About Debra Cramer Anderson

My Mom, Martha Cramer, who is co-owner of the property, was born and raised in Transylvania County; but raised my sister and me in Fort Pierce, Florida. I lived there for 28 years, but loved coming to the mountains every summer to visit family and friends. Finally, in May of 1984, I moved here permanently, where I met my wonderful husband, Bill. I can't imagine living anywhere else ever again and love it here.

Debra Cramer Anderson purchased this house in 2006

Why Debra Cramer Anderson chose Smoky Mountains

I knew the family that lived here before, and always waved to them on their front porch as I went by. The home we live in is up on a mountain at the dead end where we don't see any people -- just wildlife. So, I always thought it would be nice to live in Rosman, where I would know everyone.

What makes this house unique

I love the front porch and the back yard. It is wonderful to sit outside and listen to the birds. Then, in the evenings, it is mesmerizing to watch the flames dance in the fire pit and listen to the waterfall feature. I like that it is just 'a stone's throw' from the IGA store, the post office and Champion Park where everyone puts their kayaks, canoes and tubes in the French Broad River to spend a couple of hours or a day floating on the river. We are only 8 miles southwest of Brevard, and can be there in less than 15 minutes and be in the 'big city' of Asheville, NC in about 40 minutes.

Cozy, comfortable and clean! Debbie has it set up very nicely!

  • 5 of 5

Cozy, comfortable and clean! Kitchen was well stocked with dishes/ pots and pans for cooking. We especially enjoyed the swing on the front porch, which was great to enjoy our coffee in the morning. We also appreciated the bikes and tubes that were available for our use. My kids really enjoyed floating down the French Broad on Saturday. The back yard is very nice also. Listening to the water fall was very peaceful. Thank you Debbie for a wonderful stay in Rosman!

Guests like your family are a real pleasure to interact with and have stay at our home. Maybe on your next visit, we won't have so much rain!

Not bad

  • 3 of 5

Host was very helpful, well stocked for minor essentials and as we have one handicap individual it was beneficial to have handicap ramp, chair and toilet accommodations. I was disappointed in location as I was thinking it was more secluded and hadn't noticed address as "Main St". The a/c was limited to living room/dining/kitchen so unless you left doors open the humidity was too heavy. One bed sunk in middle so we had to exchange it with one of our family members. The outside was showing signs of deteriation, rotten boards, three rails disconnected on front deck. In other words - we won't be going back there.

Owner's Response: We really hate that you found your accommodations at A Stone’s Throw less than accommodating. We try hard to let our guests know where the home is located and what the area is like. On VRBO the banner for our description that precedes everything else states: “Escape to the Land of Waterfalls, and ‘ENJOY SMALL TOWN LIFE”. Another description says that guests are able to “Wave to the neighbors from the front porch as they pass by. No one is a stranger in Rosman!” There are at least two photos reflecting Main Street in front of the house. There are over a half dozen photos of the front and back yards. Upon your arrival and expressing your displeasure with the home’s location, we did offer to refund your rental charge in its entirety, which you refused. You chose to stay there instead. Since we don’t live in this home, we rely on our guests to let us know if they find something that is not suitable. So, thank you for telling us there were exactly three loose balustrades on the front porch handrail. As stated in our property’s description, this is an older home and we welcome when someone tells us. Previous guests have left us a note on the dining room table. One of the bedrooms does have a portable room air conditioner in addition to the 20,000 btu air conditioner in the living room. That was nice of either your daughter or the grandkids to change rooms with you. We tried hard to accommodate your husband’s disabilities by providing him with a portable raised handicapped seat for the toilet. We just wish you had fulfilled your agreement to put it back the way you found it, rather than leaving it a mess our housekeeper wouldn’t even clean. We hope that for future visits to our area, you will be able to find more exacting handicap accommodations for the number of people at reasonable rates during a holiday.

Clean, quiet home with excellent yard. Great location

  • 5 of 5

A Stone's Throw was a wonderful rental home. The house has all you need and then some. The yard is large with plenty of room to sit and enjoy the quiet neighborhood and weather. Our beagle loved being able to sniff and run to her heart's content. The front porch is a nice place to sit after a day of hiking, biking or shopping. The location is close to Brevard and Dupont. There are several places to eat right in town with friendly staff. Debbie is very accommodating and will help you if needed at any time. She responded quickly to e-mails. We would definitely stay here again when returning to North Carolina.

Owner's Response: It was a real pleasure having you and your family stay at A Stone's Throw. Thank you for all your kind words about it. I think the large backyard with the shade trees and the fire pit, the little feature waterfall, etc. is about my favorite part. I enjoy watching the birds and squirrels feed, too. Glad you had a safe trip home, and hope to see you on your next vacation!

Peaceful, relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Spent five relaxing, peaceful days in a wonderful little house, with everything we needed. The yard was perfect. Our little malti-poo sniffed to her heart's content. So convenient to family and friends. Acted like tourists and explored Brevard, something that we haven't had time to do in a long time. Thank you for your hospitality. We saw the white squirrel!. We will be back.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words, Martha. We are so glad you were close to your families and could easily visit with them. One of these days, I, too, would like to "play" like a tourist and really check out our downtown area. There are quite a few new shops I've not had a chance to go into. We do look forward to your visit the next time you are in our area.

Great for dogs and persons with mobility difficulties

  • 5 of 5

This rental is a much better value than you'll ever find in nearby Brevard, which is only ten minutes North on a well maintained paved highway. We've stayed here several times, in all seasons, while looking for a retirement home to purchase. The backyard is securely fenced and huge (almost an acre) - great for our dogs. A wheelchair ramp descends from the rear porch (where the grill is located) to the back yard. We frequently cooked hot-dogs over a fire in the backyard, which was well-manicured and attractive - comfortable outdoor furniture. The house was always neat and clean - no carpets - easy to maintain. Everything always worked well. The in-wall air-conditioning unit kept the house as cool as we wanted, so we didn't need to use the second (portable) air-conditioning unit. The furnace worked great in the winter (no odor or fumes). The owner, Debbie, was gracious and accommodating. For example, she picked up flowers I had ordered for my wife and had them on the dining table before our arrival on Mother's day, and loaned us a cell-phone that got better service than ours (Verizon is the carrier that works best at this location). There is a municipal park/picnic area on the French Broad River about 1/2 mile down the street from the house -- good for dog walks -- and several State parks are within an easy drive. (There is a little known "back-entrance" to Gorges State Park near Rosman, on Frozen Creek Rd, which has a great trail for biking. hiking or dog-walks and few visitors at that location.) Bikes and tubes are provided for those who want them. Rosman, where the house is located, has very little in the way of amenities, but there is a small IGA grocery store just three blocks from the house. Brevard is an easy drive though, where you can find all the entertainment/restaurants/bakeries/shots, etc. that you would want.

Evacuation Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My 16 year old son and two dogs had to evacuate from Hilton Head Island because of Hurricane Matthew. My husband, a firefighter, had to stay behind. Due to the extreme damage on the island, we had to be away longer than expected and one small hotel room was NOT working. I was so fortunate to find this little gem of a home. It was one of the cleanest rentals I have ever been in and the large fenced-in backyard was exactly what we needed. Debra couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating and really helped me through such an incredibly stressful time! We have been vacationing in the NC mountains for many years and would certainly consider staying here again...hopefully under better circumstances!

Escape to A Stone’s Throw, the peaceful and comfortable home you can use as your base of operations while you experience all that Transylvania County, NC has to offer. Located midway between Brevard and Lake Toxaway, you are almost in the center of the county. The vacation home is just “a stone’s throw” away from all the outdoor activities that are offered. Three bedrooms and one bath, this older home offers cleanliness and comfort and has just recently been updated.

Situated on almost an acre of fenced in yard, there is ample parking for your boat or RV, a couple of outbuildings and a carport to store your mountain bikes or kayaks. Your children or pet will enjoy being able to play in the huge fenced-in yard. Along with lots of shade, the yard also offers a gas barbecue grill, picnic table, outdoor dining table and chairs, a fire pit and a waterfall feature to enjoy after you are through exploring the area.

Enjoy your morning coffee on the large front porch and wave to the friendly townspeople as they pass by. Sit in one of the rockers and just rest or take a break in the porch swing.

So far our guests tell us they love the ambience of the small town, the well-equipped kitchen, the wireless high speed internet, the 42” flat screen television with satellite, the cleanliness and coziness of the home. After a day of hiking, kayaking or looking at one of the county’s 250 waterfalls, you can relax with the well-stocked inventory of books to read, DVD and VCR movies, games and puzzles. A Stone’s Throw is a dream for those with pets and children.

A Stone’s Throw is handicap accessible with a ramp at the back of the home. The doors are 36” wide and there is a grab bar in the bathroom. The floors are all hardwood and the front porch is accessible from inside the home with a ramp.

The French Broad River is approximately 250’ from the front door of the house across the school’s practice field. The headwaters of the river are a mile upstream; but Champion Park in Rosman is where most people access the river with their kayaks, canoes and tubes. A Stone’s Throw is within walking distance of Champion Park, the grocery store, the post office, the town’s swimming pool and a few charming stores.

Experience your vacation in the small mountain town of Rosman, North Carolina, located 8 miles west of Brevard, the county seat. Rosman is half way between Lake Toxaway and Brevard. A little known surprise for most people, Rosman is a small town with a big heart. The population is only 586 and the town has two stoplights.
