About Allison Pilitsis
This camp is owned by 4 siblings left to us by our Mom who passed in 1992. We alternate weeks and rent it when it is not committed to a family member. The camp has been left as it was when Mom passed. It's nostalgic, but very comfy. She was a snowbird and came back to Maine in May and left in October. She loved this place as we all do.
Allison Pilitsis purchased this Cottage in 1955
Why Allison Pilitsis chose Rome
This original 1500 feet of beachfront was owned by our grandfather. He built a camp for each of his children (our mom was one of 4). My grandfather was fishing when a sudden storm arose on the lake so he paddled to the closest shore. While waiting for the storm to pass he started exploring. He found some buildings through the woods and up a small hill that were very dilapidated buildings, but had good foundations and thought how this property would make a great family estate and the rest is history. He rebuilt those building into a beautiful home where he held many large garden parties and then built camps back down the hill on the waterfront for his children. Someone outside the family bought all the land and beachfront and chopped it up and sold it off. A sad day for all of us. Unfortunately the only part of this family estate left is our camp. Everyone else moved out of state but all four of us siblings live right here in the area and don't ever want to give up this little piece of heaven. You'll see photos of what grandfather found that day of exploration and then what he turned it in to.
What makes this Cottage unique
This has a sandy beach like no other on this lake. Walk in and keep on walking on sand (not mush) till you go over your head. The sunsets are spectacular. Because dear Grampy built so close to the water, we have a gem of a piece of property because you now can no longer build less than 250 back. So our waterfront property so close to the water is "grandfathered".
