Three bedroom, one bath, that sleeps six easily. A Stone's Throw is an older home with character which has recently been updated. There is almost an acre of fenced in yard for your children and pets to play in, as well as nice outside sitting areas, a fire pit and picnic tables with plenty of shade. There is room to park your RV, motorcycles or bicycles. A carport and a shed is included for your convenience. Wave to the neighbors from the front porch as they pass by. No one is a stranger in Rosman!
My Mom, Martha Cramer, who is co-owner of the property, was born and raised in Transylvania County; but raised my sister and me in Fort Pierce, Florida. I lived there for 28 years, but loved coming to the mountains every summer to visit family and friends. Finally, in May of 1984, I moved here permanently, where I met my wonderful husband, Bill. I can't imagine living anywhere else ever again and love it here.
Debra Cramer Anderson purchased this house in 2006
I knew the family that lived here before, and always waved to them on their front porch as I went by. The home we live in is up on a mountain at the dead end where we don't see any people -- just wildlife. So, I always thought it would be nice to live in Rosman, where I would know everyone.
I love the front porch and the back yard. It is wonderful to sit outside and listen to the birds. Then, in the evenings, it is mesmerizing to watch the flames dance in the fire pit and listen to the waterfall feature. I like that it is just 'a stone's throw' from the IGA store, the post office and Champion Park where everyone puts their kayaks, canoes and tubes in the French Broad River to spend a couple of hours or a day floating on the river. We are only 8 miles southwest of Brevard, and can be there in less than 15 minutes and be in the 'big city' of Asheville, NC in about 40 minutes.
This rental is a much better value than you'll ever find in nearby Brevard, which is only ten minutes North on a well maintained paved highway. We've stayed here several times, in all seasons, while looking for a retirement home to purchase. The backyard is securely fenced and huge (almost an acre) - great for our dogs. A wheelchair ramp descends from the rear porch (where the grill is located) to the back yard. We frequently cooked hot-dogs over a fire in the backyard, which was well-manicured and attractive - comfortable outdoor furniture. The house was always neat and clean - no carpets - easy to maintain. Everything always worked well. The in-wall air-conditioning unit kept the house as cool as we wanted, so we didn't need to use the second (portable) air-conditioning unit. The furnace worked great in the winter (no odor or fumes). The owner, Debbie, was gracious and accommodating. For example, she picked up flowers I had ordered for my wife and had them on the dining table before our arrival on Mother's day, and loaned us a cell-phone that got better service than ours (Verizon is the carrier that works best at this location). There is a municipal park/picnic area on the French Broad River about 1/2 mile down the street from the house -- good for dog walks -- and several State parks are within an easy drive. (There is a little known "back-entrance" to Gorges State Park near Rosman, on Frozen Creek Rd, which has a great trail for biking. hiking or dog-walks and few visitors at that location.) Bikes and tubes are provided for those who want them. Rosman, where the house is located, has very little in the way of amenities, but there is a small IGA grocery store just three blocks from the house. Brevard is an easy drive though, where you can find all the entertainment/restaurants/bakeries/shots, etc. that you would want.
My 16 year old son and two dogs had to evacuate from Hilton Head Island because of Hurricane Matthew. My husband, a firefighter, had to stay behind. Due to the extreme damage on the island, we had to be away longer than expected and one small hotel room was NOT working. I was so fortunate to find this little gem of a home. It was one of the cleanest rentals I have ever been in and the large fenced-in backyard was exactly what we needed. Debra couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating and really helped me through such an incredibly stressful time! We have been vacationing in the NC mountains for many years and would certainly consider staying here again...hopefully under better circumstances!
We got in late Friday eve after local H.S. football game. It was very dark and we needed our
flashlight to see the address. The keys were easily found and we got in with no problems.
The house itself was roomy and comfortable wit an extra large fenced in back yard; great
for pets like our dog. Large roomy fridge and user friendly kitchen and utensils. The bed
we slept in was decent and extra pillows were a plus. It's an easy drive to Brevard or up the
Mountain to Balsam Grove and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
We had a great visit with my 4 granddaughters and their friends as well as my son.
All in all it was a pleasurable experience.

Mrs. Debra was very welcoming and nice. She provided us with very valuable information that was very beneficial to us. This house was very spacious, quiet, and comfortable. I will definitely be back and hope to get this property again. I recommend this property. I will definitely refer my friends and family when they look to visit this location. We really enjoyed and loved it. I also want to thank Mrs. Debra for accommodating us at the very last minute. Mrs. Debra was definitely a blessing!!. We were impressed!! Thais was our very first trip to the mountains and we will definitely be back!!
The home was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. The owner was very responsive to questions. We will be back soon. We highly recommend this property.
Debbie made our stay comfortable and peaceful. The house was clean ,had everything we need to start our stay off with. If you are looking for a place I would suggest very strongly to pick A Stone Throw. The back yard is so beautiful you will enjoy the birds the flowers and small town life
Escape to A Stone’s Throw, the peaceful and comfortable home you can use as your base of operations while you experience all that Transylvania County, NC has to offer. Located midway between Brevard and Lake Toxaway, you are almost in the center of the county. The vacation home is just “a stone’s throw” away from all the outdoor activities that are offered. Three bedrooms and one bath, this older home offers cleanliness and comfort and has just recently been updated.
Situated on almost an acre of fenced in yard, there is ample parking for your boat or RV, a couple of outbuildings and a carport to store your mountain bikes or kayaks. Your children or pet will enjoy being able to play in the huge fenced-in yard. Along with lots of shade, the yard also offers a gas barbecue grill, picnic table, outdoor dining table and chairs, a fire pit and a waterfall feature to enjoy after you are through exploring the area.
Enjoy your morning coffee on the large front porch and wave to the friendly townspeople as they pass by. Sit in one of the rockers and just rest or take a break in the porch swing.
So far our guests tell us they love the ambience of the small town, the well-equipped kitchen, the wireless high speed internet, the 42” flat screen television with satellite, the cleanliness and coziness of the home. After a day of hiking, kayaking or looking at one of the county’s 250 waterfalls, you can relax with the well-stocked inventory of books to read, DVD and VCR movies, games and puzzles. A Stone’s Throw is a dream for those with pets and children.
A Stone’s Throw is handicap accessible with a ramp at the back of the home. The doors are 36” wide and there is a grab bar in the bathroom. The floors are all hardwood and the front porch is accessible from inside the home with a ramp.
The French Broad River is approximately 250’ from the front door of the house across the school’s practice field. The headwaters of the river are a mile upstream; but Champion Park in Rosman is where most people access the river with their kayaks, canoes and tubes. A Stone’s Throw is within walking distance of Champion Park, the grocery store, the post office, the town’s swimming pool and a few charming stores.
Experience your vacation in the small mountain town of Rosman, North Carolina, located 8 miles west of Brevard, the county seat. Rosman is half way between Lake Toxaway and Brevard. A little known surprise for most people, Rosman is a small town with a big heart. The population is only 586 and the town has two stoplights.
