About the property

Permit 2013-184.

The Highland Sage Guest House is located in historic downtown on a sunny corner lot. The home offers an open living and dining room, two bedrooms with queen beds, additional day beds, and historic character throughout. The kitchen is spacious and fully equipped to make a multi-course meal or a simple smoothie. The bathroom includes a restored cast iron tub, and the home is cooled by a swamp cooler, providing for easeful sleep on hot Summer nights.

The backyard offers a patio open to 10th Street with a grill and family-size table. Adjacent to the courtyard is a historic garage providing off-street parking.

When you arrive, you will have a combination to enter the home. I live within a few blocks so will be available to help as much as needed or leave you in privacy per your preference.

In addition to downtown and Main Avenue, the Nature Trail leading to Fort Lewis Collage and panoramic views of Durango is one block away. The Highland Sage Guest House offers an ideal combination of proximity to downtown, historic character, spaciousness, and a front porch and courtyard both facing friendly neighborhood streets.

If you don't see that dates you are looking for please check both of my rentals in historic downtown.

About Victoria Schmitt

I moved to Durango in 2005 and work as a civil engineer for the local county. I am originally from Columbus, Ohio and have since lived in Arizona and Colorado, with some time spent in West Africa and Southeast Asia. In Durango I have been involved with the Durango Dharma Center and the Durango Independent Film Festival.

Outside of work and the vacation rental, I also enjoy biking, camping, reading, and hiking, especially with my 11-year old dogs, Neutron and Kozmo.

Victoria Schmitt purchased this house in 2010

Wonderful Location.

Once again, we stayed at this lovely home with its great location. Great neighbors. We highly recommend it. This is our third visit staying at one of Victoria's homes. She is a fabulous host. Would definitely stay here again. Terry

Very charming and open feeling bungalow! Clean up to date bedding and towels. Kitchen had all we needed.

Loved gathering on the back patio to have our meals. Nice easy stroll to downtown shopping and dining. Hope to return sooner than later! Thank you!

Perfect location and size

  • 5 of 5

My husband, son and I loved staying here while we were in Durango. It was an easy walk to the main shopping (including several grocery stores) and dining area. It was also a good location to explore other towns (Silverton, Ouray,Telluride, Purgatory). We were only a group of 3 but 6 could have stayed here very easily. The beds were very comfortable and towels were plentiful. The washer and dryer were a huge plus when we came back covered in mud from our Polaris tour in Silverton. Victoria was very helpful. Not to be missed: Durango Coffee Company, and Seasons restaurant. Would gladly stay again if I found myself in Durango

Outstanding Stay!

  • 5 of 5

I'm not good at writing reviews and I generally don't like it and generally don't do them. :-) That being said, I would be remiss in not reviewing Highland Sage.

We stayed here for two weeks in June, while working on a friend's home remodel in the country. It was such a nice respite from the hot, dirty work we were doing.

The home was provisioned perfectly. Kitchen, linens, soaps to paper towels! I have rented a few homes over the years and this home, by far, was provisioned the best. Details were NOT overlooked. The only thing I would recommend would be adding a knife sharpener. :-)

Victoria was amazing! We had a few questions during our stay and she was responsive and prompt from answering my random questions to fixing a slight electrical problem. She even helped us watch our favorite baseball team on TV!

I would love to come back to this home and visit again. If Durango pops up on our radar again, we will definately stay here again. Thanks!

Owner's Response: I hope you do stay again. It was my pleasure addressing the things that came up and I am so happy you enjoyed the house. I have added a knife sharpener in the kitchen, so it will be there waiting if you return!
