There is a hang-gliding launch location in the park. Mt. Magazine is known for its butterflies, birds, wildlife, and wildflowers. A coal miners' memorial and a historic museum are located in Paris. Van Buren ( one hour drive) is a Victorian town with many antique shops. The Arkansas and Missouri Railroad offers excursions to points north. Fort Smith (one hour) is a historic frontier city, and the U.S. Marshals' Museum is a don't-miss destination. The Arkansas wine country is around Altus (about 35 min.), with four wineries offering tours and tastings, and one (Wiederkehrs) offering a German restaurant. Cowie Wine Cellars in Paris also offers tastings, and has a bell tower with a full set of bells and a wine museum. The Mulberry River (about 40 min.) is popular for rafting and canoeing. Farther afield, the Crystal Bridges Art Museum in Bentonville (about 2-1/2 hour) is a destination for travelers from all over the world.
