Waterfront Cottage - Lake Ontario - Near Pulaski - 3BR, 2 BA, private dock

Bedrooms 3
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

3 BR 2 Bath, sleeps 8. Waterfront on Sandy Pond, a large bay off Lake Ontario

This waterfront family summer home is located at Seber Shores on Sandy Pond, a large bay off Lake Ontario in northern Oswego County, New York. Three bedrooms, large living room, two full baths, fully-equipped kitchen, screen porch, dock, good water, glorious sunsets, and the largest lawn on the Shore. A canoe and row boat are included for your enjoyment. The house is comfortably and attractively furnished, and includes a large-screen TV, DVD player, piano, and decent stereo; wi-fi and cable.

The master bedroom has a superb king-sized bed and its own (full) bath (with tub and shower). There are two other bedrooms, one with an excellent queen-sized bed and the other with twin beds. There’s a queen-sized pull-out couch in the living room for additional sleeping facilities (and the screen porch can accommodate those who prefer al fresco sleeping).

The cottage is convenient to three State Parks on Lake Ontario, with sandy beaches, and several golf courses. The Pond boasts good fishing for pike, bass and panfish (you can fish off the front lawn if you’d like), and of course Lake Ontario is famous for salmon, lake trout and brown trout. (No guarantees from the Management!) You’re only a few miles from the mouth of the Salmon River, known for (you guessed it!) salmon, and just a bit further north is Henderson Harbor, “home of the black bass.” (There are many licensed charter captains nearby to take you “big water” fishing.) The canoe and row boat are ideal for exploring “Little Sandy Creek,” the mouth of which is right out front. Several of the nearby marinas often can accommodate larger boats with short-term slip rentals. Sandy Pond is ideal for small-boat sailing, so if you have a sailboat be sure to bring it.

The nearby villages of Pulaski and Sandy Creek can supply all day-to-day shopping needs, and for more extensive “mall” shopping (and entertainments) Watertown is only about a half-hour away (either by I-81 or Route 3, known for decades as the “scenic highway”).

The cottage is available for rentals from May through October. Rentals are typically by the week. Summer rentals start and end on Sunday . Longer or shorter stays (3-night minimum) will happily be accommodated in the spring and fall.

Cozy getaway

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed my stay on North Pond (with inlet to Ontario). Nice cozy atmosphere, small neighborhood of water front homes. Plenty of room for croquet or volleyball and a great view of the lake from the screened in porch. Took full advantage of the little fire ring by the water every evening.

Quaint little cottage by the lake

  • 5 of 5

Probably the most relaxing vacation we have ever had as a family. The views from the living room were picture perfect. Best weather all week too! I will miss waking up to a cup of coffee on the porch with the view of the water and the breeze. Neal gave us all the information we needed and the neighbors were so friendly and helpful! I hope to make it an annual trip!!!

Great little vacation house

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect and what a wonderful view! The "pond" was a little hard on us as we had no experience with that much under water growth and had to keep cleaning out the engines on our boat. Other than that a great time. Caught lots of fish right from shore (perch, blue gill, sun fish and two really large bass) too. Had a great charter experience for King Salmon from Fish On charters. Also a huge thank you to the caretaker, Dave. He is full of tons of tips and knowledge, we enjoyed him immensely.

Tranquil Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Spent a week at Chamberlain Cottage in the last week of September and really enjoyed it. Was looking for something serene and this was the perfect spot. The cottage has a very relaxing, homey feel to it. Though the immediate area/camp is not as isolated as I thought it would be, there is still plenty of space and privacy in both the front and back. Sitting in the plastic (but super comfy) chairs on the screened-in porch while looking out on the water is about as good as it gets for me; sat there with my Kindle and my dog laying down next to me, and the chilly breeze put us both right to sleep in no time. The sunrise/sunset view from the backyard is amazing.

If you're from a big city like me, you'll probably find the town very quaint and charming, but it still has everything you need to get you through the week, all within 10-15 minutes driving distance. We mostly spent our days at the beaches/state parks/wildlife areas close by (which were nearly empty this time of year). I had been looking forward to taking the canoe out on the lake right behind the house and fishing, but the water level in early Fall is apparently extremely low there at this time of year, and so we had to scrap that (it would have been possible but a bit of a hassle for a non-outdoorsman like myself) - there are still plenty of places nearby to do major fishing if that's your thing.

As far as cons go, if you're picky I guess you could say the following: The water pressure isn't great in certain places in the cottage (esp. kitchen sink and master bathroom toilet); the towels were a bit old-looking but clean; the microwave is super old school with a bit of a rust-ring under the rotating bottom. So long as you're not expecting the Hilton or used to your butler shining your appliances, you'll be fine.

The owner is very responsive to emails before your trip, usually responded to my emails within a couple of hours at most. And once you are in the cottage, the caretaker lives two houses down and is readily available and helpful when you need him. I would definitely recommend staying here - it was a five-hour drive each way for me, and it was totally worth it.

Owner's Response: Hi James Thanks for sending in your review. My mother's ancient microwave was on the list for upgrading this fall. We have created a nifty little cubby hole between the refrigerator and counter and placed a new microwave there. This also cleared up that 2 feet of counter space. We raised the toaster up on the wall and recovered that counter as well. The water pressure has been an issue ever since the municipal water was put in a year ago. We will be addressing that in the spring. I agree September as well as May are wonderful quiet times at the pond.
