Private Suite in quiet neighborhood walking distance to sugar which beach.
A SMALL FOOTPRINT WITH A BIG HEART.
This Coastal Farmhouse Suite is a beautiful alternative to a hotel stay. It was created from my love of cottages/farmhouse living and life by the water. It is located in the Mermaid Cottage, situated in a quiet neighborhood that sits just a walk or bike ride to our sugar white beaches.
Your suite will remind you of a room at an Inn or B&B, but with more private dedicated space. There is a double shared door between the main part of the cottage and the suite, but it has it's private entrance, private parking area, and exclusive use of the backyard, patio and porch areas. My critters and I sleep on the opposite side of the cottage and rise early to go to the dogpark so our guests can sleep in (most always) without a sound. Respecting my guests' privacy is always my priority, but it is a literal joy for us to have guests under our roof and hear activity in and about the property.
The suite is furnished with a King Bed, large bath, his/her sinks, walk in closet, tub and shower. The Kitchenette comes with a small refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave, plates, cups, glasses & utensils. Off your room there is a screened in porch with large refrigerator and cozy furniture. The porch leads to an outdoor patio with table/chairs and umbrella, cold shower, prep sink and barbeque. Two Beach Cruiser Bikes are onsite for your use.
If you want to retreat away from the crowds but still be close to our market, restaurants and beaches, this is the perfect suite for your stay. Room for boat and onsite parking directly in front of your suite.
Mexico beach is so perfectly situated as a place to just come and hang out, or to venture out. You can visit the historical fishing village of Apalachicola (and try "Tamara's Cafe or Tapas bar" "Up the Creek" for fish tacos and Bloody Mary's)..., the downtown shopping of Port St Joe (and awesome restaurants, including "Peppers", "Provisions" and "Jo Mama's")...Horseback ride out at the Cape and finish your day at the "Indian Pass Raw Bar"... or travel up to Seaside for a totally different flavor and shopping. Best of all, just stay put and fish, look for shells, start your morning on the back porch. Grab a bite at Killer Seafood (written up in magazines-love the fish tacos!) or sit and watch the sunset at Toucan's from the deck or balcony while sipping a drink. You will feel like you are a world away...
Thank you for viewing my listing. It would be my pleasure to host your stay...! dana

About dana palmer
I was a photographer for 25 years and settled in Mexico Beach where I enjoyed such a blessed life. It brings me great pleasure to share my home and sweet & slow coastal lifestyle with others. My home is your home.
dana palmer purchased this Studio in 2004
Why dana palmer chose Mexico Beach
I am a born and raised Southern Californian. I always gravitate to water. What we experience in Mexico Beach reminded me of how I grew up. Everything was just slower- sweeter. I fell in love with the lifestyle and the southern flavor. Old Florida is so unique. My cottage has been with me for 15 years. She never lets go of me- no matter where else life tried to take me or thru trying times. I know now that I was meant to have her so that I can share her with the dear guests that come to stay. I believe that a vacation should be like the movie "On Golden Pond" except with wi-fi and a flat screen (lol). Life should be able to simplify and slow down. My cottage is sort of perfectly imperfect. I hope that she just feels like "home" to you immediately. It is always my sincere pleasure to host guests. I am a homebody, so you may see me around the cottage tending to gardens and such, but I always respect the privacy of my guests.
What makes this Studio unique
While the water is always my passion- sometimes I need to retreat away from crowds and cars during tourist season and have the serenity of a home close enough, but a little ways off the beaten path. I love my neighbors. All the light is so peaceful in this space. I love to ride my bike around the neighborhood, sipping my morning coffee on the front porch and a glass of wine at the end of the day. My guests have the same opportunity, with 2 bike cruisers on site, a screened in back porch and outdoor patio space, exclusively for their use. I have complimentary wi-fi, Netflix, Amazon and Sling TV. There are books to read, chess, checkers, cards and Monopoly. You can sit in the garden, take a shower outside, and enjoy a little slower pace at The Coastal Farmhouse Suite. I invite you to be my guest... dana

A wonderful week!!!
A unique location with a very special host. Dana has thought of everything to make her guests feel comfortable and special. This was our second experience with HomeAway, altho we have travelled all over the world, independently and with tours. We were not disappointed! We had plenty of creature comforts at the suite, plenty of privacy and and plenty to do in the area. We will definitely come back and we won't forget our stay on the "Forgotten Coast".
The coastal farmhouse was a great place to stay. Very relaxing and quaint. Dana provided everything we needed and more!
Great host. Lovely, quiet location. Easy walk to the beach. Well furnished and comfortable.
We have stayed a few times before and it is always a great experience.
A Beautiful Stay For Quiet Access to Natural Areas
A cozy beautiful room in a nice old house in a smaller town in the less developed part of the Florida Panhandle. The room is 5 or 6 quiet walkable blocks to the beach. Several different large protected natural areas within 20ish miles, and some much closer. The host Dana is wonderful, and we didn't want for anything.
Thank you so much for such a sweet review... I loved meeting you both and hosting your stay! My fondness for older homes caused me to add vintage mantles and touches to make the cottage feel like it has history, but it's actually only 20 years old! It's a huge compliment that it feels authentic...So glad you enjoyed your stay...dana
Our stay at the Farmhouse was very pleasant. Our provider was very accommodating.
The room was lovely, the owner took great care in meeting all the needs one would have at their home. She even went so far as to add a cable provider for us so we could watch our favorite college football team. We did not find anything wrong with the small town of Mexico Beach just not enough to do. As far as activities there were no golf courses no shopping, and very limited restaurants. But if you are looking to stay on the beach and play in the ocean then this is the place for you . The beach was extremely easy to access with lots of places to stop and get out and park. With the time of year we visited the area it was, what is called off season, Traffic was moderate,I could see where this could be somewhat congested for the open active season. That said the road through town is a two lanes highway going along the coarse with a beautiful view.
Would we go back? Most likely not, However I do recommend the visit for the more laid back vacationers. Our visit was to see if this would be a place for us to move, and while it offers you a beautiful location there just is not enough activity for our life style. Thank you so much for our stay.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such an in depth review! I am glad you felt comfortable in the suite. And I completely understand that you are looking for your next "home", which sometimes can mean different criteria than a vacation, where you come to "un-plug". Mexico Beach is small, and not for everyone. But there is so much to see and experience all directions if you choose. For those propspective guests who may read this, I just want to mention that the next little town down (20 miles) does have a small golf course, and there are 2 great courses within an hour drive. Our traffic does increase in summer, but still we have no traffic lights, so compared to other beach towns it's rather minimal. I thank you again for taking time to share your thoughts...and I wish you both the best in locating the perfect next "home"... dana
Cozy and Comfortable
The Farmhouse Suite was everything we wanted and more! Dana thought of everything and was the perfect hostess. We loved the solitude and quiet setting where we could relax and unwind. We will most definitely stay here again!
Thank you!!!! Loved having you : )
