Overview

About the property

Permit 2013-184.

The Highland Sage Guest House is located in historic downtown on a sunny corner lot. The home offers an open living and dining room, two bedrooms with queen beds, additional day beds, and historic character throughout. The kitchen is spacious and fully equipped to make a multi-course meal or a simple smoothie. The bathroom includes a restored cast iron tub, and the home is cooled by a swamp cooler, providing for easeful sleep on hot Summer nights.

The backyard offers a patio open to 10th Street with a grill and family-size table. Adjacent to the courtyard is a historic garage providing off-street parking.

When you arrive, you will have a combination to enter the home. I live within a few blocks so will be available to help as much as needed or leave you in privacy per your preference.

In addition to downtown and Main Avenue, the Nature Trail leading to Fort Lewis Collage and panoramic views of Durango is one block away. The Highland Sage Guest House offers an ideal combination of proximity to downtown, historic character, spaciousness, and a front porch and courtyard both facing friendly neighborhood streets.

If you don't see that dates you are looking for please check both of my rentals in historic downtown.

About Victoria Schmitt

I moved to Durango in 2005 and work as a civil engineer for the local county. I am originally from Columbus, Ohio and have since lived in Arizona and Colorado, with some time spent in West Africa and Southeast Asia. In Durango I have been involved with the Durango Dharma Center and the Durango Independent Film Festival.

Outside of work and the vacation rental, I also enjoy biking, camping, reading, and hiking, especially with my 11-year old dogs, Neutron and Kozmo.

Beautiful, quiet, and close to downtown

  • 5 of 5

The home is beautiful. A small home on the outskirts of downtown Durango. My husband and I, 3 year old, 1 year old, and grandma and grandpa stayed there comfortably for an extended weekend. They home has very comfortable beds and a very homey feel that really helped our family settle in quickly. We will stay here again when we are in Durango the next time.

Awesome home away from home!

We were only in Durango for the weekend, but this home was exactly what we needed for our short stay. Very cute home in a nice quiet neighborhood within walking distance to downtown Durango! Thank you Victoria for sharing your home with us!

Quiet home near old town.

  • 5 of 5

We loved out stay at the Highland Sage. It was in a quiet and peaceful neighborhood close to scenic walks and old town. The house is so cute and comfortable and provided all the necessities you would want. I would definitely stay here again.

Great location with a friendly, helpful owner

  • 5 of 5

We chose downtown for a Spring Break ski trip and settled on this location based on the number of beds and layout. Could not have been happier with the home, the location and the owner Victoria. I've used short term rentals now for several years and she tops the list as the best. We will definitely be back.

Private but perfect location to everything!

  • 5 of 5

Victoria has done a great job decorating this adorable house! It's comfortable and has a ton of character. We walked to dinner every night and it was only a 20-25 min drive to Purg! Our pups loved it as well. We will definitely be back!

Owner's Response: I'm happy you enjoyed the proximity to Main. It is amazing that being so close to all the activity, it is still so quiet, especially with the snow. Thank you for staying, and look forward to you being back.

Minimum of 5-night rentals may be made at anytime. Two-night rentals are available within 30 days of check-in. Festival weekends may be booked with a minimum 3-night stay or a small increase in nightly rate.

Vehicles must be parked in garage, which is historic and suitable for standard-size vehicles only. Oversized vehicles cannot be accommodated.

Payment is typically made in full at the time of booking for simplicity, but may be split into two with the second half due 30 days prior to arrival.

Cancellation policy is the same regardless of payment schedule, with 75% of the total rental cost refundable when 30 days or more notice is provided. Within 30 days of check-in, no refunds are given. As booking a vacation home is unique from standard hotel lodging with respect to cancellation, trip insurance may be a good investment to cover unforeseen circumstances.
