About Bob

A long-time DC and Hill resident, recently retired, about to take time out and travel. Can't part with my DC home but willing to share it with guests so they can appreciate the Hill as I do. Ask me about my favorite places ...besides the 'Must See's'. The Peacock Room, Yard's Park, 8th & I, The Gargoyle Tour at the National Cathedral ...

Bob purchased this townhome in 2001

Why Bob chose District of Columbia (Washington DC)

This is a 'newer' property, built in the 60's (that would be the 1960's not 1860's with great design bones. For me it was all about the location but walking in and seeing the sun streaming thru the east facing French doors to the back garden... I was hooked at first sight.

What makes this townhome unique

Can not possibly be a more convenient location. An easy walk down 'The Hill' (and Metro back UP) to spend the day at the museums and sights. Visit at the Nations Capitol and all the world class museums then return back to a village setting with restaurants and small town convenience.

Such a great neighborhood, Eastern Market for old fashioned Merchant Stall shopping (Butcher, Bakery, Cheese Monger, Seafood, Pasta vendor, Vegetables), an Organic Supermarket 2 blocks South ('Yes' Organics). Walk to either of 2 artisan coffee shops or a Starbucks or even a Dunkin Donuts a block away. The true 'Heart' of our community is the weekly Arts/Crafts and Farmers Market on Sat & Sun. Everyone at least walks thru the stalls to see what the world has on offering and to catch up with the neighbors over coffee and fresh donuts or the famous Blueberry Pancakes at the Market Lunch in Eastern Market.. be adventurous.. try the Scrapple!

There are over 2 dozen places to eat on the blocks of Pennsylvania Ave and on Barracks Row, Gastro Pubs, Sports Bars, Restaurants, Oyster Houses, gelatto, cupcakes, sidewalk cafe, rooftop beer gardens you won't be able to sample them all in one visit. But best of all, every time you come 'Home' you get to see the Capitol Dome just a few blocks away letting you know you are truly in DC.

Minutes from both local and National landmarks. Base your visit in a warm and vibrant neighborhood location yet be only a few minutes walk to the Capitol and the National Mall. There are numerous grocery stores, restaurants and shopping within walking distance. The area is indeed a 'Walkers Paradise" and even has two racks of bright red CitiBike public bicycles a block from the door. This is a comfortable and well-appointed family friendly historic house that even has a back patio and grill.

Love the house and location

  • 5 of 5

This is our first time to enjoy D.C. Since without a rental car, the house is just a block from metro station and eastern market. We are very enjoy the convenient to explore the neighborhood. The house is clean and the kitchen is well stock. It is just comfy after a long day from museums. Highly recommended.

Family loved it. Great location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in DC and this property only added to the experience. After long days of sight seeing it was a wonderful place to end our days and relax (and get alone time if we needed it!). The location was AWESOME. The 1/2 block walk to the Metro station was pleasant and felt completely safe, even coming home at 11pm. One of the days we even walked to the National Mall, again, great location. Great neighborhood with plenty of eating options. Plenty of room (and bathrooms) for my wife and I and kids (9,13 and 15). Bob was quick to answer any messages and was very accommodating. We would stay here again without hesitation. No negatives whatsoever, even the construction across the street was never an issue. Simply wonderful, thank you Bob!

Location! Location! Location!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five -- youngest being 14 -- stayed in this comfortable townhouse for a week in late May. It was a great choice since we flew into Washington, DC and didn't want to rent the car for the rest of our trip until the end of the DC portion. We took the Metro from Reagan National and used it every day to go everywhere. Bob is an excellent host, and we appreciated the well-equipped kitchen (including coffee, spices and some condiments) as well as all the maps and tourist information. Bob was a text away for any questions we had. The townhouse is located on the same street as a fire station, so there is some noise associated with the trucks leaving on calls, but I was only awakened a few times (my husband and I were in the bedroom facing the street and I sleep lightly; no one else in the family noticed). It is an urban, somewhat transitional area, but we used common sense and had no safety issues or concerns as we came and went. Typically we were in for the night by 11 p.m. My young adult kids rode the metro at 5 a.m. one morning to the National Mall to take sunrise photographs. There is a CVS drugstore near the Eastern Market Metro stop, which was handy for an unexpected prescription we had to fill, and there is a nice Harris Teeter grocery store an easy half-mile walk away. Bob provides a few reusable tote bags, and those plus a backpack allowed us to only make two trips to the grocery store all week. We eat in to cut costs while traveling when we can, and this trip was no exception. We loved visiting Eastern Market (fresh fruit and veggies!) on Saturday morning as well as attending the Memorial Day concert in front of the Capitol. We called this trip "Memorials, Monuments & Museums" and this townhouse was the perfect location to easily enjoy all of that. Our favorites were Arlington House (part of Arlington National Cemetery), the WWII, FDR and Jefferson memorials, the National Museum of American History, the National Gallery of Art and the National Portrait Gallery. I would recommend this home to anyone who wants to get the most out of a trip to D.C.

Perfect housing for our 3 musicians

  • 5 of 5

Beatiful home. Comfortable. Spaceous enough for our 3 guests. They enjoyed staying here very much. The house is about a half mile from our theater, but the walk was pleasurable during this part of the spring. Robert was a gracious host. He answered questions in a timely manner and provided all of the necessary information about the house for me to pass along to our guests. We will definitely use this property in the future.
