About the property

Private Suite in quiet neighborhood walking distance to sugar which beach.

This suite is a beautiful alternative to a hotel stay. It was created from my love of cottages/farmhouse living and life by the water. It is located in the Mermaid Cottage, situated in a quiet neighborhood that sits just a walk or bike ride to our sugar white beach.

With greenspace, a private parking area, and exclusive use of the backyard, patio and porch areas, while attached to the main part of the cottage, this suite feels like it's located in an Inn or B&B but without having to share space.

While being waterfront is wonderful, it is an entirely different world when you stay just a block or two off our main highway yet still walking distance or a bike ride to the sugar white sandy beaches. Wake up to birds and green out of every window.

The Coastal Farmhouse suite has large bath, his/her sinks, walk in closet, tub and shower. The Kitchenette comes with a small refridgerator, coffee maker, microwave, plates, cups, glasses & utensils. Off your room there is a screened in porch with large refridgerator and cozy furniture. The porch leads to an outdoor patio with table/chairs and umbrella, cold shower, prep sink and barbeque. Two Beach Cruiser Bikes are onsite for your use.

If you want to retreat away from the crowds but still be close to our market, restaurants and beaches, this is the perfect suite for your stay. Room for boat and onsite parking directly in front of your suite.

Mexico beach is so perfectly situated as a place to just come and hang out, or to venture out. You can visit the historical fishing village of Apalachicola (and try "Tamara's Cafe or Tapas bar" "Up the Creek" for fish tacos and Bloody Mary's)..., the downtown shopping of Port St Joe (and awesome restaurants, including "Peppers", "Provisions" and "Jo Mama's")...Horseback ride out at the Cape and finish your day at the "Indian Pass Raw Bar"... or travel up to Seaside for a totally different flavor and shopping. Best of all, just stay put and fish, look for shells, start your morning on the back porch. Grab a bite at Killer Seafood (written up in magazines-love the fish tacos!) or sit and watch the sunset at Toucan's from the deck or balcony while sipping a drink. You will feel like you are a world away...

Thank you for viewing my listing. It would be my pleasure to host your stay...! dana

About dana palmer

I was a photographer for 25 years and settled in Mexico Beach where I enjoyed such a blessed life. It brings me great pleasure to share my home and sweet & slow coastal lifestyle with others. My home is your home.

dana palmer purchased this studio in 2004

Why dana palmer chose Florida Main North West

I am a born and raised Southern Californian. I always gravitate to water. What we experience in Mexico Beach reminded me of how I grew up. Everything was just slower- sweeter. I fell in love with the lifestyle and the southern flavor. Old Florida is so unique. My cottage has been with me for 15 years. She never lets go of me- no matter where else life tried to take me or thru trying times. I know now that I was meant to have her so that I can share her with the dear guests that come to stay. I believe that a vacation should be like the movie "On Golden Pond" except with wi-fi and a flat screen (lol). Life should be able to simplify and slow down. My cottage is sort of perfectly imperfect. I hope that she just feels like "home" to you immediately. It is always my sincere pleasure to host guests. I am a homebody, so you may see me around the cottage tending to gardens and such, but I always respect the privacy of my guests.

What makes this studio unique

While the water is always my passion- sometimes I need to retreat away from crowds and cars during tourist season and have the serenity of a home close enough, but a little ways off the beaten path. I love my neighbors. All the light is so peaceful in this space. I love to ride my bike around the neighborhood, sipping my morning coffee on the front porch and a glass of wine at the end of the day. My guests have the same opportunity, with 2 bike cruisers on site, a screened in back porch and outdoor patio space, exclusively for their use.

I have complimentary wi-fi, Netflix, Amazon and Sling TV. There are books to read, chess, checkers, cards and Monopoly.

You can sit in the garden, take a shower outside, and enjoy a little slower pace at The Coastal Farmhouse Suite. I invite you to be my guest... dana

Beautiful home with amazing hospitality

  • 5 of 5

I went to the cottage with a friend last year and brought my family this year because I loved it so much! I love the community of Mexico Beach. It's quiet and calm but has delicious food! My husband caught tons of fish off the shore at crooked island. I love the cottage, how it's set up and the quiet neighborhood. Within the first 5 mins of being there my son found the crayons and paper. There's just so many little touches that are all extremely useful too! Dana went far out of her way to help us and we are so grateful! I can't wait to go back!

This was our third stay with Dana and every stay is wonderful! She always makes our time in Mexico Beach special. Over time she has become our friend and not just the "owner". We would stay with her again in a always, thanks for the hospitality Dana!

Adorable and comfortable cottage!!

  • 5 of 5

We had the best time during our recent stay at Mermaid Cottage! The cottage is decorated beautifully and set up very efficiently. We enjoyed all of the little extra provided by the owner. She is gracious and hospitable! We would definitely book this cottage again and recommend to friends.

Tranquil Mermaid Cottage was even better than the pictures show. It is so sweetly decorated and has a great layout. Dana has everything you need for a fun vacation, from cruiser bikes and boogie boards to an outdoor shower and the perfect setting for reading books or playing board games. Even as we were packing up to leave, I was still noticing new details. There's nothing I would wish for to make it better, and I left with tons of ideas for decorating my own home. I highly recommend this home.
