Cozy 2BR/1.5 Bath Uptown/Freret

Bedrooms 2

Space 800 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

This Cozy Apt. Has 2 Separate Bedrooms, 1.5 Bath And A Well Appointed Kitchen.

This apartment is a lower unit in a fourplex near Freret St. It is newly renovated (2015). The foyer serves as a small office, library and a place to sit and meditate or read one of the many books provided. There is a living room with a full-sized sleep sofa with a new memory foam mattress, two separate bedrooms, dining room, newly remodeled kitchen with granite counter tops, stainless steel refrigerator and new dishwasher. One bathroom is a full bath with shower and the rear is a half bath.

The first bedroom has a full-sized bed, chest and closet; and the second bedroom has a queen-sized bed, chest and closet. Because this is a small apartment, for comfort, the maximum number of adult occupants is 5. In the past 6 adults have tried to share the space but some found it too confining. Your comfort level is the determining factor. The living room and back bedroom have 32" televisions and DVD players. There is a collection of movies and music CDs for your enjoyment. The back yard has been landscaped and now has two patio areas - one area seats 4 and the other seats 6.

Guests will have a kitchen with pots/pans, dishes and flatware for 8, coffee maker, blender, toaster oven, and waffle iron. There is an energy efficient washer and dryer for your use. The cabinets are stocked with condiments, salt/pepper, spices, sugar, honey, coffee and tea. Extra sheets, towels, and blankets also provided.

Freret Street is located Uptown and is dubbed the Freret Arts and Entertainment District. It is an area that is experiencing revitalization to bring it back to its former glory. The Freret Corridor is just 8 blocks long but can claim great restaurants, cafes, a bakery, unique bar and other local flavors. Every April, the Freret Street Festival blocks the street for food trucks, musicians and over 200 vendors. The first Saturday of each month, at the corner of Napoleon and Freret is the Freret Street Market. The market is divided into food, art and flea, and is a great place to explore, eat and enjoy the music. Eat too much? Stop in at Anytime Fitness, open 24/7. Explore BrottWork Design Studio to see custom art glass or Freret Clay Center nearby. From the apartment it is just 7 blocks to St. Charles Ave. which is a major parade route during Mardi Gras. The St. Charles streetcar takes you to downtown, the Convention Center, Harrah's Casino and the French Quarters. It's 2.5 miles from the Super Dome and just a 15 min. walk to Tulane and Loyola Universities. For Jazz Fest, the Fairgrounds are just 5.17 miles away by car. Oshner/Baptist Hospital is a few blocks away.

A manager lives in one of the lower units and is available as needed. Guests are encouraged to enjoy themselves and party responsibly. If you are the type who would prefer to stay in the Quarters, then this is not the place for you. Come, enjoy the City. Hopefully this will be a place you will enjoy coming to at the end of the revelry.

The bus stop is at the corner. It is a 20-30 min. drive from the airport depending on traffic. One off-street parking space is provided for our guests.

Currently only two of the apartments are rented. Guests are expected to respect the privacy and atmosphere of the building. Party responsibly. Talk with me first about pets as they may be allowed. Smoking outside ONLY.

Before you book, PLEASE send me a message telling me about who you are, the purpose of your visit, and the guests who will be traveling with you. I appreciate knowing with whom I am communicating about the rental.

About Elaine Armour-Word

Years ago I made a promise to a friend. I told her I would come out of retirement and help her if she became a principal. Guess what? She did...and I did! In June 2014, I completed my 40th year of teaching (OMG). I now serve as the Computer Coordinator for grades 2nd - 5th grade students.

I was born and raised in New Orleans. Graduated from St. Mary's Academy when it was in the French Quarters (long, long time ago). Moved to Los Angeles, CA to attend college and now live in the Bay Area. But, I still call NOLA home and come every 2 - 3 months. My husband and I love to travel. We have sailed most of the caribbean islands with friends, traveled Europe, South America and Africa. Paris is my most favored city. Since we travel with friends, we always rent apartments and prefer that to staying in hotels. I have tried to incorporate all of the good things I like about traveling and staying in homes to the space I have created for you because I want my guests to be comfortable, feel cared about and satisfied when you leave my special get-away home.

I am an avid reader with a library of over 700 books, most of them hardbacks. I have placed a number of them on the bookcase for my guests to enjoy. In my spare time I crochet, make jewelry, garden and feed a host of friends.

I love the theater and see a minimum of 3 shows per year, including a few operas. There is also a collection of music and movies for guests to enjoy.

My Life's Motto: I believe that no matter what, things are in divine order in the universe. There is no greater power than Love and appreciation. I give thanks for all blessings - those I have received in the past - those I have now, in the present - and those I will have in the future. Thank you for considering and/or booking. Ma maison est votre maison.

Why Elaine Armour-Word chose Feret

After Katrina the New Orleans Redevelopment Agency (NORA) set about restoring sections of the city to its previous glory. Freret Street is now being redeveloped with new streets and new businesses. It is the new up-and-coming 'hip' area of N.O. and in a few years will rival popular Oak Street. It is walking distance to St. Charles Ave and the streetcar line as well as Tulane and Loyola Universities. The streetcar line will take you through a scenic route directly to downtown, the French Quarters, and Harrah's Casino. It's also a short distance to the Super Dome.

What makes this apartment unique

Originally my husband and I, along with a few friends, thought about buying a place in Paris. We soon realized that was just a beautiful fantasy and wasn't going to happen. So, I have created my 'Paris' apartment here in my hometown - The Big Easy. It's a special place to me and it will be my pleasure to share it with others who love this city as much as I do.

Cute, home with a convenient location

  • 4 of 5

Everything was easy access with Uber from our location and we could walk to several restaurants if we wanted to stick around the home.

Adorable place

  • 5 of 5

I loved this location. It was close to many different restaurants. It was easy to get to places that we needed to go to. Only complaint was the construction on Jefferson but it was easy to navigate around it all. We felt safe to run in the evening. We did a kayak in the swamp and loved it!! Thank you for our stay in New Orleans.

What a great experience !

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this warm, welcoming home. I say warm as in atmosphere, the central air conditioning really kept us comfortable and cool. Excellent location within walking distance of many fun things to do. Elaine is the best ! Made sure all our needs were met. Her home was clean, safe, well equipped, comfortable and a quiet place after long days of exploring. We whole heartily recommend !!

Welcoming and Responsive!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five (parents and three teenagers), descended upon New Orleans for a weekend before taking a Carnival cruise. We really didn't plan much in advance, beyond finding a place to stay. We arrived hours later than expected but were completely taken care of by Elaine. We had never rented through VRBO before, and did not really know what to expect. But this experience has completely transformed how we look at traveling. If every VRBO were like Elaine's, the hotels will all go out of business. She has everything you might need, more than we could use if we stayed a month! From luxury linen to bathroom products to sun screen to a stapler (which we used). She stocked the fridge with a few complimentary sodas and water bottles, which was very much appreciated after a long drive. The beds were comfortable, the apartment is much larger than the photos show, the location is good.... we would take the 30 minute bus ride for $1.25 into the French Quarter (stop is right across the street diagonal from her place) or take Uber for $12-$18 for 5 people. The neighborhood around the apt is also nice, there are many restaurants and cafes nearby. The only suggestion we have to make is to label the parking spots. There was a little confusion about where to park and we were blocked in once. But one quick phone call to Elaine and it was quickly taken care of. She was very welcoming and responsive. We will definitely stay here again if ever in NOLA again

Loved our stay in Uptown!

  • 5 of 5

We were in town for Tulane graduation. This location was good for us, everything was clean and all our needs were met. The owner was very responsive, as was the property manager. The arrival and departure went perfectly smooth, and all the information we needed was there. This was a great stay for us and I definitely recommend this property to anyone visiting New Orleans! Thanks!
