3) Andy did ask how he could make things right the second day but I was unable to think things out enough to give an answer. Later, I asked for a partial discount and did not receive a response. I am not claiming Andy is responsible for the injury but conditions could be much safer and the lack of refrigerator in a VRBO is unacceptable. I would be interested to hear from other guests if you think my request for a partial refund is reasonable.

The Beach House is three miles outside Gig Harbor, an historic fishing town which today is home to a local commercial fishing fleet. The local Maritime Museum documents that history and the lifestyle of the time when the the Harbor was primarily a fishing village. The town now is a vibrant community with excellent shopping, restaurants, parks, and recreational rental business. Rent a sailboat, kayak, powerboat, or roadbike nearby and take advantage of the exceptional views and great water and bike routes. The Cascade Mountain range is about 50 miles to the east and offers snowboarding, downhill and cross country skiing. There is world class hiking at Mt. Raineer to the East or Hurricane Ridge to the West. The Bremerton Ferry, 40 minutes away, travels to downtown Seattle daily and takes both cars and foot traffic. By car, Seattle is just an hour away and Tacoma just 20 minutes.
